This review is based on a dinner group that included 17 people. The staff and server did a nice job handling our group. The menu includes many Mexican cuisine regulars and some house specialties that really gives you quite a lot of options. There are multiple margarita choices as well. My Golden margarita on the rocks was sublime and refreshing. I ordered the Mole Poblano Rojo. If you like mole, this shredded chicken steeped in mole served with lettuce. Onion, tomato,guacamole and flour tortillas was great. If you're looking for a good place for a larger group I recommend this establishment. There are some local restaurants who charge a "room fee" or offer a limited menu for groups of 10-20 people that discourage groups from dining at those establishments. Tacos were good. But the service was HORRIBLE. Our server is the WORST I've ever had. She had a horrible attitude, and raised her voice because I couldn't understand her the first time. We walked in tonight and there was no one at the hostess stand. There were 3 people waiting to be seated. A waitress walked past the stand and a didn't acknowledge us standing there as did a young server. When the hostess finally walked up she glanced at us looked at the 3 people waiting, apologized for their wait as she grabbed the menus and walked away to seat them without acknowledging us. A quick I'll be with you in a minute with a smile would have gone a long way. We waited a minute more with no one coming back and decided to go to the Ox where we had the best service and food. It's an early Friday night, friends in from out of town and felt like Mexican food. Casa Real was the place to go, close to house and most nights food is spot on. Tonight was a night of just one drink for each of us, chips and salsa and then Fajitas for two the wife and I, chicken and steak. Our friends had a Quesadilla and a seafood bowl. Food was served almost immediately after ordering by our cheerful waitress. Our friends enjoyed their dinners to complete satisfaction, perhaps my wife too. I personally thought the proteins were overcooked and dry. Along with the side of rice. Not enough to send back but it was there. Overall, not a very busy evening for a Friday night, service was very good but not over the top. Food 3/4 enjoyed it more than me. I've been to Casa Real at least 50 times since it opened, and carried out probably a dozen times. It was our go-to for a good Mexican meal. There are a few items on the menu that are a step above the typical slapped together Mexican meal - I'm talking tinga, my favorite dish here. Since COVID hit many restaurants hard, we really tried to frequent here even more. But our meal last week and the service prompted me to finally write a review for here. Three stars is the max I can give now. Why? Server was downright rude, literally rolled his eyes at me and my 85 year old mother, refused to stop when walking by when my husband said "excuse me" to him. The server said "not now" and walked away. The worst part is that we specifically said no onions on my mother's quesadilla, told the server that she is allergic to them, but her quesadilla still came with onions. Her allergy is not as severe if the onions are cooked, so she picked all of them off. We waited long time for the server to come back so we could send it back, but he didn't come back until he wanted to give us the check. So she finally caved and picked all the onions out of the quesadilla. She had a slight reaction by the time we got home, but it was manageable. She's had this allergy her whole life, so she knows what her limits are. This is not a life threatening allergy, but certainly makes her uncomfortable for a day or two. Food was decent. Served quickly as always. I want to give more stars, but I can't. I used to live for this place, I craved it. We ate there so often that servers recognized us. But it's declined a bit, which is a bummer because it's got the bones for greatness. And now we go to other places in the area for Mexican food. Not authentic Mexican food, think taco shells from a box. The enchilada sauce is tasteless and has an odd flavor. It's not difficult to make Mexican food the right way, but I'm not sure how this place is even in business unless people in Michigan just don't know the difference. read more

I stopped in for a drink and a dessert to go. The Sangria was stale. It tasted horrible. I ordered the Three Milk Cake to go and my bill came and on the menu it was $6.50. I asked the waitress and she said sorry that's an old menu. I said y'all need to update your menu's and she said sorry again. I haven't had the cake yet, but it better be good for almost $10.00 a piece. They never came up to me to see if I wanted anything else another drink so I said well I will just pay my bill. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant. The huge menu, food, beverages and wait staff always make us anxious to return. The building itself is a store-front on M-24 but the inside is furnished and decorated with authentic colorful Mexican tables and chairs. There are several other nearby Mexican restaurants but, as mentioned above, if we want "South of the Border" dining, this is where we go. read more

