Beautiful location in Isla Mujeres at the very south point. We rented a golf cart and rode from North to South of Isla Mujeres which was a fun ride. Crystal clear water and great spot to visit while visiting Isla Mujeres. Lots of Iguanas roam this part of the island and there are several statues you can take pictures of. There is great ice cream for sale here that costs $2 each or 35 pesos. There is a public bathroom here but there is a man who sits beside the restrooms and charges 10 pesos for each person who needs to use the restroom. Pretty silly if you ask me but public bathrooms are rare on Isla Mujeres. Overall a great place to visit if you are on Isla Mujeres. 5 stars!

This was one of our stops on the island of Isla Mujeres as we drove around on our rented golf cart. As the name suggests, this is the "south point" of the island. We saw this place highlighted on maps and thought it was just a small viewpoint. It turned out that this actually a beautiful park. Punta Sur is surrounded by clear turquoise waters and is made of incredible winding walkways and cliffs. Though worn down, there is also a small Mayan ruin devoted to the goddess Ixchel. And there is a sculpture park with modern sculptures from many different artists. This place is definitely worth at least an hour of your time while exploring Isla Mujeres.

What a view!!!!! Clean, many walking paths, huge iguanas, beautiful statues, shopping, food... and you've got to walk to the end so you can go down the steps and walk along the cliff side. If you see an older man on a bike ice cream truck, make sure you get some!! If you're really want a treat you'll visit the churro cart and dip your citrus in his amazing ice cream. Lastly do NOT litter!! This place is right by the ocean and it's also an ancient ruin, be respectful.

Absolutely stunning. Get there before the sun is high in the sky. You only need pay (like 40 pesos maybe) if you want to walk down. If you have mobility issues just stay for free at the top great views there too! They have bathrooms, possibly a fee I didn't use them, a small gift shop, and a few street food vendors. I think there was a church and ice pop guy

Punta Sur has so much more to offer than I feel like the average visitor knows. Yes, the view from the top is awesome but what is below is even better in my opinion. If you walk towards the ruins and follows the trail, you can jump right into the sea. The water is beautiful and cool compared to the heat above. It's also cool to see all of the various ways the wind, sea, and salt have transformed the rocks. The food at the restaurant above is "American" at best but the service is very good. We didn't really indulge in much of anything there. Except tons of Evian. We thought it was a must see spot and were glad we waited out all the tourists before going on our adventure. Morning and mid day there are too many people, I just didn't feel comfortable on a cliff with all of the clumsy haha. Also, enjoy the lizards but be aware... they will bite and steal if they want something.

the southern tip of Isla Mujeres and the easternmost point in all Mexico. When I was planning for Isla Mujeres, I thought I ll walk till this point as it is 6 km, but luckily, I rented scooty and while going there I was glad, I rented, as it is not 6-7 km from a terminal. Better you rent scooty (for 2 people) or golf cart (more than 2 persons). On the way, you ll find Garrafón Reef Park, where zip line, snorkeling and other adventure takes place. Once inside you can explore the majestic cliffs, admire the brilliant blue ocean and wander through the sculpture park. There is also a Maya temple dedicated to Ixchel. The scenery is beautiful, and you'll also find a lighthouse, a sculpture garden, and the remains of a Mayan temple to Ixchel - plus a statue of Ixchel herself. Ixchel is the Mayan goddess of the Moon and of fertility, and wife of the Sun. Ixchel is the reason why Isla Mujeres is named the Island of Women: Mayan women used to visit the island on pilgrimages to visit and honor Ixchel. Her temple was built in this spot because it's the highest elevation on the Yucatan Peninsula, but it's since been destroyed by hurricanes. Also, there's a giant iguana statue. And some real live giant iguanas, too. In whole Isla Mujeres, I found this place more beautiful with postcard beauty. Once you've gotten your most instagrammable shots of the trip, hop back on to scooty and head back to town along the rocky east coast road -- lined with cliffs, crashing waves and the occasional roadside seashell stand.

