Sat at the bar and had a fantastic experience at Casa di Giorgio. The cocktails came out quick...a great way to start the night. The shrimp cocktail was amazing...super fresh and perfectly chilled. We also had a thin-crust pizza that was nicely crisp without being heavy, and we split the lamb shank with saffron risotto, which was tender, rich, and full of flavor. This restaurant feels like stepping into the 80's, very dark and red with Roman-inspired décor that could really use some updating. The food itself was pretty good. I had the chicken parm, which was tasty, and my husband enjoyed his lasagna. The red sauce stood out as very flavorful. Unfortunately, the bread was disappointing, tasting like it came straight from the grocery store rather than freshly made. The service, however, left a lot to be desired. When we arrived, there was no hostess. After waiting a bit, an older man finally appeared, but instead of greeting us, he simply gestured for us to follow him and then pointed us toward a table. That was the extent of our interaction until our waitress arrived with the menus. She had to run back and forth to check on basic things like what sodas they had and what kids' meals were available. First off this is NOT a chain restaurant. If you are looking for cheap lesser-quality food, go elsewhere! Whoever is the cook does a heck of a job! Even sides dishes are special. Last week we had mushroom ravioli with a demi-glaze sauce; absolutely first rate! Also had eggplant parm, which few restaurants even serve because it's a fussy dish to make. It was also excellent. I was in the area with some personal business and I was done around 11am and it was a 9 degree day with plenty of wind so a nice warm bowl of soup sounded good so I jumped on yelp to see what's around and I saw soups in the pictures. The French baked onion soup pictures looked good so I drove over for some. The place has a nice bar as you walk in with nice tables and booths and generally nice looking and not cheesey over the top Italian decor. My server seated me promptly and brought me some menus which I looked over but I was getting the French onion soup on this cold day. My server seemed taken back when I ordered just the baked French onion soup with nothing else but that's all I wanted for lunch. My French baked onion soup took about 10 minutes and looked good so I took a small sip of the broth before I dug in and I thought it was average with no real depth but not salty. I mixed the soup up so I could get the crostini, provolone and gruyere cheeses mixed with the breaddy base and onions so I took a big spoon full and I was shocked that the soup was boiling hot and it completely burned my tongue and the roof of my mouth. I have never been served a soup that hot where my mouth was scorched and blister now I can't really taste normally so I don't know if it was good or not because it was all textures at this point. The cheese mixture was very cheesy and it had plenty of onions and in general I had all the ingredients to the last spoonful so it was not skimpy but I still didn't know how it really tasted. I wonder if my soup was intentionally made boiling hot because I went to this pricey nice restaurant and only ordered the soup and 5 hours later my mouth is not normal yet. If a cook/chef serves a customer boiling hot soup then they are incompetent and should find another line of work because a soup hot station doesn't keep soup that hot and a broiler to melt the cheese doesn't boil the liquid in the crock. I placed an order online for curbside pickup at 4:25 pm. A notification came back saying my food would be ready within 20-25 minutes. I hadn't dined here before so I had high hopes the food would not disappoint. I had a 20% discount code which enticed me to order more food. When I pulled up and called the number to let them know I had arrived, it took about 5 minutes before the owner came out with food in hand. He sent me on my way with a smile and seemed pleasant. Our experience was good, not great as some of the dishes did not seem to be very flavorful. The winning dish was as the spaghetti and meatballs. I was happy to have ordered an extra side of meatballs...thank goodness as my kids were fighting over who would get more. I will definitely return for them! However, the minestrone soup, fettuccine Alfredo, GF pasta with asparagus and chicken and the asparagus salad were just ok. Came on a snowy Friday evening with a big group. The place was still packed despite the crazy weather and winter storm warning. The atmosphere is cozy and warm, the staff was decently friendly (just make sure you ask your server for stuff - I made the mistake of asking another server and she was unfriendly and told me I wasn't her server). Grilled asparagus salad - WOW presentation! This literally wowed everyone at the table. I walked to the other side of the table to get a picture. Though I didn't get a taste of it, my friend said it was pretty good. half duck over rice - wouldn't get it again. Duck had a strong smell that even the Peking ducks don't have. Disappointed. Rice was actually really good. clam chowder - salty, and mostly potatoes. homemade lasagna - great portion. Friend said she loved it. She looked happy with her leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Fantastic place, not sure why it has a mediocre rating on here. We went because it was close to our hotel, not expecting much based on reviews. We absolutely loved our meals here and the owner was so welcoming and gracious. We had the rigatoni bolognese (he allowed us to sub spaghetti) and the beef ragu, both were fabulous and had terrific flavor. We also had small side salads, the Caesar was light and so fresh tasting, and a basket of some of the best Italian bread we've had. We used to love the pizza, but they discontinued it, we were very disappointed as it was the main reason we went out of our way to go to Casa Di Giorgio. My go to dish other than the pizza was the Baked Mostaccioli with Meat Sauce, but the last 2 times we had it, they had changed the meat sauce, and it was