Americanized-Mexican style food. Casa Ramos is a branch off the Azteca restaurant chain. Multiple members of my family really love this place and that's why I go. If you are looking for Mexican food similar to the southwestern U.S. this is not your place. During peak hours this restaurant is hoppin'. So temper your expectations about instant service by ordering a beer or margarita as soon as you are seated and just relax. Plus you'll be provided a constant flow of chips y salsa while eyeballing the menu. After you place your order it won't take long to receive your food. This place is loud, crowded but not cramped, and generally happy. I believe the margaritas are large and strong for two reasons. To promote the festive Cinco de Mayo atmosphere and to loosen the billfold. I dare you to drink three. The menu is large and offers a wide variety of veggie, pork, beef and chicken entrees. I go with the carne asada y mojo. Carne Asada is thin, broiled steak topped with a steamed and charred green onion and jalapeño. Mojo is butter sautéed shrimp with garlic and red chili flakes. Decently priced food for how much we got and the quality of it. Came here at 9 pm on a Saturday night and there were minimal customers around us, and our waitress checked on us once throughout the entire time and it was maybe 3 minutes before she brought us our check. We were starving so we took advantage of the chips and salsa that were brought to us when we first sat down. We had to slow down after a couple minutes because no water was brought to us for the first probably 15 minutes because our waitress came and asked us if we wanted anything to drink besides water, and then when my boyfriend asked how much their well tequila shots were, she didn't know and just left and came back a few minutes later STILL WITH NO WATER and then asked us again what we wanted. I have to say though, the raspberry lemonade was amazing. I was worried that it was going to be too sweet like i've had other places, but it was honestly a perfect level of sweetness. We ran out of chips and salsa before we ordered our entree's and those along with our water were never refilled for our entire duration of our meal. She brought us our food and between her two other tables that she was serving, she couldn't remember which dish was whose between my boyfriend and I. (The picadilo was so good and juicy, it was probably my favorite thing about dinner.) Our waitress didn't even come NEAR us for the entire time that we were eating until we were done and waiting for the check. our total was $35 for 2 meals, a flavored lemonade, and then the extra for sour cream and guacamole, so not terrible but could be better priced especially for how small the enchiladas were, how little chicken was in them, and how there was almost NO enchilada sauce (the stuff that looks like sauce in the picture is pure grease, trust me we were fooled too). This place was a trip. It's like a Mexican restaurant from The Good Place. Or it's a Mexican restaurant run by space aliens who only watched Weekend at Bernie's before they landed. The decor is a strange melange of late-1980s to early 1990s Mexican, with booths upholstered in a Victorian brocade next to bright mustard walls and paintings of ladies with thick necks and slightly crossed eyes. It's called "Casa Ramos" but the menu reads "Aztecas". What's that about? Their tag line is "The legacy of a tradition". What does that mean? The salsa was a marinara sauce. It was not bad but it also wasn't salsa. My husband and I both had enchiladas. They weren't bad. If I had been drunk, I would have probably liked them a lot. They were not spicy but there was Tabasco on the table. It's bland microwave Mexican made by friendly space aliens. The servers were nice. They disappeared but that was probably just to observe our human behavior. The beer was cold. The guacamole was slightly fermented. Will we go back? Naw. After starting a low carb diet this was my go to Mexican place in town. I could order the Carne Asada Y Mojo and have a great low carb meal. Tonight we go in and notice a new menu with jacked up prices. Same food. I ordered my Carne Asada Y Mojo, no rice and beans, salad instead, and no tortillas. I also ordered a Virgin mojito. After eating (I actually had to spit out part of my "steak" as it was so tough I couldn't chew it) we got our bill. $21 for approx 5 oz of skirt steak with six shrimp (yes I counted) and some mushrooms and onions floating in a "butter" sauce. No rice and beans so they gave me some tomatoes, lettuce and a little cheese instead. They charged me an extra $1.50 for this "salad" (even though I had no rice and beans). The kicker was the mojito without alcohol that they charged me $6.50 for. I paid extra for guacamole and sour cream as well. When I asked the waiter why I was charged a salad and for an alcoholic beverage he said he would remove the salad but the mojito takes a lot of extra work to make do they had to charge me $5 for it (it's simple syrup and some mint). Total they took off $3 I certainly hope it was worth it for their three dollars because I will not be back. **Review update**. I did receive the customer service I was looking for that night after writing this review. The management and even the CEO replied and offered to rectify the issue. Went to Casa Ramos tonight. As usual food was very good. Service was horrible. Normsl staff that provide excellent service were not there. Waitress dropped menus, chips and salsa on our table more than 10 minutes after we arrived. It was another 20 minutes before she came back to get our drink orders. Our drinks were gone when the owner came out and took our order and made sure we had new drinks. Bus girl made sure we had salsa and chips. She brought out our order and refilled our drinks. Had to hold my credit card in the air until waitress asked if we were ready for our bill. (DUH). Left a $4 tip with note tip reflected service and it should go to bus girl as she was the only one who made sure we had what we needed. Another patron walked out without paying for his drink as no one came to get his food order after he had been there 45 minutes. I believe tips should reflect service. I understand service workers rely on tips as part of their salary, but if they want a 20% tip from me, they better provide SERVICE. I hope Victor sees this review. read more

