My group wanted to do snorkeling and at first I was going to go with a place off Viator but Reddit steered me to Casa del Buceo - it's a small locally owned business and the prices are very fair compared to other places. For reference, a private group of eight on a 2 hour snorkeling tour was 1500 pesos per person. I think we could have done 2.5 hours but more on that later. Booking and confirming the reservation was a breeze - I did it all over email but they also have WhatsApp. Two days before our scheduled date, they asked to push it to a day earlier because the weather was looking bad the morning that we requested so I felt very reassured that they were keeping an eye on the forecast. Now I've only gone snorkeling once before but the snorkeling around the island gets pretty choppy with the waves. I'm saying that as someone who gets seasick at the drop of a hat and even thought I took medication before this trip, I still got super seasick as soon as the boat stopped and we were just swaying around and putting on our fins. Getting in the water and seeing all the cool fish (the visibility was great) helped but by the end of the second snorkeling stop (where they took us out much deeper and the waves were ROUGH), a few others and I were basically green and we called the end of the tour and headed back. I can't say enough good things about the people who work here, from the guy who helped get us set up with our equipment and later brought me a mug of super fizzy Coke to help settle my stomach to our tour guide who pointed out neat things below us (like the underwater sculptures at MUSA). I will say that the actual mechanics of snorkeling was a learn as you go approach - we didn't get much instruction other than just to blow on the googles if they fogged up - so unless you're an experienced snorkeler/swimmer, you might spend the first ten minutes accidentally gulping salt water. Once I did get the hang of it, it was a lot of fun. And even though the open water got terrifying near the end and, despite my nausea, I was fighting back fears of being swept away on the current, I felt safe that our guide was somewhere close around us. I don't think snorkeling is in the cards for me in the near future but for anyone else who's interested, I can't recommend CdB enough! read more

We couldn't go out due to the weather, which happens. We tried to be as flexible as possible, but both days, the port didn't let anyone out. Casa del Buceo kept $120 USD of our deposit, and did not provide any service. Why not a full refund? That's a good question. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place. Unless you are going same day when the weather is nice, maybe the team is good, but I wouldn't reserve in advance again with them due to their lack of flexibility. read more

Great Yelp find. Boutique shop with personal caring service. We did a private 1/4 day snorkeling trip. Brought our own gear but quickly found that it was no bueno. The captain and tour guide never missed a beat. They had extra gear for us even giving my daughter his own mask to use. Totally saved the day. They swam along side us pointing out just the right places to be and see. Alway felt my family was safe and well attended. Very windy with choppy seas and rain. I typically never write reviews but this one was a must! We found this boutique place on Yelp and it was amazing!!!! Pablo picked us up from the ferry stop (free of cost) and Luis was our guide. For simply $60 US dollars- per person we got a private small boat, private captain (papo with over 20+++ years of experience) and private guide, Luis who swam with us to the 4 different spots around the island. The snorkeling was amazing! The water was yet blue... we saw fishes, turtles, corals etc.this was def one of the highlights of our honeymoon. I wish we could've done scuba diving but as they explained we needed more time away from flying the airplane back home. EVERY GUY in this place was either a professional fisher, diver, captain or local in the island. I can't say enough GREAT things about the attention they gave us!! Our guide Luis even helped another company with their snorkeling clients because their guide sucked and some ppl almost hit the coral.... Which they explained is not only dangerous but venomous. Who ever is in Cancun, tulum, playa del Carmen OR Isla mujeres needs try this place!!! I went on 4 dives, 2 each day for two days. I chose this small company because of reviews I read online and because I wanted to give business to a smaller business owner (versus a larger corporation). The owner (Pablo) was kind, informative, and helpful. He even drove me to a fantastic place for lunch today. The dive master Enrique was absolutely perfect. I felt safe with him. He made sure I knew what was going on at all times. He is quite competent and professional. One day the captain of the boat was Jesus, and one day it was Jose. The equipment was all in perfect working order and clean. I thought the costs were reasonable. I saw a few turtles, lots of colorful fish and coral, barracuda, puffer fish, lobsters, trumpet fish, moral eels, and some rays (sting rays I think). I would highly recommend these guys. read more