Punta Sur! The most amazing, breath taking views ever! I felt as though I was inside of a beautiful painting. This place is everything. God is so good! Mother Nature at it's finest! I even got to take a picture with the Maya Goddess Ixchel! I had a wonderful experience here. It was a little windy, but overall fantastic adventure. So worth a trip! Thank you Punta Sur!

This place is magical. The sculpture garden, the trails (you can walk for a good hour or two here!), the ocean SLAMMING into the rocky shore... It does not matter that the temple is in ruins, this place is without a doubt a sacred, powerful place. There are so many different views and perches from which to fill your senses with the raw power of water and earth. Pay the fee. It's worth it. Or better yet, arrive before dawn, watch the sun rise out at the point, hike all the trails before the midday heat, and pay on your way out. This is the easternmost point in all of Mexico / the Mayan empire, which means it is, in essence, a sunrise theater. We came back 3 times: once for sunrise, once for high noon, and once for sunset... We also highly recommend walking the rocky dirt path along the east coast of the island... a breathtakingly scenic pilgrimage walk. The ruins are a temple to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of water and rainbows, of medicine and childbirth, of love and the moon... this is the "mujer" that gave Isla Mujeres its name. And do me a favor. Don't stack rock cairns. It contributes to erosion. It's not nice.

Beautiful southern point of the island, many well maintained trails. Go early for no crowds!

We had an awesome time visiting Punta Sur! The views were great and we could take our time exploring. Awesome site that should be on everyone's "must visit"!

Spanish lesson of the day: "Punta Sur" means "South Point" in English. Punta Sur is the southern tip of Isla Mujeres. We visited here in early March, before the COVID-19 pandemic. For lighthouse lovers, I'd recommend this place because they have a cute lighthouse that sits on a bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. It's also got a Mayan Temple ruins (Templo Ixchel), which may have been an ancient lighthouse. There are great views of the turquoise sea, winding paths that descend the rocks down to the tiny beach below; there are walking trails for those who like to enjoy nature. There's a charming restaurant that sits inside the park (although we didn't eat there, it looked nice); you can also find a Starbucks beneath the lighthouse. Like most people, we got here via rented golf cart (if you rent a golf cart, know your prices, because many will try to charge you double the regular price or more on this tourist trap of an island).

My favorite place on this island and maybe the whole planet. Come at sunset or at sunrise and leave your world behind

Wow, incredible views. It cost 30 pesos to get in, but cool paths that went down to the water. Beautiful spot. I heard the statues were great before the hurricane took them out

At this point, there is very little shade and you are exposed to direct sunlight. Be prepared by carrying bottled water, sunscreen, hats, comfortable walking shoes, and sun glasses! This popular attraction is built around Mayan ruins in combination with local modern art work and sculptures scattered throughout. Large remnants of an ancient temple reside on one end of the peninsula near a cliff. There are plenty of photo opportunities here! Numerous trails and even a cave can be explored, along with scenic views of the surrounding ocean. If it wasn't so hot out and we weren't so limited in our walking abilities, I would have loved to spend more time searching the trails. I'm sure we missed out on many more sights to see!

The most impressive…read morething about this site is when you think how difficult it must have been to reach this island off the coast of Cancun centuries ago. It is possible that this "temple" was merely a lighthouse, and that the actual Temple of Ixchel, the goddess of the moon, was somewhere else. When Hernando Cortez got here in 1517, the only inhabitants on the island were the priestesses of the goddess Ixchel, and that's how "Isla Mujeres" (Island of women) got its name. The temple and the surrounding cliffs and sea make for some beautiful and breathtaking views and incredible photos. I saw a review that referred to this temple as "a pile of rocks". Wow. Some people are really hard to please. In my opinion, this temple and the nearby lighthouse are the only things worthwhile on this otherwise overly touristy island.
