My wife took our 20 year old Honda Element here for state inspection. They were quick, honest, and zero shenanigans. Highly recommended.

I was hoping to head off a problem before it became major. The next day they told me the transmission was shot and needed replacing and they had located a rebuilt one. The price seemed high so I said I would take it home and weigh my options. Immediately I noticed it would barely go into reverse. This was not an issue before. At first it would not go into 1st but eventually did. I barely got the it back home. They say they just did external diagnostic and nothing with the mechanics. I know there were issues but the before and after was astonishing. I can't be 100% but I also can't rule out that they made sure I would need a rebuild. Also I asked why they could not rebuild in house and they said they are only capable to do 4 speed not my 6 speed automatic. This place left me with a very bad feeling. Another thing after they realized they were not getting the work they told me that they would suggest scraping the vehicle due to some smoke from tailpipe on starting cold. This was never the recommendation when they thought that they were getting the job.

Unfortunately, I had an identical unpleasant experience this time as I had with the previous vehicle when the first AAMCO repair did not resolve the problem. However unlike the first vehicle, the second repair on this vehicle didn't fix the transmission problem either. Nor did the third AAMCO repair- each one taking a week or more, requiring me to find alternate transport, etc. In exasperation, I finally told them I would like to just take my car to another (non-AAMOC) shop. They agreed and ended up paying for the repair there which was done right the first time. (Shocking!) AAMCO -- Never again.

Ronnie Hanson assured me that he could rebuild the transmission and he even pulled the "God" card. Told me that God was looking out for me and he could do it for $2,400.00. I fell for it hook line and sinker. The day the truck arrived at McCarty's, the price jumped to $3,000.00. That should have been my first red flag. He told me it would take 5-6 days. A month later, he released the truck back to us and watched my 18 year old son drive off in a VERY UNSAFE vehicle. He told my son that the transmission needed to reprogram itself and it would take about a week and to NOT worry about it jerking into gear. On the way home, every light in the dash board came on. I took it to another shop and spent an additional $600.00 to fix a problem that was not there when we took the truck to McCartys. The mechanic that fixed this issue, said that he did not feel comfortable with an 18 year old boy driving the truck that way, so he, the new Mechanic drove it back to McCarty's where is sat for 6 months. Every day, Ronnie would lie to me, my boyfriend and even my brother in law and say that he was working on it or waiting on parts. We asked for our money back and and the truck back and he would not give it to us. On July 11th, I received a call from Hampton Chevrolet asking what I wanted done to my truck. The truck was completely dead. Ronnie had the truck towed there and dropped off after hours without ever speaking to anyone. After that, and over night, he sold everything in his shop that wasn't bolted to the ground, shut the doors and went into hiding. WHAT A COWARD! I filed a civil suit and a judgement was ordered against him. I advise all of you that were scammed by this "God loving man" to do the same! At some point, it should turn into a criminal suit! Ronnie Hanson, you are a con artist and I don't know how you sleep at night. I have personally spoke to 5 other people that have been scammed out of thousands of dollars by him! I don't have to worry about anyone else taking your vehicles to McCarty's since he closed up shop. But I can pray everyone does their research and doesn't fall for the Ronnie Hanson scam if he starts doing business on the side or God forbid, opens another business! On the occasions I saw Ronnie in person, he smelled of alcohol. Be careful!

Picked it up and paid and then it was having the same issues with shifting as we were having before we dropped it off. The owner told us we needed to take it to the Jeep dealership to get it flashed. Paid the dealership $200 and it didn't fix the problem. Took it back to the shop. Owner said the new torque converter went bad. Finally ready for pick up April 2022. On the way home from the shop on the James River Bridge the transmission starts smoking and completely stops working leaving me stranded on the bridge. Have it towed back to the transmission shop. Owner says he needs to put a different transmission in it . Every day we call he promises it will be done and gives some excuse why it isn't. Last week he said it was ready and that he was taking it to the Jeep dealership in Hampton and gave us the name of the service representative he's working with. Spoke to the owner yesterday and he said he hasn't heard from the dealership yet and that's why it's not ready. Called the dealership and they said the jeep has never been there and they haven't done business with him since 2022. Shop phone has been disconnected and he hasn't answered his cell phone. I do not believe anything he says. I doubt the transmission was ever rebuilt or replaced to being with. He has our jeep and $3000 we paid for the transmission. Please do not use this shop. We are going to have to get legal involved. Dishonest, unprofessional and doesn't know how to fix transmissions. I wish I had read his reviews before I ever took the Jeep there to begin with. It looks like I'm not the only one this has happened to. :(