Speechless! Casa Del Buceo had impeccable service from the start. It was recommended to me by a coworker who had an amazing experience with whale shark snorkeling in July 2014. A few friends and I rinsed and repeated the same experience in late July 2015 and it did not fall short. Pablo, who is the owner, answered all my questions over the phone and we were booked. The day before our first whale shark excursion, Pablo and team saw 80-100 whale sharks, manta rays, and dolphins. We had Enrique as our snorkel-master and Jesus as our captain. They were a fabulous duo and Enrique makes you feel right at home by cracking jokes with you at the start. We saw at least 40 different whale sharks feeding when we got to the spot. The best things about Casa Del Buceo for phenomenal whale shark for are three-folds: - First in, first out. They have you arrive by 7am so you can be one of the first boats out there before all the other tourists arrive - Small and personalized. They stay away from the rest of the other tours so you can have a personalized tour of the whale sharks. They also take a maximum of 8 people per whale shark tour. - Special attention. Make sure you are not shy about what you want. Enrique will take one or two snorkelers on personalized tours later on so you can have a safe up close and personal encounter with the whale sharks (no touching them!) I've done whale shark tours in Western Australia and this was by far one of the most impeccable sea life tours I've ever been on. Enrique led me to see a very very large whale shark that we followed for 10 minutes. I got to swim right next to its gills for two minutes and even the front of its mouth while it was feeding for at least 30 seconds. I can't explain how great the entire tour was. We loved the team so much that we decided to book a last minute and same day night dive again with Captain Jesus and Dive Master Enrique. That night we got to see sleeping turtles, bioluminescent plankton, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, eels, spiny lobsters, sea stars, and a giant octopus - see my video for reference. It was an outstanding experience for only $70 USD. We are so excited we're booking yet another dive in our short 3 day trip in Isla Mujeres. I can't say any more incredible things about Casa Del Buceo except that they take really good care of you. Please do yourself a favor and leave the island of Cancun and come to Isla Mujeres even if it is to just dive or snorkel with Casa and talk to Pablo. read more

I picked this place because of the Yelp reviews and they were spot on!! I booked through email after exchanging numerous emails back and forth with them. I had a few questions regarding the ferry since we were staying near the Punta Sam ferry. They suggested we get there as soon as we could, as the snorkeling was better in the morning. We took the 8:15am ferry and arrived at the dock at 9am. We hopped into a taxi and took it to the marina. Taxi cost 50 pesos. We booked the 2.5hr( 3-4 spot tour) for 55.00 each.Non private, however there was only one other woman on the tour. I paid 20.00 deposit on paypal and the rest in US cash after our trip. Juan was our boat captain and Roberto was our guide. Roberto took care of our equipment( de-fogging our masks). We brought our own snorkels and used their fins. They did provide us with a bottle of water, but no snacks. Make sure you bring your own snacks because you will be hungry after all that snorkeling!! Juan helped us on and off the boat and Roberto was great showing us various fish. When we arrived back at the location, they provided showers. There are lockers for personal use too, but we bring our own "wet" bag. They also called a taxi for us and told the driver where we wanted to go for lunch. read more

