We played after several days of rain. The course was in good shape and my wife and I played 18 holes in a little over 3 hours. The only thing that is odd about the course is getting from the 9th to the 10th hole. For a first timer - they may not know to get back on the road and go toward the club house to find the 10th hole. read more

I believe it is time to update my last review. I have played here on several occasions since my negative experience. My friends and I played our annual 9 holes on thanksgiving morning. We had the pleasure of working with Lucas, he was professional and polite! A few weeks later I was helped by Tom. He was very friendly and allowed my group to go out on our preferred back 9. So I golfed at this golf course multiple times and have always been treated amazing! But today that was not the case. LUCAS was extremely rude not only did he not want to rent us another cart but pushed our tee time back an hour. Shortly after that he came out and accused me of drinking alcoholic beverages in front of friends and family. Made me feel extremely uncomfortable and targeted. Staff at the pro shop was weirdly standoff-ish and slightly rude. We were there on memorial day, 15 minutes early for our tee time. Started our round and when we hit the turn after 9, came inside to grab some snacks and they had no one working the snack bar. It's the second time this has been the case, the first time they did have some small grab and go items we opted for but this time there was nearly nothing to choose from. Based on the little experience I have had on Nevada golf courses, or Nevada in general, I would say that they are generally dry, with the out of bounds filled with dry bushes or other desert-like plants. This is similar to Arizona, where if I hit it into the rocks, cacti, or thorny bushes, I just leave it and drop another ball. Carson Valley Golf Course contradicts this notion. There is water on 14 of the 18 holes. Part of this water is from the East Fork Carson River but most of the water hazards are from the canals, sloughs, and tributaries that peel off from the river and feed into the cattle ranches in the surrounding area. Many of the canals have old, manual floodgate openings that help the ranchers moderate the flow of water to their fields. It almost feels historical. In addition to water hazards, there are trees, bushes, and houses dotted all along the holes. We golfed on a windy day. After a horrendously windy golf outing the previous weekend, we were hesitant about experiencing an afternoon of gale force winds again. After a few hours of that, we were hoping the wind would pick us up carry us away. Fortunately, there were enough trees along the Carson Valley Golf Course to stop most of the wind. There were only a few holes that were slightly uncomfortable. My wife even had her best score on a legit 18-hole course: 137. read more

First off, we love this golf course. It's beautiful, accommodating and always a great time. We go at least once a week. The reason I'm writing this review is because I want folks to be aware of a certain individual who works there. The first incident occurred a couple months ago when we were headed to the second half of the course and stopped at the 711 that is right next to the course before you cross the street. This is a common spot for folks to stop and get more ice, beverages and maybe a snack. An individual in a car stopped and said do not drive my golf carts off the course ever again or I'll report you. I didn't know who this person was nor did he introduce himself, but he was extremely confrontational. Fast forward to today my husband and his three friends were set to tee off at 12 o'clock. I ran to the same 7-Eleven as it is close by and grabbed some ice and drinks for them before they started. They met me in the parking lot next to the golf course. As soon as they got to the first hole, an individual pulled up behind us and said immediately you can't golf here for free we turned and asked what do you mean? It was the same person as before. He accused us of golfing all the way to the ninth hole and starting over at the first hole. We explained that the boys had picked me up with ice and beverages for their game and we had let the folks go ahead of us because we were behind by 10 minutes. He asked us several more times and continue to accuse us of not paying to golf and then in a very condescending demeanor and his condescending laughter said he was kicking us off the course, this was after he asked why does it take all of you to pick up your wife. we have golfed there for over a year multiple times a week and I've never had a problem with this gentleman, my husband asked him are you the Marshall? He said I'm better than the Marshall. Come to find out, he's just a mechanic. He harassed us and belittled us the entire time at hole one, and then ended by saying that that's it, you're off the course. If they want us to continue to golf there I would consider firing your Marshall/mechanic who chases people down, who are paying customers and fans of the course because he is bad for business, just a thought. By the way, he said he owned the golf course the first time he confronted us about stopping at 7eleven, but doesn't seem like that's the case. read more

I used to love coming to this course it's easy for beginners so this is where my husband and I learned to play. Unfortunately today it was not that experience. When we checked in Lucas was hostile from the beginning. Our friend joined us and he put him with another individual. Our friend didn't feel comfortable riding with another person. So we tried to rent another cart and Lucas said no even though there was 5+ carts ready to go at all times. Lucas eventually agreed and he set our tee time an hour. During this time Lucas showed no customer service to us. We were waiting outside and we had an energy drink. I went to the bathroom and Lucas came out to accuse us of drinking while sitting in the cart. He sat there and scolded my husband and our friend about drinking in front of other customers. Since we felt very targeted and Lucas not having a basic understanding of customer service. We decided to get a refund and leave since we were very uncomfortable being there. When we were up there trying to get our refund and Lucas continued to bark orders at us. So we just ignored and left. Unfortunately we will not be coming back to this establishment. read more