I placed an order online and paid for it. I went to pick it up and the restaurant was closed. It was a holiday and it never dawned on me to check holiday hours ( 100% my mistake). The next day I called to talk to a manager and I was able to get a refund or I could have them make my order. The manager was very respectful and understanding and the other staff member I talked with was very polite and helpful as well. I decided to get my order made which was the fajita nacho and it was absolutely delicious! It was a take out and when I got home the food was still fresh and hot. My arm hurts from patting myself on the back...... I cannot believe that I have been eating meals here for over 2 years and have not reviewed Casa Real. I am glad I am challenging myself with a review per day in 2018..... ok, I know... I know... I am already behind! That said, I love Casa Real. I have food allergies and have always had a good experience at Casa Real. They are extremely accommodating. I have some relatives that request going here when they come from out of town. Great fajitas. No gimmicks, no fake texmex - just honest food and an extensive menu at reasonable prices for what you get. The best time to go is during the week. Food is just okay. We've been here several times perhaps hoping it was going to get better the next time but it never did. We've had taco's, burritos, chimichangas, Mexican pizza and again, just okay. Their beans were extremely watery and not very good. This is The Inly Mexican restaurant we have ever been to that charges you for their Hot or Green salsa which we agreed to, but it came in one of those small plastic carry out type salsa cups and I swear was nothing more than one of the bottled habanero sauce already on the table. If craving Mexican in Oxford you need to try the Newly opened Apache Mexican Grill down the street, their food blows Casa Real away. Only downside is no cervezas (beer) to go with dinner. Love this place! We have been here many times since first discovering it. Really like their chips and salsa and chimichangas. My son likes the fajitas and my daughter loves their Mexican rice. Just picked up order, which included guacamole, cheese dip, and an 8oz salsa. Noticed they did not give us any chips and asked guy at counter. He said "we don't give those out for free." My wife said, "yes but we ordered 3 different dips that always come with chips." He insisted that they do not (we've ordered from here a few times a month for years and they always have and who would order cheese dip or guacamole with out those?). This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. My family and I have been coming here for at least a decade. The margaritas are the best around! And the food never disappoints either. The servers are always super friendly. I went a few days ago and sat at the bar. I had Bethany as my server and she did a great job of making sure we had plenty to drink and that we were happy with our food. This place just opened. It used to be Juans Hacienda which I frequented in the past. The inside has been redone and now it has booth seating. I would say the food is a step up from the previous establishment. I judge all Mexican restaurants on one dish - FAJITAS. And Casa Real has pretty good ones. Our first visit was very pleasant. The server made the experience really nice. He was super friendly and helpful with recommendations. We began with salsa and guacamole. Both were better than average. The chips were crispy and not too salty, our preference. I had side dishes which ended up being way too much food, but they didn't offer combinations. I had 2 cheese chile rellenos, retried beans and a chicken enchilada. All very tasty, with a good combination of different flavors. Price was reasonable, totaling about $11. My husband had chicken and shrimp fajitas with grilled veggies. He really enjoyed it. It was served piping hot which makes the dish. The restaurant is festive and colorful. Traditional music, not too loud. Great for families. Lots of seating. Cleanliness is also average. A dining experience which was very pleasurable. read more

The name of this restaurant should be changed to casa real bad. From the mediocre food and bad service to start. Our waitress walked away in the middle of the drink order. Took the entree order of two tables that arrived after us before coming back to get our order. Pro tip: Avoid the margaritas. If you can call them margaritas. The slushee overfilled slightly red "margarita" tasted lightly of bland strawberry bad tequila and a faint hint of cardboard. Pro tip: avoid the chips and salsa. Stale bland chips with no salt accompany watery no flavor no spice salsa. Don't hold your breath if you ask for an extra bowl it might take your whole meal to show up. Entrees arrived a few minutes apart so they obviously didn't get plated at the same time. And everyone at the table was eating when my side of bland rice and bland beans with a 10cent squirt of sour cream for a 14$ entree. Almost everything here would benefit from seasoning and acidity. The things that make food stand out. Nothing that was served here I couldn't look up a recipe for and make better myself at home. I beg to ask you why are your doors even open. read more

For my sister's bachelorette party we started off the night at Casa Real. BEST DECISION EVER!!! I chose Casa Real on a whim after going there for the first time and seeing that they had salsa lessons on Saturday nights. They were able to accommodate our party of 14 (I had made reservations in advance). The service was tremendous! We were all treated very well, my sister in particular. They sang to her, she wore a sombrero, and they gave her a free shot of tequila!! I would definitely recommend Casa Real for any occasion. We didn't stay late enough for the salsa lessons but I plan to go back soon to check it out. read more

This place is the worst. Been here once a few years ago and the food was awful but a family member wanted to go here so we went today. Unfortunately, it was still really bad and I'm sad we wasted money on this place that has no business being open. First of all, the service was awful. It did look like they did not have enough servers on the floor but even so, there should have been a manager or other support staff helping. Second, the margaritas were awful. They were basically water and tequila with a slight hint of margarita mix and strawberry. Additionally, the chips and salsa were very weak also. The chips were stale and had no salt on them. The salsa had no flavor and was watery. Our entrees were okay, however the rice and beans that came with it had no flavor. To top it off, I went to the restroom on the way out and there was no toilet paper. Awesome. Bottom line, if you want great Mexican food just travel a little further to Lake Orion and go to Sagebrush or Rio. Don't waste your time and money here. read more