We opted for the private tour was more pricey but definitely worth it a once in a life time but had so much fun will definitely be back. Nice boat with shaded area water and drinks provided. This is a must do! We only went snorkeling but it was so fun and easy! The fish and coral were pretty amazing. (taking time for scuba classes and staying 20' below for extended amounts of time for scuba wasn't of interest) But this place is like a private local experience where they will take you right out when your ready, not a big group or time you have to show up.. Wow - what incredible service. Pablo, the owner, was able to customize our entire stay at Isla Mujeres with all the activities we wanted. He was extremely flexible with all our dives and even helped us find an Isla Contoy trip last minute. Pablo's dive house (aka casa del buceo en espanol) also provides whale shark snorkel tours. When looking for snorkel tours, you can trust a dive shop who have strong swimmers, a focus on safety, and are fully licensed to bring people out to see whale sharks. We went snorkeling with Enqrique, a PADI certified Dive Master. We recommend getting as early of a start as possible. When we arrived, very few boats were around and we were able to see numerous (40+ whale sharks) swim right by us! If possible, a hot day is preferable as there will likely be more whale sharks in the area. Later that day, after a siesta, we went on an incredible night dive. We saw *ton* of wild life including sea stars, lobsters running across the ocean floor, an OCTOPUS, a few eel, sea cucumbers, and luminescent plankton. I've gone kayaking with a friend on San Juan Islands near Seattle, WA to see luminescence, and this was so much more incredible - you could see and feel the plankton floating around. Incredible! We also went on a MUSA dive and saw some incredible wild life. Pablo's team knows the right time to go, if you're flexible with time, to see the most wild life while ensuring you don't get crowded with too many people. They also know where wild life is often hiding; it's not a guarantee, but any advantage increases your odds of seeing the wild life you're looking for. My first yelp review because the experience was too good to not be shared! Neither my boyfriend nor I had ever been snorkeling and wanted to experience the reef around Isla Mujeres. After doing a little research we came across Casa del Buceo. Though there are MANY options for tourists, many of them bombarding you as soon as you step off the ferry, Casa del Buceo was an amazing experience! They are worth seeking out. Both of us were completely inexperienced and didn't feel ambitious enough for diving, but the snorkeling was lots of fun. As soon as you arrive at Casa del Buceo they are warm and welcoming. They explain what sites you can snorkel at and what's to be expected at each spot. Next they give you a rundown on the equipment and how to snorkel. All the equipment looks new and high quality (especially compared to what I saw some of the larger snorkel tours providing). They took the time to fit you with a pair of goggles you'll be comfortable in and give you lots of options. Next they take you out to whatever locations you picked out - no waiting around! Once they get you out on the water, they even make sure to let you have your own space rather than getting stuck around the larger groups of tourists. The reef was beautiful to see with lots of fish around! Overall, everyone at Casa del Buceo showed a genuine interest in providing the best experience possible. Hadn't dove in ten years, but i told them that I'm very comfortable in the water and would learn quick. So they gave me a refresher course and hooked me up. Enrique was a guide, he was amazing, super knowledgable, and I felt very safe with him. 1st day went on a 2 tank reef dive and had a great time. I brought my 14 year old daughter in to complete her open water certification as a referral diver. I met Pablo the day before, he was extremely nice, explained everything and got us fitted for gear. The next day we met the instructor Carlos. Couldn't have asked for a better guy! My daughter was so nervous. Her anxiety built and built on the boat ride to the dive site. When it came time to get off the boat and into the water, you could tell she wanted to back out. We got her in the water and Carlos held her hand while swimming to the buoy and on the line while descending, making eye contact and checking in along the way. As a mother, I was elated and grateful; knowing she was made to feel safe and how well she would be cared for. I highly recommend this great place and these wonderful people. We dive again tomorrow and who knows how many more times this week. I will go back to them every time while here on Isla Mujeres! read more

