The selection within the store was very good, for produce and fresh counters for meat, fish, cheese and baked goods. I was able to find the products I was looking for in stock or at least a similar alternative. Prices were reasonable in most areas, although many items, especially branded ones, seemed more expensive compared to back home in the UK, even coffee, which is funny as I noticed Nespresso was slightly cheaper here, but the capsules in the supermarket cost more. While the store overall was relatively comfortable and attractive, the checkout area felt like we were going back 10-15 years, it felt crowded and outdated. A very good supermarket overall, it follows the regular shopping centre opening hours of 8 am-midnight which again is very good for those who prefer to get groceries in the evening when it is quieter. 4*

We were staying in a beautiful Airbnb just up the hill northwest a mile. We could see Guincho, but Bar do Guincho is tucked up just off the beach with a big beautiful open deck with glass railings. Other outdoor sections are more protected from the frequent wind, and then there is a great room indoors with a big fireplace for the off season. Service was awesome. Each table had a unique QR code on a caddy that allowed you to not just see the menu but order at your own pace and also pay at the end. They also offer regular table service for curmudgeons and luddites. (just joking!) We ordered the delicious passion fruit sangria and it arrived in 5 minutes. All of our food was excellent, particulary the Portuguese fried shrimp (sauteed to Americans!) and the ceviche. The fries and bread were also delicious. You will not find a more beautiful view or a better vibe. We never go back to the same place during a short visit but we hit Bar do Guincho twice in three days. Can't wait to return next visit!

They also sell cured meats and wine. The place is split into two parts. One side is more of a market, and the other side is the tasting room. After the sampling, we sat down and ordered our plates and some wine and kicked back to an amazing meal. The server was great and they even had high chairs. We were the only ones in the whole place too so that helped. It is nicely decorated and well priced. What else can be better?!

One of my favorite things to do when traveling abroad is to wander the aisles of grocery stores on the prowl for good deals, amusing products, and wild Australian dogs. The aisles of Pingo did not disappoint! Star Wars obsessed? Check out the Jabba the Hutt fish in the seafood section! Fan of the Two-Buck Chuck? Pingo has a full wall of wines under $5. Kermit is your spirit animal? Muppet eye special in aisle 3! Take note that items from the deli and pastry section must be paid for at that counter. There is also a check-out line reserved only for pharmacy items. Pingo also houses the entry to the "secret" Castelo Elevador, which will lift you most the way up to St. George Castle. Overall this chain grocery store is a fantastic pit stop to load up on refreshments, basic needs, and cheap pastries. Next time some obnoxious woman complains, "I've lost my fiancé, the poor baby," put on your worst Australian accent and let her know he's at the Pingo Dingo!
