(Apparently they used to be a gas station long before my time) I Googled car repair centers, and the results included Childress Service Center. My repair was very minor and they had me in and out in 15 minutes flat! The woman I spoke to on the phone prior to my visit was so friendly. When I spoke with her in person she explained that the repair center is a family business, and she is the fourth generation! I thought that was pretty cool, and I love supporting small, local businesses. If I ever need a more serious repair, I will likely use Childress because of the awesome customer service. (I did meet one gruff, unfriendly mechanic when I pulled in, but hey - as long as their work is solid‍)

Broke down again in Richmond and towed it to a better shop in Virginia Beach who told us the wrong plugs were installed and charged us half the price. Childress didn't own the fact they put on the wrong part and refused a refund. Got a lot of ego. Called to replace a window and insulted my husband when he just needed a simple repair. They don't come to the door when you arrive. They have terrible customer service and they don't own their mistakes. Go somewhere else better and save money with people who do want your business.

We were from out of town and our vehicle broke down. It was late afternoon and the chances of…read moregetting a tow before the shop closed was unlikely. Don went above and beyond to provide assistance. He reached out to mobile repair services in an attempt to get us help on the road. When that was unsuccessful, he offered to stay late past closing to help us. The shop was already booked out 2 weeks for repairs so he had informed us that he could only diagnose the problem. We thought we were going to have to get a Lyft ride to the airport to get a rental car since all the other rental car facilities were already closed for the evening. However, when we arrived, Don and his mechanic, Jerry, were devoted to helping us to the best of their ability. They ended up determining it was a easy fix and rather than turning us away when they had already stayed past closing, they fixed the problem for us on the spot. He saved myself (and the 2 young girls I had with me) from being stranded in an unfamiliar area. In addition, he charged me cost (with no markup) for supplies that were needed and charged me minimal labor. If there were more people like Don & Jerry, this world would be a much better place. Their kindness was an inspiration to pay it forward. I recommend this shop above any other facility I have ever encountered over my 30+ years of driving!!

I actually spoke with the mechanic and he ended up giving me very helpful hints and a recommendation to a different shop for my specialized issue. Ok! How many people still have this kind of courtesy these days? I am going to their recommended shop, however, I most certainly will try them the next time I need honest help with a car issue. Over the years, as a female, I have had bad, over charged service and have learned to recognize a good shop that will help with one issue, vs. the places that do a diagnostics and suddenly have to fix everything under the hood. This sure seems like it is a Good Shop. They were helpful enuf to make me want to give a good review, so if/when I need a repair, I will post a follow up review. So based on this, I say give this shop a call and try them.
