Greasy napkins-but the pizza was still good
    Lynn P.

Tabasco and red pepper already on the table, love that! The garlic cheese knots are so good, fresh, warm and gooey. The service is friendly. The building is an old pizza place. It could use some updating but that doesn't affect the food. All the local patrons seem to be happy. As far as the pizza. I like greasy, soft crust pizza. I know a lot of people don't but I do so it didn't bother me. But I took the picture of the greasy napkins from where we blotted the grease in case this kind of thing upsets your stomach. I'm not sure if they use low-moisture cheese or not but the pizza to me was good. Overall, I'd eat here again

    Cheesy garlic knots

We went for our 3rd visit here and they are consistently good! They were pretty busy but not packed yet and we were seated right away. The hostess could use some work on not scowling but she was efficient. Our server came right away and was very pleasant. Now to the important stuff: the food! It was excellent! I ordered the 10" Stromboli without pepperoni or mushrooms. It was made perfectly and came out hot and fresh. I was pleasantly surprised that it had a lot of Italian sausage, mozzarella, seasonings and a rich tomato sauce. These things are lacking and bland in some other local eateries. The first bite was as good as the last! It was so large and stuffed, even I could not finish it. My hubs decided to order 2 appetizers instead of an entree, because why not? He opted for the cheesy garlic knots and jalapeno poppers, which were one of their specials of the day. He was thrilled with both! The owner stopped by and was gracious enough to give us a big slice of German chocolate cake when he found out we had trouble getting drink refills. We assured him that we loved the food and would be back often. Our little town is very lucky to have such a good Italian restaurant and I'm so happy they are doing such good business!

Finally! Real chicken wings that you can bite into. Not these two second strip the meat to the bone, so called chicken wings that I have experienced. To be fair, I haven't tried every local chicken wing offering but these are the best so far. The fried mushrooms were huge and equally delicious. Extra star for military/veteran discount. Fast service and casual family ambiance in the restaurant.

    10" calzone - delicious!

We've dined here about once a month since the beginning of the year. Food has always been good, service has always been friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is clean. The ambiance is casual and not overly noisy. I've tried different meals each time. Last night I had a 10" calzone with pepperoni and black olives. It was absolutely delicious. I was impressed that the cheese and filling went all the way to each edge (whereas at other places, they don't do that and you just get big bites of the crust only in the corners). It was seasoned well and is extremely well priced for the amount that you receive. My aunt had the lasagna, which is one of her go-to favorite dishes here. It's a great dining experience for families, couples and groups and they have a decent variety of items to choose from to make everyone happy.

Being from Connecticut and only having stayed in TN twice, I have never been to a Cook Out. I did…read morehear a lot about it from Southern word of mouth, but they are definitely a regional chain that operates in the South. If there's any in other regions of the nation, I'd love to know, especially if they ever end up in the Northeast. So after I was taken to a Bible Study, my brother finally took me to my first Cook Out. For those back home who visit the South, don't sleep on these! They will definitely fill for a cheap price. How cheap you ask? Two tray meals will only set you back $16 and change. To compare, I had to pay almost the exact same price for one meal at WingStop where I live! And for how much you pay, these actually pretty good! My brother had the Double Tray with a chicken quesadilla and hush puppies. Mine was the BBQ Tray with the cheddar bites and the walkin' taco. The barbecue is about as good as it gets for a chain restaurant, and the meal is miles better than any McSad's you would go to. The walkin' taco I needed a spoon to eat because that's how you get inside the bag. The cheddar bites could be better, but they're still about Wayback Burgers quality of food which isn't a bad thing at all. If this is how your typical Cook Out gets, then you got a good regional chain anytime you make a trip to the South.

I've tried a number of Cook Outs across Tennessee. Greeneville's location is, by far, the worst. At this location I can't tell if they are closing the doors for good and just want to get rid of things before the doors lock, or they've just opened for the first time and have no idea what to do. My experience at other locations creates a glimmer of hope at the Greeneville location, but when I try it I am typically left wondering how this location keeps the lights on, but the long lines prove me wrong time and time again. Please, let me help, Cook Out. If the burger patty is crunchy, it should not be placed on the burger. If sauce is to be added, please don't try to add enough sauce to overpower (or maybe soak?) the dry, leathery patty. Just get a fresh patty and use that one. Yes, it's fast food. Yes, you should try to work with expediency. No, you should not do so to create a mess in creating, wrapping, and packing the food. While you may have decent shakes, I remind you that Sonic and Dairy Queen are far, far too close for you to rest on your laurels at better service. If you've read this far and are looking for food recommendations, I recommend you go to Pal's, just a short drive down the road.
