We stayed at this hotel as part of a Tauck tour that included Venice. The location is ideal with it being just a few blocks from San Marco Square and the Rialto Bridge. It was also near many restaurants and stores. The lobby decor was so fun with all of the bright couches and pillows and plenty of seating. The room was a bit small as well as the bathroom, but the water temperature and water pressure were great. The hotel also had a delicious chocolate cake waiting for us in our room upon arrival because it was our 30th wedding anniversary. read more

This is a very nice hotel in the heart of Venice - the location is the best part with easy access to all of the major attractions. The water taxi pulled right up to the front entrance, and the staff was very efficient in helping us in and out of the boat and getting our luggage to our room quickly. The breakfast buffet was very good, and the restaurant has an open air restaurant for al fresco dining. The rooms themselves are a bit dated and smaller, including a very tight shower- The bed was comfortable enough, but nothing extravagant. The water pressure and temperature were wonderful. It was frustrating / confusing figuring out where our room was at times, since our room on the third floor was accessible on some elevators by hitting the level three button, and on other elevators only by hitting the level four button and then walking down a set of stairs. At one point during our stay, to hotel repairmen came to her room telling us that there was a door that they needed to fix, but they never figured out what door it was, and they quickly left... I'm still not sure what that was all about. Overall, a fine experience - I'd probably see if there were other alternatives on my next trip to Venice. read more

Aside from being in a great location near all the great attractions, for the price point, we had a very disappointing stay. For a whopping 2k for 2 nights, our room was so small there was not even space to open our luggage's, unless we put them on the bed. Imagine having to put your luggage that has traveled in the same place that you will be laying. . . Need I say more ? There was nothing "superior" about it. The room looked nothing like the pictures online via expedia so beware of this.Front desk staff said they take no credibility, since we booked through a third party. read more

After being at Rosa Grand Milano, this property has a completely different feel and style. I am in Deluxe Double Room. It's clean however my room is dark with the heavy drapes. Staff outstanding-professional-greeting me when they see me. It's a different experience to come to the front door in a Gondola. We booked here for one night as part of our recent little 3 city tour of Italy and France. This hotel was fantastic and really added to our overall stay and time in Venice being so fun and memorable! (+)Splendid Venice is located in a prime area of Venice. You are literally less than a 5 minute walk to St. Marks Square and ton of other tourist attractions! Since you are staying on the Grand Canal you can open your window and get the most incredible views! Also, tons of food and shopping in just a moments walk! Just go outside the door, pick a direction and start exploring! It's so much fun to do in Venice! (+) Room was spacious and elegant. Plenty of room with great features throughout the room! The personalized handwritten welcome letter and box of chocolates waiting in the room was a nice touch as well! (+) the room came with a "buddy" iPhone with maps and directions to everything i the city and also had free international calling included as well! Wow! This alone enhanced our time here in Venice greatly! (+) Front Desk let us have a free early check in at 11 am! This was greatly appreciated after taking the train from Florence, it was nice to shower and change before diving into Venice! (+) Service was like 85% outstanding. Most people were very friendly and helpful. Most. Bellman were especially helpful. (-) Quite pricey, but totally worth indulging yourself if you can swing it. (-) Front desk not only gave us bad directions a couple of times in the early going(before using the buddy phone), but their advice was WAY off and it was hard to understand where a true mix up could have occurred. (-) just CNN and BBC for any English speaking channels. Not a huge deal for me, but it would have been nice to have like 6-8 basic options in English. I really enjoyed our stay at the Splendid Venice, but something is just keeping it short of a 5 star. It is really, really close though. But at this price point, you expect big things. Amazing hotel in a great spot of Venice! It is between Rialto and San Marco, which was great. It was very classy with refined touches everywhere. The service was excellent - very professional staff (a little stiff for our relaxed family) who took excellent care of us. The rooms were nice - they were able to get us 2 sets of rooms that shared a common entryway, which was nice for our large family. The rooms were spotless and had all the comforts. The entire place had an elegance and class to it that felt luxurious. The breakfast has many options of pastries, fruit, meats/cheeses/bread, and eggs/bacon, as well as juices, coffee, and hot chocolate. The breakfast room was beautiful, too, with a huge skylight. So... a little disappointed for the price and star rating of this hotel. My husband and I toured 4 cities in Italy this summer. Venice was our last stop. The man at the front desk was not welcoming or nice. Every other hotel was helpful and kind from the second we walked in. We left our bags there to explore while our room was getting ready and he could not have made us feel more awkward. No guidance on where to go or what to see. "See ya at 2" ok.... We ordered room service on our last night and again, for this high rated hotel/restaurant... Severely disappointed. $16 for seasonal vegetable soup which was warm water and cut up carrots and green beans..... No seasoning. Empty bottle of balsamic with the stale bread. Really disappointing because Venice is such a beautiful city. Our room was beautiful and bathrooms are gorgeous, other parts just weren't up to par. read more

