Bullet points: - had to call out to get help - $42 for a small cake - phone never gets answered - cake wasn't fully ready when I picked it up When I walked in I looked through the cake design books they have looking for a Yoshi design. I figured by the time I was done the person I could hear having a conversation in the back would be available to help me. No, I had to actually call out "hello?" to which the disgruntled employee appeared. So sorry to interrupt your tea time. She wrote down my order and told me to email the store the picture I wanted then disappeared to the back again where I could hear her having further discussion with someone. After about 5 minutes of being left standing there (do I pay now? Do I pay when I pick it up? I had no clue what just happened,) she came back and rang me up. $42.99 for a small 6-8 people vanilla/chocolate with crunchies and design. Ouch. I decided the Saturday I had requested (5 day advance) was going to be busy so I tried to call to see if they could have it ready Friday instead. They didn't pick up an hour after I had left. They didn't pick up the day after. They didn't even pick up on Wednesday. Screw it, I'll make Saturday work. (The store isn't really close to where I live or I'd've driven over.) When I picked it up Saturday, the same disgruntled employee shuffled out from the back and then disappeared again to get the cake. To my surprise, the writing wasn't even done. (You had 5 days...) Maybe that's normal, idk. Thankfully she wrote out the happy birthday message quickly (and it shows, but I'd never be able to do that so,) and I was on my way. This is always a decent Carvel, we have gotten many many good cakes from here. I've never really had any major issues with the cakes from here. My SiL got my birthday cake from here 2 weeks ago! My only issue is with the price. I know milk is expensive, but $45 for a cake that feeds 8 people? It seems a bit excessive in price... The sizes of the cakes also seem to be getting a bit smaller... Or is that just me? Quality of cakes seem to be pretty good as well. Carvel tastes the same all over hahaha! I see that most of the reviews here talk about how terrible the owner is. I have not had the pleasure of meeting him. I have only picked up a cake from here once. My BiL and SiL that live nearby usually get cakes from here. While eating the cone, I noticed all the bad reviews this place has received. Most of the bad ones were when customers ordered a particular type of cake, be it an anniversary or birthday cake. I have been coming to this carvel since I was a child. They have never seemed to have more then 2 employees who I assume are the owners. I never have problems other than the extensive wait times I experience for the lack for customers infront of me. For example the other day I went in and was behind 2 customer who were ordering together. They got 2 milkshakes. There was only 1 person in working. AND the employee working took a phone call as well. I waited over 10 minutes just to be served. Not to mention the long line of people building up behind me. I love their icecream and it is one of the only places I can get confetti sprinkles. This is not an experience that will stop me from coming but it definitely is discouraging. read more

I came in on a Wednesday for a BOGO sundae and my husband and I usually do this every other week back where we used to live in NY. I ordered a birthday cake for my granddaughter's 8th birthday party. When I ordered it, I was given the price of $46.00 ( $36.00 for the cake and $10.00 for the picture on the cake). I left a $20.00 deposit. When I returned on Sunday to pick up the cake , I was told by the owner that I had to pay an additional $5.00 because I asked for Strawberry ice cream. 2 questions: why didn't the girl tell me that when she took my order? AND why is there a surcharge for strawberry ice cream? Anyway, I showed him my order receipt which showed the amount paid and the amount due at pick up. He just said- " sorry, I have to charge you". The surcharge should have been explained at time of order....not at pick up. If the girl made a mistake , the owner should have absorbed the five dollars. I should have refused to pay or get a refund but I needed a cake for my granddaughter's party. So he made 5 dollars but he lost a customer and got a bad review. Was it worth it ? read more

My husband bought me a birthday cake from this location. When we first opened the cake I noticed there was a tiny black hair on the top. It grossed me out but I just didn't serve anyone that piece. A few pieces into the cake and I found two more long black hairs, this time underneath the cake as I was lifting it up. The one hair actually had a follicle at the end. It makes me think it was purposely put there. I had to hold my vomit in especially since my 7 year old had just ate her piece. Will never step foot in there again. The Carvel by my house in Woodbridge ran out of the Turkey Gobblers the night before Thanksgiving. My kids had wanted them so bad and were upset with me for waiting to buy them. I called this carvel in Brick because it was right by where we were going for Thanksgiving. I explained what happened and how my kids were disappointed. The man was so nice and said he would hold them for me till the next day when we were coming down there. I know he took a chance by doing this because I'm sure there are times people do not show up but I was so grateful to him for doing this. I had some very happy children at Thanksgiving dessert . Worst Carvel ever - the owner is a complete greedy money dog. Charges you the regular price for your items but gives you HALF of the amount. His answer then was? "I don't have to follow the pictures, I can give you whatever portion I want to give you, you don't pay my bills or my rent". So if you are paying for a small, be prepared for a kid size cone. We really like this Carvel Store. Close enough to bike to. It is run by a husband wife team who have really reinvested their money to improve this franchise location. So I stopped into today 10/17 around 1pm to get my mom a birthday cake. Even though I'm a huge Yellow Brick Road fan, Carvel has more of a selection of ice cream cakes. This place is horrible. Horrible business owners. First off the place is filthy. The owner is always there working himself, sometimes with one or two of his family members. You think they'd take great pride but no. They are so rude. They don't greet anybody. They are SO SLOW. One time we had an event so we ordered a cake, when we went to pick it up in the middle of the day like we said we would, the door was locked with a note that said be back in five minutes. We waited 45 minutes knocking on the door and calling. Finally someone from the family came for the back room saying they were on lunch. Really?? You couldn't come out and just give us our cake. Trying to order a birthday cake for this weekend for my son's birthday. Both their website and Facebook say they open at 11 AM. I get to the store at 11:55 and see the door says they open at 12. So I wait about 15 mins. It's now 12:15 the door is still locked and lights are off. The only phone number listed no one answers and there isn't even a voice mail set up? Also can't place an online order for this location. Guess I'll be driving 20-25 minutes to another Carvel location, this place is a joke. okay so there was a baby chair against the wall, and while I do not have an infant on or inside my person, nor am one myself, I do appreciate their attempt to include all generations in the magic they are trying to scoop and serve. the place was sort of hot as fuck so I definitely need to check for ticks when I get home, and my ice cream is liquid and talking to itself. if my two wives weren't with me, I probably would've thrown my ice cream and myself at the glass to my side. i can only give this place a generous 2 stars but its honestly a 2.34 and I cannot afford to round up at the moment. at least I can say I had carvel today *mopes in waffle cone* read more