I first stepped through there doors five years ago to dive, snorkel, and swim with whale sharks with them, so of course it was my first stop on the island when I was back last week. Pablo will welcome you in and help you plan your expeditions around your time frame, crowds, and weather conditions to make sure you have the best experiences possible. Enrique will lead you on your adventures, cracking jokes and making sure you are making unforgettable memories. The entire staff is professional but incredibly fun to be around, and they make you feel like family during your time there. All of their equipment is top notch and feels brand new, and while they care about you having a great time, they always make sure you are doing it safely and without harming any marine life you may encounter (something many other companies don't seem to care about). Just got back from an amazing half day of diving with Enrique. Everything was above and beyond our expectations! Starting with a dry refresher with Pablo and then a wet one with Enrique that was incredibly professional and patient, even with my little panic attack... Then we went on 2 dives - one in a beautiful reef and the second one in MUSA which was incredible! Both dives were long and full and we really had time to see many things - Enrique really knows his way around and showed us some incredible things - an octopus hiding in a tube, jellyfish that disguise itself as seaweed, a snake in his hole and much more. We went diving two days and went snorkeling with the whale sharks. It was all amazing! Good equipment, good directions, good at spotting cool things to see. They also took pictures for us and were super helpful. When we were with the whale sharks I lost my fin (user issue, too excited to jump in the water) and the guide was watching me closely enough to notice and save it before it was lost. They also made us some incredible conch cerviche, fresh grilled fish, guacamole and lobster after our dive. I think you have to prearrange for food (added fee). read more

A fantastic experience! I had always wanted to try scuba diving and once I heard of all the amazing dive locations in Isla Mujeres, I decided to try it while on my vacation there. I signed up for the one day course which took about 3 hours. When I arrived Pablo went over gear, I watched a video, and then we practiced on dry land. After that I was out on the boat, heading to a place in the harbor area for underwater practice with Enrique. Enrique was a patient and skilled instructor. I only had a moment when I first jumped in where I couldn't get the breathing from a mouthpiece part figured out, but once I did, we went down about 20 ft and practiced all the exercises. After that our captain took us to the reef, about a 15 minute ride in rough water. We dove about 30 feet and I saw beautiful fish, coral, sea turtles, and a shark. It was awesome. We were down there for maybe 20 min until we were low on air and then we headed back up. I changed out of scuba gear and headed back to my hotel, exhausted and feeling accomplished! read more

I did 3 dives with these folks at Manchones Reef off the island of Isla Mujeres. The experience was phenomenal- the area was spectacular. We saw a sea turtle, 2 sharks, lion fish, eel, lobster, puffer fish, barracuda, large schools of fish, and so much more! Enrique was awesome- he took us to some great spots, found lots of cool creatures that we would've otherwise missed, and he made sure that we were safe. He was the best and he went above and beyond to make our adventure the best! Tony was a great captain and helper :) Lastly, Arturo was the one who first took us out- this guy is professional and really helped my husband who 1) is not a good swimmer 2) is not comfortable in the water 3) has never been diving 4) almost bailed on diving completely the morning of the first dive. Beyond incredible! Our family of 8, including a few who weren't avid snorkelers and scuba divers, had THE BEST experience imaginable with Pablo, Enrique, Carlos, Jesus and the rest of the staff at Casa del Buceo. Pablo, the owner, was so detail oriented, sweet, funny and professional that our 4 boys felt completely comfortable. Our 3 oldest boys took the discover scuba course, and I was amazed by how serious their teacher, Carlos, was with them. It is clear that it is safety first with this extraordinary dive shop, but they couple this will a huge dose of humor, fun and celebration of the beautiful ocean. Our snorkel master, Enrique, single-handedly taught our 9 year old how to snorkel in the open waters in a matter of 20 minutes. It was awesome to watch the profound level of care and patience Enrique took with our youngest. My husband and I are avid divers, and have been fortunate to dive in many parts of the world. I can tell you that this dive shop is extremely unique. One last awesome example. I asked Pablo if he would be open to providing a "local" lunch for our group after our snorkel trip at his dive shop. What transpired was our single, most delicious meal we had during our 8 day stay on the island. We arrived to a "Food Network" scene, complete with a table overflowing with the most delicious grilled, marinated fish, ceviche, hand-made guacamole, beautiful breads, cheeses, homemade tortillas, chips and salsa .... a total flash bulb memory that I would highly highly recommend.
