DDurston is one of the best service at the Carvel. He's very polite, helpful, and suggesting flavors and what you would like on your ice cream sundaes and he's very patient. Horrific experience. Will never go back Okay so I'm not usually one to put things like this out there but this is just too extreme not to share what I experienced this morning. I am actually still very shaken up about it but on friday night my husband went to the Middle Island Carvel in the king kullen shopping center to purchase an ice cream cake for my daughter's birthday party yesterday (sunday). He picked out the large, regular ice cream sheet cake out of the freezer (the normal vanilla and chocolate with crunches ice cream cake that we all purchased like a 1,000 times) and then checked out. Well yesterday when we went to serve the cake we noticed after cutting the cake and starting to serve it, that the bottom half was a chocolate peanut butter ice cream cake which we wouldn't have known unless someone took a bite. We only wanted the regular ice cream cake we had been serving for years. unfortunately both my daughter and nephew have a peanut allergy. My nephew has a severe peanut allergy and will go into anaphylactic shock with the slightest taste of anything peanut in it. Nowhere on the box was it advertised that this cake contains any peanuts nor had peanut butter ice cream in it (clearly it was a mistake-someone must have made the cake and put it in the wrong box). It was placed in a normal carvel ice cream cake box. Luckily and thank the lord, the cake was not ingested by my daughter or nephew although we had to throw out the entire cake immediately as we didn't want to risk anything. I had called the store to explain the situation and told them i would come in today to speak with a manager. Now this is where is gets interesting, i walked into the store this morning with a slice of cake and the box to show the manager that the wrong cake was put into this box. After explaining to the manager the situation she got very defensive and combative right off the bat and was nothing but rude to me. Yelling in my face, refusing a refund of any sort, she told me to go to hell and wished harm on me and this is the absolute kicker she told me " I am horrible mother for serving a peanut butter cake to my children" and ultimately banned me from the store. I was in complete and utter shock. I was nothing but nice to both managers and explained everything in a calm manner. There was zero remorse from either managers for this honest mistake someone had made. I have never ever spoken to like that in my life and I have never felt demoralized in my life. I couldn't believe my ears when she said that to another human being all because I was simply asking for a refund on a mistake they made. In the end, I finally got my refund and she literally threw the money at me and told me to get out. I have been going to this carvel for 11 years and never had this much disrespect from any business owner. I would have never bought the cake if i had known it contained chocolate peanut butter ice cream but there was no writing on the box saying so. Just putting this out as a Warning for others who may go there, some of these cakes may contain peanut butter ice cream in a normal box and you would never know it until is it too late. Horrible experience and i felt so degraded as a person from a mistake that they made that could have cost a child's life. This is no way to conduct a business. Shame on Middle Island Carvel. I was just in the store to purchase something yummy to bring to a game night get together. I picked out the ice cream sandwiches made out of 3 different types of cookies. The price marked was $13.99. The young lady ring me and told me the sale was $18+. I asked her how could that be. She and the other young man working there would not honor the price as marked. She said it must be an old sticker. If the sticker is old wouldn't the product inside be old too?!?! Lost a customer. read more

Worst experience ever. I love carvel but trust me you don't want to come to this one. Franchise operation whose owner is the biggest @$$hole you'll ever meet. Incompetent staff, but you can't really blame them as they are very young and poorly trained. I once bought a birthday cake from them as they had the iconic ones that you remember from your childhood and then tried using the coupons from that cake the following week and they refused to accept them. Both times I went, the store was a mess and that occasion where I did purchase the Ice cream I wound up having to throw it out. Trust me, use Friendlys take out or take the extra time to go to Ralph's in Miller place and Snow Flake in riverhead. read more

I've been generous in continuing to purchase ice cream cakes from this Middle Island store. I will no longer do so. The recent ice cream cake might have been frozen for months. It was awful. Had that frozen taste. Chocolate crunches were only on one side of the cake. The other side had a huge gap between vanilla and chocolate ice cream, See pics posted. We no longer go here and will now continue to go to Rocky Points location where not only the staff and owner are friendly, but they are also very generous with the toppings.
