Smooth, Painless Selling Experience with Carvana Selling my vehicle through Carvana was truly a painless and straightforward experience. My partner and I purchased our 2011 Ford Edge on 8/21/14 from CarMax in Laurel, MD, with only 19,879 miles. Over time, she became much more than just a car, and I later named her Jazzmine, a symbol of countless smooth journeys and great jazz along the way. Since 8/21/24, I had been receiving fluctuating estimates through the Carvana Value Tracker. This vehicle held a lot of sentimental value for me; it even carried my partner and me on a memorable 7-day holiday road trip in May 2024, traveling from Washington, DC through eight states (MD, DE, PA, NJ, NY, CT, MA, NH) all the way to Bar Harbor, Maine. When the time came to sell, I did my homework first. I contacted CarMax and two Ford dealerships, but their offers were far less favorable. Carvana ultimately provided the best and most competitive quote. After a few conversations with my partner, I decided to move forward and completed the online selling process on 1/19/26. The process was simple and efficient. I answered a few questions and easily uploaded my odometer reading (226,838 miles), reviewed the checklist, and electronically signed all required documents. Carvana also sent several helpful email reminders leading up to my appointment, which made it easy to stay on track. I sold Jazzmine early Saturday, 1/24/26. The drop-off appointment itself was quick and smooth, though I will note the location was not the most convenient for me (about 50 miles away - Gaithersburg, MD). One small hiccup: the ACH payment option didn't work for me through the portal, so I opted to receive a check instead. There were no hidden fees or purchase obligations. Kudos to Nestor, who was friendly, focused, and well-prepared. He answered my questions clearly, completed the process efficiently, test-drove Jazzmine, and even reminded me to return my license plates before canceling my insurance, a detail I truly valued. Overall, the experience was easy, transparent, and stress-free. And to be honest, I got a little emotional during the final moments. Even something as simple as removing the back license plate reminded me countless journeys traveled with Jazzmine alone and with loved ones including our fur babies. A great first time experience! I definitely recommend Carvana to anyone looking to sell their vehicle with minimal hassle, especially when parting with a vehicle that has meant so much.

I was pleasantly surprised with the ease of the entire transaction. Everything was done online and communication throughout the process was outstanding. The amount I received exceeded the quote offered by the big competitor. I paid a modest amount ($90) for car pick up, as the drop off location was over 100 miles away. If you are looking for a hassle free way to sell your car, I definitely recommend Carvana.

    Falsified inspection report.

I don't trust the Carvana inspection report, there is no way this car was "detailed." Every exterior seam and crevice is dirty--like it sat in the desert for a few months--the windshield has about four or five chips and cracks in it, and the cabin smells like the ashtray of a heavy smoker. It also did not get washed after transport because I had to scrub the dead bugs off the front and back. On the mechanical side, the rear differential leaks and the Carvana Warranty does not cover it.

Cracked windshield. They wouldn't even show me the car. I found it on the lot.

Bought a car online from Carvana. Drove 1.5 hours to Gaithersburg to pick up. Turns out car was damaged in transport from the hub to Gaithersburg. Windshield cracked. No calls to alert us. When we arrived, the manager, told us Carvana would not repair it. We could take it as is. Obviously we didn't. Called Carvana to cancel the sale and were told Carvana would have absolutely covered damage in transit. So disgusted we just canceled entire sale. The Gaithersburg Carvana is untrustworthy and I wouldn't deal with them again.

All headliner door handles missing, can feel the holes beneath the headliner, as sold to me by Carvana.

I was shopping around for a specific car and found one which had my ideal specifications from Carvana. As this one was labeled as "coming soon", I placed $100 to reserve the car once available. When the car was available, I had 48 hours to complete the purchase to keep my my reservation, however, the car itself became unavailable for me to complete the purchase, with the counter still winding down. With Carvana's AI assistant pretty much useless, I was finally able over a few phone calls on different days to get a rep. who relayed only that some work had to be done on the car and extended my reservation for another two days. Once available, I paid the $990 nonrefundable shipping fee and set up the appointment to pick the car up. The pickup process was fast and smooth and staff at the Gaithersburg location were friendly. This was the only positive of my experience. Over my first drive home with the car, I noticed a knocking noise coming from the car. I already pre-scheduled a 3rd party inspection during my 7 day return period, and brought this issue up at their shop. It turns out that the transmission was dangling freely and loosely, on the verge of falling off on a brace which was secured with only 1 of 4 bolts! The tech was able to bounce the entire transmission and connected drivetrain up and down with his hands with the car on the lift. Carvana boasts on its robust safety inspections and I cannot believe the sheer incompetence from their techs to miss something this obvious. The dangling transmission and mount was not covered with any underbody panel and would have been obvious for anyone to see if they had just simply looked at the car on a lift. My shop luckily found some bolts and remedied this on the spot. They also found other issues - grooved rotors which need replacing, the exhaust resonators were removed, the 2nd coolant reservoir was almost completely empty, an electrical compartment was missing its protective cover and intake mounting grommets missing. In addition, I found the cosmetic condition of the car was also much worse than disclosed on the Carvana listing, which only disclosed 3 chips on the bumper and hood and some wear on the seat bolster. Turns out that the entire bumper is completely peppered in rock chips not visible in the listing. There are huge scrapes in the paint along the entire underside of the passenger side bumper and side skirts. On the interior, the leather dashboard is warped and separating from the dash at 3 places, all of the grab handles are missing from the headliner, and the rear rear passenger lighting control switches are inoperable. What a complete joke of a condition disclosure policy by Carvana. During the 7-day inspection period I tried to mitigate these issues through their online claims process. For the brakes, I was given anautomated notice that brakes are not covered. For the engine bay issues such as the low coolant and missing electrical housing cover and grommets, I must take it to one of their recommended shops for them to look at and file a claim, so I am just ordering my own out of pocket. For the undisclosed cosmetic, I found that I was only able to submit up to 3 claims. I did and was notified that 2 of 3 would be covered. For these, I would have to make an appointment with 3 shops that Carvana lists on the claim. Of course, it turns out that one is out of business and the others do not perform the interior work which the claims are for, so I have to figure out how Carvana/Silverock will let me take it to a place who can. For the scrapes in the paint on the underside of the car, I will not be able to submit those due to the limit of 3 cosmetic claims. In summary for cosmetic issues, Carvana will not disclose nearly the extent of cosmetic deficiencies and you will only be able to submit up to 3 cosmetic deficiency claims. I have not been able to get past Carvana's AI chatbot and speak to a representative to ask if any remediation can be made with me due to the overall poor condition of the car they sold me. My car purchase experience from Carvana turned from one of excitement to one filled with regret, stress and disappointment. Constantly on my mind during the 7-day return period was do I keep the car after sinking almost $1,500 on nonrefundable shipping fees, 3rd party inspection? Do I return the car back to Carvana with the sheer audacity that I paid them a nonrefundable $990 and fixed the transmission for them, replaced some engine bay components and topped off the fluid for them so that they can sell it to another person? Folks, just don't purchase a car from Carvana and do this to yourselves. If you do, always perform your own inspection, ancitipate that the shipping fee is nonrefundable and that the car will arrive in much worse condition than listed with little to no inspection or refurbishment performed, and the claims process will not be effective during your 7-day trial. I hope your experience is better than mine was.