Service is great but food is a different story. I ordered the Carne asada and never have I been so disappointed before. Carne asada was not seasoned at all. Husband got the fajita steak burrito and the tortilla it was wrapped in tasted as it had been microwaved to the extent where it was hardened. Not soft at all. Steak was also not seasoned within his fajita burrito and the majority was stuffed with rice and beans. Barely any veggies. This is definitely another commercialized Mexican restaurant with horrible food. If you want to see a vibrant setting and don't mind the quality of your food, feel free to go. Stopped by on my way home from Portland to get a quick bite to eat and catch the last part of the Seahawk game. The outside looks like any other mexican restaurant but was pleasantly surprised at the service and food. Had see this place for many years but just never had the time to stop. I've been coming to this restaurant for special occasions since I was a kid. Took my kids for the first time tonight. It didn't disappoint. Plenty of food. Price is fair. Service was solid and attentive. Gave good suggestions on the menu. What I find incredible is, in 20+ years of sporadic patronage, I've never had a bad experience. Just your typical Americanized Mexican food. For those that don't know, it's a sister restaurant to the chain Azteca. Their to go boxes actually say Azteca haha. I stopped here on my way to Seattle for lunch. There was no hostess so I sat in the bar area. It was pretty packed. I sat myself down in the corner and waited...and waited. Poor waitress was working by herself. I waved but it would be another 5 minutes before she came over. She apologized multiple times since one of their servers didn't show up. Apparently they were trying to get both the hostess and bar back to help out...it was still slow...painfully slow. Luckily I had some work to do anyways. Needless to say I was there for an hour and a half. Took over 30 minutes to get lunch. About 15 to get my drink. Was really too bad, certainly couldn't be in a rush here. My waitress explained in trying to get assistance no one actually knew how to do anything like running credit cards, etc. Seems like there needs to be some further training done in case of "emergencies" like this. Salsa had a strong metallic taste, as if it sat in a can overlong. Pork carnitas fajitas were equally awful. Slightly orangeish sauce had same off flavor. The pork was not tender or flavorful at all. Nor was it hot. The only up sides were the sides. The quacamole was real and fresh as were the solid not slushy beans. Normally I would send such food back. We stopped for lunch on our way home. This was our first and last time to dine here. When we arrived so 1:30 on a Saturday the place was hopping which should be a good sign--right? After exploring the menu I was surprised at how expensive this place was. 3 tacos for $14. A burrito for $13. Wanted fajitas but wasn't willing to pay $20. I ordered the Macho burrito which was a large portion. After getting into the burrito I discovered the girth was due to a generous portion of rice with a scant amount of chicken. Disappointing. My son could only stomach one taco and he was done. I write this 5 hours later are and our stomachs still hurt. They have a really great variety of entrees to choose from. I didn't even look through the whole menu before I ended up ordering, I already had too many tempting options to choose from! They weren't frugal with the shrimp which pleased me, and they were more than happy to make a special order for me. The service on the other hand could have been better. He was nice enough but he kept forgetting things. It also took forever for him to check in on us after we finished. We were going to get dessert but by the time he finally came around to us we decided to just go home. Walked in around 3pm on a Thur, on my way back to Cali.. Cristi was very helpful and knowledgeable. She talked to me about the dishes and even the Mexican beer selection, which is pretty great (except they don't have Bohemia and it is still on the menu). Like, when can you ever find Bohemia, tho... Plus, this IS Washington. I ordered the happy hour steak tacos, modelled after 'street tacos' but they actually come in the regular corn tortillas and they don't have anything but meat in them, aren't served with lime or salsa and tasted more like chewy cubes of steak, not cooked enough b/c they were hard but mine were dryish...dunno, probably not enough chile/cumin, or just more authentic flavors... Chili relleno plate. The chili was cooked correctly, I think the batter was bland so it made the cheese flavor kind of get lost in the texture, wasn't crispy, definitely more on the soooofftt side... but they could have thrown a rich red Chili sauce, or enchilada sauce... Something to grab me more, plus they don't use Mexican Oaxaca cheese, so the flavor is probably what they mean by more tex-mex? I still ate it tho, on the road, driving, needed sustenance. Rice and beans, yummy presentation was cool, the shells that hold the sides etc. They could save on that and use one shell and fill it half and half with rice/beans. Those two should be touching, they go together like peanut butter and jelly. Especially one shell cuz the plate is just 11 bucks, you get a lot of food..even with the option to add a second relleno for little over $6. Also, if you ate here, and you disagree... I'm just a chili relleno snob. You have to forgive me. The absolute best part of my first time at Casa Ramos, was my server, Cristi. She had a great attitude and was professional and looked into my eyes when talking to me. She greeted me, checked on me and never once sat around, waiting on something, she stayed busy and was working the entire time, even with just two tables. I did not see her stop one minute. While, in contrast, I did hear (all the way from the bar area) the hostess complaining about wanting to go home ...Alll the way in the other room. She probably should not have expressed that so loudly but she looked young anyway and didn't really seem to care whether or not I went to the bar, because she didn't offer me a seat or ask me when I walked in. Cristi was on it, tho. The management should be happy to have her. Also. I really wish they didn't play bachata and reggaeton... This is a Mexican restaurant. Just saying. Worried me on some level concerning the authenticity of the food that I was about to enjoy. And if this is family owned, lose the hostess (NAOMI) she sits watching videos on her phone, I'm listening to her at this very moment as I type this..."sit wherever you want...") and you're paying her for nothing... Also.....Got to up the flavor, please up the chili and maybe fire roast send chillies or tomatoes for the salsa, and warm beans are a nice touch and also the warm chips!
