I wish I could give this family owned business more than five stars. I was visiting my mom, who lives in the area and had seen this store for a while and decided to walk in and treat myself to an ice cream. What a wonderful surprise! The ice cream was fantastic, the toppings were not skimpy as in other places, and the workers and owners are friendly and ethical people. They aim to please. The one thing that really knocked me out was the cakes. I've been around for many years but I have never seen ice cream cakes decorated so beautifully. Normally they are all the same, boring cakes. These are just amazing and look like cakes you would get in an up scale bakery shop. In these days of big businesses and big box stores, it's refreshing to see a mom and pop store succeed. I went for a cake with writing and the writing was bad but the placement was worse (check picture). It wasn't centered and the store associate attempted to sell it to me without showing me the cake by putting it in a bag. When I shared my disappointment with the store the associate said the cake looked great. I received unprofessional service and inappropriate customer service. read more

The ice cream and shake we received were great. It was quite busy when we walked in. I know rush hour can put some pressure on workers, but my only concern is the way the manager spoke to his workers. Me and my mother both agreed that his attitude needs to be fixed. He speaks nicely to customers but not staff that are learning. That doesn't leave a very nice impression on guests. The place seems to be understaffed. He needs to be more patient. I love Carvel, been going to one every Wednesday all my life. Today I thought to try a carvelanche (even though it is part of the buy one get one like where I grew up) and got a large. The lady was good at remembering my order and was quick about it. However, I should have been charged a medium for the amount of ice cream I got. I feel cheated out of my ice cream, my mom's medium dasher had more ice cream than my large carevelanche. Might as well drive 30 mins to SI to get my ice cream at this point. read more

One of my favorite ice cream shops in Perth Amboy. This used to be a Rita's but for some reason they shut down and switched to Carvel. This place has a buy one get one free every day of the week which is pretty insane. My favorite special they offer is the Banana Barge Sundae, Ironically offered on Mondays, lol. For about 7 bucks your going to get two monsterous 3 scoop Sundaes with 3 of your favorite toppings. You simply can't beat the price and the quality. 2 Sundaes for 7 bucks? That's crazy. Depending on what time of the day you go, there might be a wait. The employees do a pretty good job of busting it down quickly tho. Worth the wait. Go Here! read more

$9.22 for a sugar cone with vanilla ice cream and a small sized cup with vanilla soft serve and peanut butter sauce. Really Carvel? I am appalled at how I keep letting you basically rob me. Not to mention that the service is slow and unfriendly. I must find a new ice cream place. I just came back from there, I've been going there on and off for years, and I saw a sign outside saying for a advertisement for a buy one get one free for a banana boat. When they wrang me up they didn't tell me they weren't going by the sign at all got charged full price, and when I asked about it all they had to say was they weren't going by their own advertisement and there was nothing they could do. Guess I'm going somewhere else next time I want ice cream. read more

Unbelievable!! First time I ever walked into this place and the last . First I dealt with Nancy (manager). I ordered a dasher . She says what kind ? I say what kind I want. Then she asks me again but what kind. ? And I repeated myself & then she repeats herself again . I didn't understand what she was asking me and you could tell she was Loosing her patience. I ignored it . Once I get to pay, I say " charge all " meaning I was going to pay for My mom and sister . She tells me " next time one family Per employee " I said " ok" then another employee which I didn't get her name said " you aren't paying separate ?" I said " no , all together " then she says " next time you have to let us know if you are paying together " with the nastiest attitude . Doesn't know how to talk to people and embarrassing me in front of people . No class . I said to her " okay you don't have to be nasty " and she said " I'm not being nasty .." then my mom said " yes you are !" Anyway, she kept running her mouth & then the manager says " this is stupid , I won't charge you for one ice cream " really ???? Where is the professionalism in this place ? Cake is good. Flavorful. A bit pricey but that's standard for carvel. Some of the best ice cream tho. The owner is a complete douch and has no idea what he's doing but he has some great employees which he should probably take better care of. Cool location and very community friendly. read more

What a great place for ice cream, shakes and sundae. The staff is so friendly. The ice cream flavors are yummy and my children went wild with the choices of the topping bar. They also have a place to sit and enjoy your deserts. Will be going there often with my family. read more

Horrible customer service! And especially from a manager! NANCY let's make this clear so no one has to encounter the embarrassment I went through with this lady! Well first and for most I came in looking for a birthday cake for my father. Looking thru a freezer found a pretty cake for a great price! As happy as I was I went over to an employee and asked if they could write on my cake and NANCY realizes the price on the box might have been mis marked so you would think she would turn around and inform me of the mispriced cake well no she went and scratched the price off the box in front of my eyes and proceeded to write on the birthday cake. When she brought the cake back to me and I took out money to pay she gave me a completely different price. I informed her sorry but the prize on the box did not match the prize she was giving me. Rather than her apologizing for the misprint she literally took the cake out of my hand and said if it's not in your budget you can give it back to me!!! Are you serious? There was nothing that got me more furious than this! Money was not the issue! You changing the price and not informing me that's the issue! Anyways I told her no worries I will pay the amount she had made up after scratching the sticker off the cake and nicely I told her maybe next time you might want to inform your customers of a change in price before actually writing on a cake. Well I guess before I can finish my sentence she had already walked away. Talk about customer service! And someone you call a manager or someone you trust in your business? Never again thanks for showing me the true colors of Carvel Perth Amboy! I will continue to go to Carvel in Avenel and hope to never encounter such an awful person.