not good, I did not even take home the leftovers. My sister use to like the chicken parmigiana, but they also changed the marinara sauce, and she no longer like that either. DO NOT GIVE THIS RESTAURANT YOUR BUSINESS! I love exploring restaurants in and around Milwaukee and supporting small businesses but the experience I had at Casa Di Giorgio was unacceptable. I hate to write bad reviews on local places but this needs to be shared. My boyfriend and I decided to go to Casa Di Giorgio after we found a Groupon. The Groupon was for dinner, but I know a lot of restaurants are flexible with when they'll accept Groupons and I was thinking about going earlier in the day instead of later. I called the restaurant and told the employee who answered that I had a Groupon for dinner but was wondering if I could use it for lunch. The employee said she would check then came back and told me that it would be fine to use the Groupon at lunch time instead. I told her I'd see her soon! We get into the restaurant (empty), order, get our food (mediocre), and ask for the bill/give the waitress our Groupon voucher number. Let me talk briefly about the food first. The food at Casa Di Giorgio is worse than the "Italian" food from Olive Garden and way worse than the "Italian" food from Bravo. It's also around the same price if not more expensive. It's not authentic, it doesn't taste good. If you want good Italian food, do not expect to find it at this restaurant. I have been to Italy multiple times, this restaurant is not authentic. I have dined at much better Italian restaurants within 20-30 min from this restaurant (Egg & Flour, Tavolino, etc) try those if you want food that tastes good. I also don't mind non-authentic food but like I said before - you're better off going to Olive Garden or Bravo. The food is not worth paying full price for and the only thing that brought be through the doors was the Groupon (I dined here before and knew it was average but came back for the cheap price via Groupon). Now back to the ugly situation we faced. When we gave our Groupon voucher number to the waitress she took it to the register where the owner was. We could see the owner telling arguing with her so we knew something was wrong. The waitress (a very sweet young lady) came back and told us that the owner said we actually can't use the Groupon because it is for dinner and that he told her to tell us that we have to pay the full price. Like I said earlier - I only stepped foot in this restaurant for discounted food. I was not going to pay the full price because it was not worth it, I did not want to come back another time to use the Groupon, and finally, an employee told me that I could use the Groupon so the restaurant has to own up to that. I told the waitress I'd like to speak to the manager and tell him that an employee told me I could use the Groupon so I am expecting to use it. The waitress went to get the owner and came back to tell me that he had left to take his dog out for a walk. I waited 25 minutes for the owner to come back (I was done with my meal and ready to leave). The owner came to our table (me & my boyfriend were wearing masks and the owner was not while standing very close to us... real classy). I explained to him that an employee told me I could use the Groupon so I am expecting to use the Groupon (keep in mind I was saying this all in a very calm and polite way... but honestly it's the truth. The customer should not pay for the mistakes of a company and it's employees). The owner proceeded to argue with me and ask me why I would even suggest using it at lunch when the Groupon said it's valid for dinner. I said that other places are flexible and I ASKED and YOUR employee said it was fine so why would I believe the writing on a third-party website over the words of your physical employee. He raised his voice, got very animated, and very disrespectful in the way he spoke to both my boyfriend and I (while also being ignorant to a PANDEMIC and not wearing a mask). He basically yelled at us until I was over it and calmly told him that I am not paying the full price. I will use the Groupon and pay for whatever I ordered over the Groupon price and I will tip because the waitress was a poor young girl who I really felt sorry for. He finished his disrespect of us by yelling "it's not about the money!!! This is not right!!! Pay $1, pay $5, pay $0 I DON'T CARE! IT'S NOT RIGHT." The waitress came with tears in her eyes to redeem our Groupon after the owner yelled at her. I felt very bad and sorry for the waitress. We tipped her very very well, gave her some encouraging words, and told her she should apply at another more busy restaurant (this place was DEAD!) !!!!BOTTOM LINE: the owner of this restaurant is rude and indecent. The food is not even close to good enough to make up for this - it is so mediocre. This is the type of restaurant you see on Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsay. Period. Save your money, save yourself a headache, eat somewhere else (ANYWHERE else). Casa Di Giorgio is a workhorse open 7 days a week and features a $5 extended 3-7pm bar happy hour menu 7 days a week. Since I didn't know about this happy hour I was excitedly determined to try as much as possible for 5 bucks a plate. $5 escargot- yes please! Served traditionally - in herbs, garlic, butter. The escargot plate was cracked, but hey - still worked. $5 onion soup. Closest to actual menu price, but still saved a couple of bucks. At first I thought it needed more cheese but at the end it felt like enough (I'm a cheese glutton). However, I couldn't figure out why it was so incredibly oily. I suppose they over did it when cooking the onions down? Or is gruyere (as the menu claimed) that much of an oily cheese? Anyway, overall a decent dish with good ratios and a rich, dark brown broth. A solid 3 out of 5. Not the best, not terrible. $5 shrimp de jonghe. Basically it was 4 butterflied shrimp, a square bowl of butter and 4 triangle toasts. Needless to say I skipped eating the bowl of butter and toast triangles. I ate the 4 shrimp