I hate when I take non-vegan friends to a vegan restaurant and they enjoy it more than I do…read more It was my fault, I've never had gnocchi in my life before and they make a vegan version of it here! Too bad it tastes like crap. Blechhh. The mushroom sauce was worthy, but the gnocchi itself was mushy and made me think I was eating half digested food. The amount of parsley on top also made me feel like I was eating grass. *Insert joke about how veg*ns eat nothing but grass* So why 4 stars? Because everything else on the table was so good! It actually took every fiber of my being to try and enjoy my dish while we tasted each others. Stir fried noodles? Amazing. Italian sandwich? Unexpectedly savory and full of flavor. I had to feign 'fullness' and stop eating. I was actually still pretty hungry but the gnocchi was that bad. :( We all had dessert and those were just super decadent and yummy! The caipirinhas and beer were all cold, refreshing, and perfect on a warm day. So yeah, I just chose the bad apple on the menu. Better luck next time. Oh! One more thing, the chef here? Can we say absolute Brazilian Eye Candy? Yummy, I wish I could trade my dish in for him. And I think he saw us (my and my 2 girlfriends) catching glances roughly every 2.5 seconds. A good looking man that can cook? Wonder who the lucky lady is! ;D

Well, come to find out, Brazil actually has a little vegetarian and vegan movement going on. Surprised? I was too, but glad that I found one veggie spot in Copacabana, Bio Carioca. There's a really low key vibe here, pretty much a no-frills environment. Yet, you can find an abundant amount of options, even featuring gluten free and vegan options. I was there for breakfast (which, isn't really a prime meal there, so, it's nice to find places serving it), so started out with a Cafe (an espresso shot, if you want more of a traditional "coffee", order an americano). Then, since I'm an egg fanatic, and even though it didn't seem like the most "exciting" thing on the menu, I ordered Omelete com pimenta biquinho e alho poro (leek and local bell pepper). You also get a choice of cheese in any of your omelets, mozzarella or ricotta. I chose ricotta, but, they messed that up and gave me mozzarella, whatever. The omelete was good, but what I especially loved was the local bell pepper, different from any domestic pepper I've had. These tiny little guys packed a lot of flavor, and a little bit of heat too.

Doppel Burger is a vegan restaurant owned by a vegan eater. You can tell he cares about his product…read moreand likes interacting with guests. The burgers are pretty good, and that's coming from a meat eater! You order a burger based on a menu of toppings but then get to pick what kind of patty you'd like. There are four to pick from with the soy bacon being my favorite over the also good Indian one. When I visited they were out of many items on the menu which isn't a good look but that didn't stop me from getting what I hoped to order. Prices are a steal for what you get. Credit cards accepted and the owner speaks English. I'd visit again but try something else. There are better veggie burgers, but it's still a good choice if you're craving one.

A Google search pulled up this restaurant and I am so glad we trusted the reviews. We spoke with the owner, Alexandre, who informed us that he and his business partners are vegans. He gave us some awesome suggestions from the menu, and it turned out to be the best meal we had. As a meat eater, the vegan burgers could give some of my favorite non-veg burger places a run for their money. The fries were shoestring, my favorite kind. Service was fast and great. I will absolutely return on my next trip to Rio!

We were a a party of 14, and i know it's a lot to handle but from the start we were not attended correctly. Ordering food and drinks was a mess bc the server never asked for our drinks so we were all asking whoever passed by at different times since we had to be divided into 3 separate tables. Also we didnt receive everything that was promised with the feijoada rodicio. We were supposed to receive some sort of "shots" but we did not. Otherwise, the place itself is small but very pretty and romantic.

It's a fairly small restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the crowd seemed to be mostly locals--which is always a good sign. They're known for their traditional Feijoada (black bean stew), but I decided to go with the Filé Mignon com Catupiry (Filet Mignon with Catupiry cheese). I was a little skeptical at first--I'd never had filet with a cheese sauce before--but oh my god, it was delicious! The Catupiry cheese is seriously amazing. I definitely recommend this place if you're in the area. Next time, I think I'll finally try their famous Feijoada!