Has been one of my favorite golf courses since I started playing. Unfortunately today was the worst experience I've ever had anywhere! We plan our vacations around golf, we do our best to get the first tee time even if it means getting up at 5 am because we play fast. Today we were the first ones there and we had the first tee time. We were told we had to wait until 2 groups went first. Luckily the first two guys let us play through on the third hole we caught the first 2 people on the fifth hole. I totally understand letting locals who play fast sneak in but the fact we were told to wait so they could go. I have never been treated so poorly at a golf course!! read more

Everyone makes you feel important and valued. In a few visits you're on first name basis comfortably. A great course for juniors & experienced golfers too. Though not a long course, it will prove tricky to most duffers. The food is real good, the beer is real real cold and the atmosphere is always upbeat. Dan D'Angelo is one of the best instructors I've encountered. I've worked at several courses, I've asked for lessons before, I've seen Lots of Golf instructors. My group went on Tuesday and Thursday for 18.round of golf. This is a very interesting course going through the woods, meadows and residential area. Almost like mini golf on steroids. The course is challenging and fun to play. Just make sure to check you're not being followed by women or men's club. Also check weather as it we were delayed 30 minutes due to frost. Our tee time was 7am. Have fun and enjoy the game and scenery. read more

Had Special Date Nite Italian Dinner here in the Club House. My Pork Roast Slice was large, but 1/4 inch of Fat on it. Appetizer, Antipasto, served at same time as meal, which was not ready on time. Focaccia Bread was excellent as was the Mushroom Risotto and the Dessert. Salad was very bitter. Chef was extremely friendly and genuinely wanted to please us. Awesome golf course! Weaves back and forth over a creek which makes for a challenging course. Fairways and greens are well manicured, and surrounded by beautiful trees. staff is very friendly and helpful. We live in South Lake Tahoe and play here several times a year, best course within 40 mile radius from Tahoe. read more

Quaint community course. Not well kept. Incredibly slow pace of play if following the "Men's Club". When asked if there was a marshal to assist with this, I was told "We don't push the men, they are members." Hmmmmm. I paid to play golf just like the men and it took me well over four hours to get through 18 holes. Ridiculous. read more

My husband and I played here twice during our week in South Lake Tahoe. Everyone, including the grounds crew, were unbelievable friendly, plus the weather in Gardnerville was much better than in Tahoe (mid-September). The golf course was in beautiful shape and was challenging with its many water hazards. We had lunch in their small restaurant, and Gordon Ramsey would be impressed with how clean the chef kept his kitchen. My friend and I had the opportunity to play this absolutely lovely golf course today and were so thrilled to find the customer-centric management team, more particularly Bo, to be absolutely wonderful and accommodating. We rented our clubs which were new and top of the line, had a great lunch at a very reasonable price made fresh as we watched. The course is incredibly beautiful with great tee options, fun bridges and tunnels and an amazing array of wildlife including chipmunks, quail, geese, a variety of birds and a beautiful doe. We highly recommend this facility and considered it to be a hidden jewel. read more

Fun little course! Maybe a little pricey considering how short it is. But when I played in September the course itself was in decent shape and we enjoyed our round. You do cross the street twice and the signage could be a bit better. Anyway, you get to play a lot of iron shots and it's definitely a shot-maker course. Skill with your 7-iron and wedges will do you better here than a monster drive. I don't play much golf anymore but I can tell you opening with a par 3 and finishing with back-to-back par 3's is a nice fit for my game these days--gives you a chance to warm up with a short iron shot and then wind down with two short holes. At this point in my life, there's nothing better than two shots at birdie to finish a round as opposed to needing a big tee shot on a 530 yard par 5 #18 when all you really want to do is get a beer! Anyway, I like the track and will definitely play here again. read more

This course has a crazy first hole! Par 3 but you need to wait for traffic to clear. Crazy. You actually have to Drive on the very busy road to get to the back 9! We were so confused. It was not clearly marked. The course was interesting but I did not appreciate the fact that our free lunch had to be ordered before the grill closed at 2:00 which meant our lunch was cold by the time we got to the clubhouse. A cooler would have been nice too instead of a bag of ice melting. I did enjoy the deer on the second hole! read more