Absolutely amazing experience, one of the best of our lives! Above and beyond! Splendid Venice was recommended through Costco Travel and they did not disappoint. Upon arrival they were very welcoming with prompt service and accepted Visa credit card for incidentals. Then when we arrived in our room there was a complimentary bottle of champagne, treats, a gift to commemorate our stay (Asgard scarf) and a handwritten note congratulating us on our Engagement! What an amazing way to begin your stay! WOW! If you have a special purpose for your visit, either let them know at booming or call ahead to update your reservation. It made us feel truly special. The room was fantastic, clean and with a great layout. The bed was comfortable with clean and refreshed sheets. They even have an awesome service where you can select your favorite pillows! So fun! Each day when they cleaned the room they would leave two fresh heart shaped chocolates and two pairs of fresh slippers at the edge of the bed ready for your bedtime. They do not have an iron, as most do not in Italy, so be prepared to wear wrinkle free clothing. If you do want your clothes ironed they offer the service however it will be fairly pricey. The view from the room was fantastic with a view of the canal and bridge. The best view is by far the rooftop! Along with the view they have fresh beverages available for self serve for you to enjoy while you relax. The morning breakfast was consistently superb, great selection with friendly and helpful staff. Also, definitely check out the hotel bar where you will receive a discount on drinks and also complimentary finger food / snacks also great for a pre-dinner appetizer. If you need directions, recommendations on where to go or reservations don't hesitate to contact the concierge. Great English and very helpful. The location was ideal for us, just a short walk to St. Marks square and Rialto Bridge with countless desirable places within a short walking distance. Starhotels Splendid was our favorite hotel (out of three) during our vacation in Italy. Although it is a little confusing to get to through the maze of streets in Venice, it ended up pretty centrally located to the things that we wanted to do. This hotel is modern and stylish, and the check in staff were very friendly. We were placed in a nice junior suite, so there was plenty of room for the two of us. The room itself was elegant, with a very large and nice bathroom. Our room rate included breakfast, which we took advantage of during our stay. Two tiny drawers in closet, under safe, to put things away in like socks and panties. Not enough drawers. Good food, bar, roof bar. Eat breakfast outside in the hotel court yard. BUT...we asked a male receptionist about a restaurant we found on Yelp for dinner close by with good reviews. He made a bad face and INSISTED we try an authentic, non tourist trap place. But that's exactly what it was, just not on the main road. It was a terrible, expensive mistake. Trattoria Alla Scala...HORRIBLE TOURIST TRAP OFF THE BEATEN PATH. "It's at the end of an alley, very authentic", HA! He had a colleague come get us and walk us over. Very fishy. It was so bright and the bread was cardboard. Don't make our mistake, avoid a $100 RIP OFF! Seriously, go to any other place. Very disappointing food, service was confused, it was clean, BUT very over priced for nothing special, quite the opposite. Bland boring, rip off! Thought everyone at this hotel should know to talk to the concierge not a male receptionist at the check desk ever recommend a restaurant. If Star Hotels doesn't know their staff does this they should. Not good business ethics to put another business down and sent your guests to a really bad place. Avoid. Poor service because this hotel is over run by cruise line people coming through. Concierge was nice but expect a long queue. Front desk staff knows how to smile but do not care. Phone from room does not work. I report and they say oh. Do not ask for room. I received bad directions from station and report. And they say ok. We have been in Italy for three weeks. Great hotel and meals all over. Except here. It's Italy so expect to wait. But this is just a poorly run hotel. It's a mob scene and you are just a number. read more

