It's nice that a coffee shop opened up in the Otay Ranch/Eastlake area. I've been to this location around 2-3 times. There is a large open space where you can sit here and work or simply catch up with a friend or just simply enjoy your coffee. The empanadas are very flavorful just a bit on the pricey side considering their five dollars apiece My friend chose the banana matcha and I settled for an iced latte. Overall if you're in the area I would stop in. Parking can be a bit limited since it's in an area with a lot of apartments so keep that in mind. read more

Real downer, I think she wanted to go home because at 3:15 she went outside to take in the tables and chairs. We were planning on sitting outside in the sun for a little bit but I guess not. I tried the iced banana matcha with oatmilk and a regular iced matcha with whole milk. I enjoyed the matcha flavor here. The banana flavor does taste artificial like banana taffy but hey it still tasted good. The banana matcha was $8 with an additional .50 for milk upcharge so it was kind of steep for a cup of matcha. The regular matcha was a little bland and didn't taste any sweetness at all. The coffee shop was spacious and beautiful. The guy taking my order looked like he had something better to do. Parking is an inconvenience if you have to circle the block to look for a space or walk a block to get there. Definitely not a place I can get a quick beverage on the run. read more

It was delicious indeed and came with ceremonial grade matcha. I had them add a touch of honey and the matcha and honey flavors came out great. I had a large oatmeal cookie with it. The cookie was tasty and chewy. The acoustic are loud in this place. Voices bounce of the floor and and window covered building. However, it is a very nice trendy looking place with comfortable seating. The service at the counter was very nice. All the workers appeared in high spirits and good moods. My cup didn't have their logo sticker either, so it just looked plain, which was kind of a bummer since I wanted that Instagram moment. My friend liked her drink and rated hers an 8/10 - hers was on the sweeter side. I'd give my drink around a 6.5/10. If you're into sweeter drinks, this place might be more your vibe. We both ordered the Salted Maple Iced w/ oat milk. Price-wise, my drink was $10, which felt a bit pricey for what I got. I think I could find something better for the price elsewhere. Service was fine! They shared their most popular drinks, but when I asked about the specialty cold foam art I always see online, I didn't get a direct answer. When they opened this big location I was happy only walking distance from my home. Here I tried their Cortado and it was good. They have milk alternatives. Place is big and nicely decorated. I am so happy that Casa de Otay has a shop now! I would go to the their original shipping container location, but being able to sit down and have some food options is lovely. I love that Chula Vista is coming up with some aesthetic coffee shops. It could be the cute, open, high ceiling spot, tasty empanadas and avocado toast, or even all the visually appealing merch, but I do like this location better. As I mentioned, their avocado toast and empanadas are good! That is all the food I have tried, but the pastries look healthy and delicious too. Their birria empanada is my favorite, and it comes with a chipotle type of sauce for dipping, which is perfect! I've had the chicken one also, which is flavorful too. I'm so ecstatic there's a local family owned Cafe in the area. Parking might be a challenge but so far cars have been coming and going in the area. Beautiful aesthetic and a great meeting spot or even to study but you'd need some AirPods or headphones because conversations can echo. But lots of space inside and outside. The coffee and refreshment selection is great. I love the Vanilla Latte and pay a little extra for Oatmilk. I've ordered GreenTea Matcha before and both are tasty. I opted for their cold brew. Good. The chia seed pudding was a smaller portion than I was expecting compared to other cafes in SD. We hoped their raspberry tart had more filling. I can honestly say the matcha here is really good. I would come here just for that. However the coffee always falls short for me. I tried the vanilla bourbon latte and it was way too sweet and the after taste was sour. Also ordered a cold brew and after I ordered they said they were out of cold brew and offered an iced americano instead. That drink also missed the mark for me. I also didn't realize the price difference of the two til later and I wasn't offered a refund on the cold brew so guess I overpaid for what I got. read more

I got a matcha latte with a cream top and the sweetener was vanilla and it was really good but if you prefer like a balanced matcha that's sweet with a hint of bitterness then I would recommend getting the matcha latte without the cream top. The only complaint which was a personal mistake from me is that for me it was too sweet but I would just make the personal note next time to not have cream top on it. The service was straightforward and relatively easy the staff were super nice and got the drinks out in time. One thing to take note of though is that they don't take cash. I'm a regular at Casa de Otay and have visited multiple times - both the main Casa and the smaller Casita. This place has become my local go-to for coffee and provides an excellent quality option outside of the standard chains. What I Love: The service here is phenomenal - I'm always in and out quickly. They even have an app where you can order ahead and earn points, making them very competitive with bigger chains. While you may pay a little more than chain coffee shops, it's absolutely worth it and you're giving back to the community since this is a woman and family-owned business. Atmosphere: It's a great place to work, though it can get noisy inside. If you need to focus, I recommend bringing headphones or enjoying one of the outdoor seating tables. They've even added umbrellas to the uncovered patio, which makes the experience much better. Drinks: I'm obsessed with their vanilla bourbon coffee - started drinking it hot and switched to iced as the seasons changed. I love the latte art machine that creates fun designs on your beverages! I recently got into matcha and their strawberry matcha is fantastic. The new banana matcha on the menu is absolutely to die for. Staff: Latonya, the owner, is awesome! The staff is wonderful too - they recognize me when I come in. I order ahead through the app, walk to the front, let them know I'm there for pickup, and it's always such a pleasant experience. Only Con: Parking can be challenging if you're not local and can't walk there. People cross paths for a reason. Yesterday, I happen to, unknowingly, meet the owner and her kids on my way in. She stopped me and asked about my license plate (prompted by my shirt) and the story behind it. We talked for a brief, vulnerable, moment, then she offered to buy me a drink. It wasn't until talking with the barista at the register that I discovered who she was. My wife and I have been coming here, and the container, for a while now.