I've played Carson Valley a few times now so I feel it's fair to write a review. One of the first things I noticed is how friendly this course is to golfers of all skill levels. They don't have a strict dress code, which I think is great and really opens things up to all people. Coming onto a strict course as a newbie can be very intimidating. Every employee I've dealt with has been friendly and helpful. Pricing is very reasonable. Most courses I've played have been $75+ for a round. If you're a local and you plan on golfing a few times, then you should definitely sign up for the membership! It's a fantastic deal at $49! (At time of this review) Most holes aren't very long, but they do have their fair share of hazards that make the holes more challenging than they seem. I recently had a couple lessons with the new golf pro Dan, and my golf game has improved drastically! (After golfing for 10+ years) His methods of teaching are easy to understand and he's very thorough in making sure you understand before moving into the next thing. And price on that again is very reasonable. Also they have many different clubs and events they put on that bring the community together! To conclude this long review.. if you are a new golfer, a family looking for some family friendly fun, someone looking for a well priced place to play and practice, or a tourist in the area looking for a few hours of good fun for a great price then check out Carson Valley Golf Course! read more

This review is on the Friday lunch. First off, you can only order from about 1/3 of the menu and can only got potato salad, cold slaw, or fruit with it not French fries as it says on the menu. Second the fruit we got was a pleasant surprise that it was strawberries and blueberries (not filler fruit) but it covered in mold. We both ordered chicken sandwiches, they were good, but the chicken breast covered less than half of the bun, and the couple who ordered chicken before us both returned them as they weren't fully cooked. Overall, fine, but I'd rather eat at McDonald's. The golf course was good for the money though, just lots of water on the front 9. read more

Live and mostly play in the bay area, but always make the 20 minute drive to this place when I'm in Tahoe. The Carson river winds thru it which eats balls from mid to high handicappers. It can play to 6400 yds. The greens can be rough in tperature extremes. Generally easy to get on and walkable if you're in average shape. read more

Older course. Somewhat short and flat but has some water and sand to mix things up. Some holes seemed to be squeezed into the layout. The course is in good condition but the corse is no where worth the price of green fees when you can play much better courses such as Dayton and Silver oaks for about the same money. The greens are not elevated and old style.The design is not really much of a challenge. read more

We have been to this course more than a handful of times because of the convenient location to home and it's never been a pleasant experience when she's the one behind the counter. First things first, their web site shows a $35 round cost, but in fact they also charge $14 a piece for a cart fee. $49 for a round for this course is way too pricey, given it is a so-so Muni and well south of Carson City, and in Nevada. The course is short but, if you want to get practice on your short game you may like it. We found it fairly wet (10:40 AM) which isn't an issue, but there are no ball washers. There is no course management period, actually. We never saw a Marshal in the entire 18 holes. We played on a Saturday so we expected a bit of slow play but not as bad as it was. On the front, some of the fairways are not separated at all. They won't allow you to drive the cart to your car in the parking lot (they claimed insurance issues), yet we had to drive the carts on US395, in a cart lane, then through the parking lot of their restaurant to get from the front to the back nine. Customer Service doesn't appear to be a priority. Finally, the woman who checked us in was anything but friendly. We didn't feel welcomed at all, more like "what do you want?". She stopped us as we were loading our carts because we had a cooler. I asked why. She said that we weren't allowed to take alcohol on the course. I advised her it was water and Gatorade. She didn't care, she said we had to unload the cooler. I advised her it was going to 90', and asked her how we were going to keep the drinks cold. She said they would give us a container which turned out to a plastic bag with a hole in it. The course restaurant employees were very nice. In short, it's long way to drive to pay too much to play a course that isn't managed and employs a rude greeter in the Golf Shop. Stay in Carson City they have a number of nice courses with people who understand customer service, and focus on their courses. read more

Had a t time with the entire family. Made it very clear we had two riders The guy on the phone said no problem. We show up and they send us away !!!! First time and last!!!! Genoa lakes treats us with respect and allows our family to be together with no questions asked. Never again. We are locals and will never recommend to anyone. This is a wonderful golf course. The Maintenance crew at Carson Valley Golf Course does a phenomenal job keeping it GREEN and BEAUTIFUL. With the major improvements being done on the course such as the newly rebuilt bridge that paths the carts from hole 3 to 4, to the gorgeous newly planted trees throughout holes 1 to 18. The sails that were put up on the driving range provides excellent shade as well as the outside dining area with misters to cool off in the summer. The proshop employees are excellent as well. The proshop is always clean and very well organized. The employees have excellent customer service skills and know exactly what they are talking about when it comes to selling product. They always have a positive attitude and awesome smiles. This course is so welcoming to the public and makes me feel like I am a part of them!! With the 3 other courses in the arean Carson Valleu Golf Course is my home course. I am very proud to rate this course 5 stars and i definately WILL be back! That was fun. Came to ski but the snow wasnt great so the front desk recomended this course. The sky couldn't have been bluer and thought the grass wasn't green yet a fun course. Nice folks. We will make sure to come back in season to see it with green grass and all the trees in leaf. read more