Horrible first purchase with Carvana, i bought a car and check engine light came on as soon as i got home, car has been in the shop, havent even been able to drive it

Last summer, I bought a…read moreconvertible that was hard to find here in the DC area, so I had it shipped through the Carmax network from a few states away. I knew going in that I would pay more at Carmax than at some other dealerships, but in the end, the extra cost (the shipping fee plus Carmax just being pricier in general) was worth it. My salesman, Marcus, was super nice and chill. I didn't feel rushed or pressured at all. The sales staff let me take a longer test drive than the normally allowed 20 min, and I appreciated their flexibility. After all, if I'm going to drop thousands of dollars on a vehicle, I need sufficient time to test drive it, visually inspect it, etc. I also appreciate the fact that Marcus and the crew did NOT drill license plate holes in my front bumper (the state my car shipped from does not require a front tag). He knew the car was looking sharp, and he guessed correctly that I would want to avoid drilling holes if possible (I found a magnet solution). He handed me my front tag as well as an order for Carmax tag installation if I changed my mind. That is good customer service. Now to the reason why I don't regret having paid a bit more at Carmax. My car ended up having two issues: an engine emissions issue (check engine alert) that required Carmax to update a couple of parts, and a paint bubble on the rear quarter panel. I'm thankful that I noticed both issues within the 90-day warranty period. For the paint issue, I brought the car back in, a service manager looked at it, and he said right away they'd cover the repair (either through a repair shop of their choosing or of my choosing). Again, I appreciated the flexibility. I was a little surprised they didn't write up paperwork promising to cover the repair, but sure enough, at the designated time, my chosen repair shop called the service manager, and the service manager made the payment. How about that? A handshake deal that came through. But seriously, Carmax, the paperwork route is the better one. Some pro tips: Make an appointment online. Unless it's a slow day like a Monday, do not just stroll in and expect quick service. I made two appointments (for two separate test drives), and a salesman greeted me within minutes of my arrival each time. Another tip: take longer than 20 minutes for your test drive if needed. They are flexible (and they do not ride with you during the test drive). I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because it's a bit disappointing to have to bring a new (to me) car in twice for repairs, but they did live up to their warranty. I'm also just a tad bitter that they offered me a low price for a trade-in/sale a few years ago, but, hey, I didn't have to take their offer. All in all, I would not hesitate to shop here again. You might pay a bit more, but at least you get a 90-day warranty. Some other local dealerships offer nothing after you drive off the lot. My only other piece of advice (not Carmax-related) is to shop Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) if possible. The particular car I wanted was too old for that kind of certification, so I went the Carmax route. Cheers.

I wanted it gone quickly, and with minimal hassle, so I called to see what they had to say. Over the phone, I was given a best case scenario price of $1900. Physically, my SUV was in decent shape, given its age. However, since the motor was shot, I was already prepared for the final offer to be a lot less. After a test drive and an assessment of the vehicle, the offer dropped by about half. The rep explained all of the work that would be required for them to repair the vehicle, prepare it for resale, and turn a decent profit. I appreciated him taking the time to explain the reason for the offer, and I liked that he was open to negotiation. I showed him my other offers and we negotiated until we were able to find a price that we both agreed was fair. After signing over the title and filling out a few other pieces of paperwork, I left with a check in-hand. The entire process took about 20-30 minutes. Actually, it only took so long because he had a hard time getting the front tags off and had to borrow a tool from a nearby AAA to finish removing them. I admit, I was expecting a scam, due to both the corny commercials and the extremely minimalist office space. However, it looks to me like they skimp on all the frills to be able to offer sellers the most money they can for their trade-ins. From my experience, I'd say it's an honest business, and I definitely recommend them to anyone who wants a quick and fair resale without all of the headache. I was nothing short of amazed at how easy this process was, how friendly the rep was, how easy he was to work with, and how quickly I was able to rid myself of this 3,174 lb nuisance.

Then came the delays: * 5/11 ( a couple of hours after the car is at the dealership): Tire will arrive tomorrow. * 5/12: Tire isn't here -- but guaranteed by 5/13. * 5/13: Still no tire, but promise tomorrow at 4pm.
