We had this place on our foodie radar and enjoyed our first visit. The food and service were amazing. My wife and only remaining boss enjoyed the Pollo En Crema, slices of chicken breast marinated in a tasty blend of spices and creamy almond sauce and zucchini and rice. I thought hers was very good but mine was better, the Astros Special had a lot of goodies, one beef burrito topped with chile con carne, a poblano pepper filled with beef and topped chile con queso and one fajita and bean taquito topped with melty gooey provolone cheese. We'll be back.

Very good real Mexican food! Very casual, feels comfortable and familiar. The owner is so kind and attentive. It was empty besides 2 other tables when we went, but that was at 4pm on a Sunday. All together a great spot. We definitely will be back

Came to Maximo on a weekday around 5:30 and it was pretty quiet at first, but by the time we…read morefinished dinner the place had filled up a lot. It's definitely a smaller, cute neighborhood spot with a really fun vibe. The service was good. Our server was funny, attentive, and made the experience fun. We started with the "corn ribs" appetizer and WOW. Probably one of my favorite corn dishes I've had in a long time. So flavorful and addictive. We also got the "Tiradito de Hamachi" crudo, which was fresh and delicious! For the entree, my friend and I shared the tacos (which comes with your choice of 3). We added an extra taco to make it 4. I was genuinely shocked that the mushroom taco ended up being my favorite because I almost always prefer meat, but it was THAT good. The fried shrimp taco was also amazing. For dessert, we got the tres leches cake. I'm usually not a huge fan of strawberry or fruit toppings on desserts, but the cake itself was really, really good. I ended up just removing the strawberries and eating the cake, which was moist and flavorful. The only downside for me was the drinks. They looked larger than they actually were because of the glassware, and they tasted a little watered down. I had two, and they just weren't very strong or super flavorful. Other than that though, the food and service absolutely made up for it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

I would also recommend the lump crab dish, guacamole, and shrimp appetizer A really cool concept and service was great. All staff were really friendly and made sure our experience was great. Our server paced out our courses really well and made sure we always had clean plates and silverware. Would definitely come back and try more of the menu There's a small parking lot and also lots of free street parking. The restaurant itself is cute and relatively small

He anticipates what we need before we even have to ask, keeps everything running smoothly, and somehow manages to make it seem effortless. What really sets Ethan apart is his positive attitude and genuine connection with guests. He remembers details, offers great recommendations, and brings a level of enthusiasm that makes the entire experience fun! It's no exaggeration to say he's one of the main reasons we visit nearly every week. If you're looking for great service and consistently great food, we highly recommend both Ethan and Little Pappasito's Cantina.

Went with family on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Had a reservation. Lucky to find a parking…read morespace. That was the good part. Seated at a large round table. Ordered queso, guacamole and fajitas with flour and corn tortillas, quesadillas and a side of grilled veggies. Fairly straightforward for a Mexican restaurant. So, then we waited and waited and waited. Eventually got a few glasses of water, some plates and some silverware. Not enough for the entire party. I guess they were washing the plates and cutlery. The chips and salsa and queso came out with the guacamole. Still waiting for plates for a few in our group. Don't worry they told us. We will bring out more plates and silverware with the fajitas. Then the quesadillas and fajitas came out with the beans and rice, but no tortillas. No flour tortillas. No corn tortillas. And no extra plates. Still washing dishes?? So we kept waiting as we ate in shifts. Like being on call. But we were just a large family seated together at a round table. Eventually, they brought us more silverware so we weren't eating with spoons and they brought out large plates. Like oversized entree plates for our fajitas. We ordered fajitas to go, but there was so much food on the table that we asked for to go boxes. Once. Twice. Three times. Went to the hostess and even to the manager. Still they refused to bring me boxes to take the food to go. My family got impatient, so we finally left. So much food waste. Would have been good for lunch the next day. We LOVE the Original Pappasito's on Richmond and Hillcroft. There is a difference. Worth it to drive not to deal with this lack of customer service. So surprised.

I am so fortunate to live near Don Pepe. I just returned from Mexico City and having withdrawal from the lack of Mexican food in my kitchen. Don Pepe to the rescue!!! In their new location just around the corner, the menu is much more expansive and I'm on a journey to work my way through that menu. This is not TexMex if that's what you're looking for. This is authentic Mexican food like I enjoyed in Mexico City. The owner who is always present and most often working the counter for orders, is so nice and accommodating. I am a vegetarian and he, without fail, accommodates my request for no meat in any dish. I am addicted to Don Pepe breakfast tacos. Little did I know, there is so much more. I arrived home from Mexico City Tuesday evening. Wednesday I needed my Mexican food fix, so I went straight to Don Pepe for lunch. I had the avocado enchiladas. Outstanding! After eating healthily between Wednesday and today, I needed yet another Don Pepe meal. This time I had the papas con rajas with fresh corn tortillas. AMAZING! I'm not sure I can ever order anything else here. I was a little worried the charm of the previous location would be lost when they relocated. Nope! Charming as ever and stylishly decorated with much of the artwork from the previous location. Wish me luck staying away from Don Pepe! Oh and most importantly, they have quite an array of Mexican candy at the counter where you order! That was a very pleasant surprise and yeah, I bought a piece of candy to take home for dessert.

There is zero pretense here, a regular local crowd, excellent service, and affordable yet tasty food. The surrounding neighborhood is definitely blue collar with tight but dedicated parking that fills up quickly in the mornings. I find the best times are between breakfast and lunch before the crowds really roll in. The format is casual: order at the counter, grab utensils and water and eventually food will be brought to the table. Tamales are some of my favorite foods and Don Pepe has a nice variety of the classics. The verdes with chicken or pork are excellent and go for about $3 each. The vegetarian friendly jalapeño and cheese as well as black bean and cheese are also very good. The more expensive ($6) tamales oaxaqueños are also tasty but not always available. Their other breakfast foods are worth the price of admission alone. They are another outlet for breakfast taco, along with sopes, and huevos platters on preference. Huevos rancheros and divorciados are a nice way to start the morning and on weekends they also have menudo. I find the enchiladas to be a nice surprise and the huaraches and sopes are definitely a thumbs up. The service is always friendly and very efficient. They have a number of family members working the front / back, so it definitely has the vibe of a homey operation. I am certain they take credit cards, but I usually pay in cash. They close in the afternoons around 2pm/3pm so getting in early is always recommended.