though. But, not too much flavor or seasoning. $5 mozzarella wrapper prosciutto -- the worst thing I ate. This and the shrimp I would not order again for $5 definitely not for full price. The prosciutto didn't taste fresh. The mozzarella cheese used wasn't buffalo mozzarella fresh - is there really any other way to go?? It was like a processed cheese wrapped in old prosciutto and I bet it was string cheese. But more melty (meaning again, "processy"). Let's not forget an order for a regularly priced $5ish house salad. I needed something healthy with all of this butter and oil! And this is what I ate my butterflied shrimp with. My dressing choice was vinegar and oil cruets. (I only used the balsamic ;) the cruets were cracked but they worked (sensing a theme here??). I have a special place in my heart for supper clubs and traditional style. But in this day, it cannot fall short with the same tired dishes that fell short 50 years ago. More thought has to be put behind what gets served to people. Diners are smarter, have more options, thus are choosier. Ingredients MUST BE FRESH. Balance is a prerequisite. Everything has to make sense. The best I can rightfully give Casa Di Giorgio is 3 stars. I don't know if they'll ever make it past that unless they keep some of the old traditions & regulars but get progressively fresh and new. This place is sweet but needs some oxygen. My server, a young female, was the sweetest and worth the 25% tip. Love most of the happy hour $5 wine options. The $5 "martini options were mostly sugared down "wanna be" martinis, however. I wanted to not like this place after reading some of the reviews, but I really was in the mood for some heavy garlic and did not wish to drive too far. So I rolled the dice. I was going to order a starter as well as an entree but decided to just go with the rigatoni bolognese with a side of meatballs. It arrived about ten minutes later, by which time I had demolished the warm bread and as much of the salad as I was going to eat. The salad was rather on the poor side and the Italian vinaigrette dressing was more oil than anything else. The food was hot and meaty and cheesy and delicious. I got all of the Vitamin G that I needed, thanks! Plus: My server was Dan. Dan can hustle. I think he had tables on both sides of the restaurant so he was running around quite a bit. I tipped him well. Minus: Moments before the food arrived, the lights were turned WAY down. Like "Where's my fork?" darkness. Sometimes you find a gem on the road. Like I always do--I looked up restaurants on Yelp to find the best option. Casa Di Giorgio came up and it was close to MKE airport in Milwaukee were we were going to catch a flight a few hours later and we thought we'd give them a try. Also, a Yelp friend gave them a personal recommendation--Thanks John O. We arrived right at the end of the lunch crowd. I ordered Veal Parmigiana and my wife ordered French Onion Soup. The Veal was served with a nice side salad and bread. With the meal they brought a side of Ziti with a nice Marinara sauce. The Veal and pasta were excellent though a little small in portion sizes. My wife's French Onion was fantastic. The food is five-star! Ultimately, the Veal and Noodle portions, maybe lunch size, were just too small. At least throw a full bowl of noodles at your customers. The price was $14.99 for the fresh Veal. 7.95 for the French Onion Soup. I'd go back again but request dinner portions. I'm going four-stars with the one-star deduction for the portion size. Though the food is very good and worth you giving them a try. Check them out and get dinner portions. To the restaurant: C'mon man-give your customers more than a kiddy's size portion of noodles! I'm really confused as to why all of the bad reviews. Three of us ate here last night. We were one of three tables. We noticed that the bartender was also the waiter. He was quick, witty and just a great guy. We assumed that he had to be the owner. He was. It was only him and a cook. We each had an appetizer, calamari, fried ravioli and shrimp cocktail. I feel like this place is more for the older crowd. I had the chicken parmesan while I liked that it had coating and pan fried. I had to ask for spaghetti noodles because it normally comes with penne i believe. It did have way too much sauce just my preference and possibly could have a little more seasonings but I liked it for the most part. The decor is darker older maybe Victorian esk supper club like wear your red robe coat smoke a cigar feeling. They have seafood entrees, noodle dishes and some sandwiches and a few other choices. We went there a year ago and the food and service was good, and since then, the service has deteriorated and I would not waste your time. I ordered the porcini pasta with truffle oil. This is normally an amazing dish prepared with delicious olive oil and peppered with truffle oil or flakes. This dish came with thick dark gravy which totally overwhelmed the the dish. Also, several in our party either did not get their dish or they did not enjoy it. If you go there good luck. One more thing, the sea bass was never served and the service was non existent that night. My Father suggested this spot for dinner based on a good experience he had and WOW - was he RIGHT!! Simply put, though they had a number of wonderful looking Italian dishes on their menu, I opted for their 12 oz. Filet Mignon. Though I have had a filet at a number of restaurants including various upscale steak houses owned by NFL players and coaches, I have NEVER had a better filet than I did here. It was absolutely perfectly cooked, was butterflied (at my request) exquisitely and amazingly juicy, to the point I had little use for the accompanying gravy. I simply can't say enough about how perfect it was, I know that's going to ruin me for when I go back to a "fancy" steakhouse. It was accompanied by a choice of sides, and I chose pasta with red sauce, and it too was perfect. I don't have much more I could say about them except to say I hope this review doesn't make them so popular they become difficult to visit.