Okay Yelpers, here's the scoop on the Splendid. This is about 4 old buildings in Venice hooked to get and converted in to a great hotel. Tiny elevators, lots of weird staircases and turns, and sometimes going downstairs to get to upper rooms. Definitely a great place to stay as it is located between St. Marco's square and the Rialto bridge. Tons of shops, restaurants (touristy and local) and a short walk from everything. *Don't take water taxis. $75 to the train station OR you can walk about 6 minutes and take the public water bus for a few Euro (I recommend the unlimited pass. 72 hours was about $30 Euro and we rode the thing everywhere.) *Breakfast is served and fantastic. Enjoy it and save a few bucks before hitting the sites. * Dress wrinkle-free. Italy is scared of irons and you won't find one in your room. You can pay for the service but it isn't cheap. *Make it a point to have morning coffee on the rooftop. It opens at 9am and has a real cool view. Trust me. *Bring travel plug converters. There is no US plug in the place. This is a great hotel that I would recommend to anyone! read more

I'll keep this short and sweet. The Splendid Venice Starhotel is a lovely little spot nestled in between Rialto bridge and Saint Mark's square. The facilities are very nice, the staff are friendly, though the decor goes a little overboard to remind you that you're in Venice. The breakfast buffet is tasty and we'll stocked. We also liked the large closet in out room where we could store our bags and hang clothes, etc. It's rather large and spacious and has spoiled us for other hotels. The bathroom is large too. One important note, Venice has mosquitoes and our room did not have working air conditioning. We made the mistake of sleep with the window open and had to battle multiple mosquitoes at 3AM. We were only told about the mosquitoes and the A/C situation after we called the front desk. I would have given 4 stars if not for this issue. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our stay. read more

The fam stayed here during our visit to Venice this summer. We really loved this hotel. Think about coming in on the train from Florence...making our way to the hotel...and being shown to our room. The munchkins were literally jumping for joy at how nice the room was. The room was huge, not just clean, but beautiful. And any of the amenities you'd expect in a very nice hotel. In a city without a lot of AC the room was always suuuuper comfortable. The minibar was a bit steep, so we kept everybody out of it. Anything that I might normally find off-putting, I will chalk up to the unique environment of building and maintaining a hotel in Venice. It wasn't perfect, but pretty darn nice. Pro Tip: If you take the hotel provided "free" tour of the glass factory on Murano Island, be prepared for the hard sell. The glass was beautiful, but nothing moved me enough to want to buy a vase. Also, the hotel provides transportation out there, but be prepared to pay your way back. That was a little skeevy and I wish I had been told on the way out. Pro Tip #2: If you're flying out of Venice get yourself a transfer to the airport if you can. You really don't want to mess around read more

I wouldn't recommend this hotel with the exception of the location and size of the suites/decor, which is a huge plus since it lacks other comforts. There is no a/c and they tell you it's bc they turn it off during this time of year (and fake an apology for it ). If that's that case then take it off of your hotel description as an amenity during that time. I don't care if I'm in Iceland, if I want to refresh a room with a/c for two minutes or two days, it should be an option if I've chosen to pay for it. Other reviews will reveal the same thing. Don't open your windows or you'll be infested with mosquitoes. We have several bites and also marks on the walls/curtains where we've had to smash them and it's bloody! So gross Additionally its very LOUD if you're near the outside walkway. Staff has a subtle flippant vibe in general and who knows maybe it' sucks working for this establishment. read more

I highly recommend this hotel. First reason is the location. It's about a 2-3 minute walk to St. Mark's Square and an 8 minute walk to the Rialto Bridge. Second reason is that the room comes with a free Smartphone to use during your stay. You can take out the Smartphone around Venice and use the GPS/Google Maps to make local calls. The GPS alone was a lifesaver in Venice. You WILL get lost in Venice. Maybe even every time you venture out, so this Handy Smartphone saved us so much time and headache trying to find our way through the maze that is Venezia. Third reason is that the rooms are spacious. If you've traveled around Europe then you're aware that even the 4-5 star hotels are TINY! Our room had a foyer, a spacious bathroom and even a walk-in closet! A walk-in closet is extremely rare in Europe... and to have it in Venice is outrageous! Fourth reason is that the staff is very friendly, courteous, accommodating and English-speaking. Your room gets cleaned twice in some days! And there are fancy boxes of chocolates that the cleaning person will leave in your bed. Fifth reason is the food! If you are able to splurge and add the breakfast buffet to your booking I suggest you do. The buffet is well-stocked with breads, pastries, bacon, eggs, granola, and fruit. Beats having to walk around Venice and fight the crowded tourists for cappuccino and pastries. The food will give you enough energy to explore Venice until lunchtime to mid-afternoon. Sixth reason is how beautiful the hotel is. From the charming facade with their mooring point and the flower beds on their terraces. It is what you imagine Venice would look like. The check-in lobby is in a separate building to avoid overcrowding, and the actual first floor hotel lobby is beautifully decorated like a lounge with many seating areas and long hallways. This is our second stay at a Starhotels (first one was Rome) and they always go above and beyond our expectations. Thank you for a memorable stay in Venice. Best hotel ever. After a rather disappointing stay at another Starhotel in Rome, we took the train up to Venice for our stay at the Splendid and I was thrilled. We had a Deluxe room that was quite large as is the bathroom. Decor is super cute (too purple for my husband lol). Spotlessly clean and housekeeping comes through twice daily. Free bottled water and espresso. Two windows and air conditioning. Staff were all pleasant. Overall very comfortable stay. The included breakfast was nothing spectacular, but still good. PS - do yourself a favor and eat dinner in the restaurant downstairs. Amazing! read more

Do not stay here... horrible service and very rude! No refund even during the coronavirus outbreak. I am an elementary teacher and could not travel to Italy due to my flights being cancelled because of the virus. They were not helpful at all- not even a partial refund! The restaurant was okay, service is VERY slow. We had breakfast there daily. It's basics- eggs, meat etc. I thought it was okay. There is apparently a rooftop bar, but we could never find it (lol) The hotel is in a nook off the canal, it's a really great and convenient location if you are attempting to experience Venice! It is off a popular street, so sometimes you can hear people chatting and having a good time until the wee hours. Nice hotel, in a great location with wonderful service. Conveniently located steps away from San Marco, Rialto bridge and the public water taxi. It's within an old area/building but the hotel looks quite updated within. If you can over look the musty smell here and there (but this is Venice, and most likely everywhere) then this is perfect. We were surprisingly upgraded to a suite which had two adjoining rooms. There is also a nice rooftop area that should be explored. Being in the heart of it all, the area is very busy as there are a number of attractions, stores, restaurants and cafes around. The hotel has it's own dock off the canal should you choose to take a private taxi. Keep in mind, we chose to take the Alilaguna public water taxi from Marco Polo airport (blue line) to San Marco. Believe it or not, it took over 1.5 hours to get there - sort of felt like a boat tour around the island though. The price was €15 one way per person. You can purchase a return ticket for a total of € 27 per person Since we had an early flight out, we chose the private taxi back from the hotel dock to the airport. The price was steep at € 100 but got us to the airport in 15 minutes ! Same dock as the public water taxi. Considering the effort and cost to the hotel and airport, would recommend spending at least 3-4 days in Venice. Free wifi was convenient. Unfortunately, due to jet lag, we missed out on the continental breakfast and left early the next morning. But the dining area looked very nice. Overall, would highly recommend this hotel for all ages. read more

Recommended by a friend from Verona and it did not disappoint! Less than a 5min walk from Rialto Bridge as well as from Piazza San Marco. Lots of good restaurants and shopping near by. It is also accessible by water taxi so makes it very convenient to go to from the train station. The hotel is clean and quite spacious. The front desk staff are very helpful with booking restaurants as well as making recommendations. The hotel rate included breakfast which was decent. The only criticism I had was the thermostat in the room. We were there in December but the room was too warm. We had turned the thermostat down but it did not cool down. We were there just for two nights and it was freezing outside so we just opened up the windows. Overall, it was still great as the location was great. read more

After waiting a lifetime to visit Venice I was nervous about choosing a hotel. I am very happy I chose this hotel. We were in Venice for our honeymoon. The room was fantastic. We had a nice view of the canal below. The room was sharp and the bathroom was comfortable. The staff was very helpful and polite. Another plus for this hotel is the daily breakfast which was provided. It was a nice way to start off the day. Another huge plus is the location. Wow! Another find at Hotel Tonight App. Great location near San Marco and water cab station. Not sure if because we booked through Hotel Tonight we were given a room above the kitchen. It was extremely hot and no air conditioning. When I complained I was told to open windows. Our room was between another building wall and there was no draft coming in. After demanding to be moved, as it was obvious that the heat from kitchen was filtering to the first floor, Room 107. We were than moved to the third floor room 302, with a canal view. The hotel is decor is amazing. The service could be improve. The location was the highlight of the stay at this hotel. The breakfast was very nice. read more
