No dogs allowed. I was surprised to see the sign not allowing dogs. This is probably the first park I've seen that doesn't allow pets. This is a nice park otherwise. A lot of space so even if it was crowded, there wouldn't be an issue finding a spot to enjoy time with friends and family. There were very few people at the park on this Saturday afternoon and last weekend before school starts. The air quality from the fires likely kept people away.

This was our second year coming to the Nevada State Fair here. Having grown up in Sacramento with the CA State Fair, it's hard to call this a fair. To me it's really a small carnival. It mostly consists of some rides and food booths, a few craft and trinket booths, a little area selling items from the old west era. The setting is ok however with nice grassy areas for parents to sit and watch. We always buy an unlimited wrist band on Groupon for $15 (instead of $30) which makes it reasonable, and we take the kids for an end of school year celebration. If you go on the early side, it's less crowded and I round recommend that if you have younger children. In the late afternoon and evening, you get more teens and a more rowdy crowd and much longer lines. There are some old park bathrooms available that are in need of updating and they add portable bathrooms for the event. If your kids like carnival rides like ours, it's probably worth it but that's pretty much all I would go for, unless you need a greasy carnival food fix.

Great location, big park, benches, grass to chill, watch from. Not far from CC Wheelhouse skate store.

The boys both 12 had a blast trying out their scooters at Mills Park! The Wheelhouse a really awesome Carson skate shop had just tricked out their scooters and they rode like a dream! I highly recommend both places, first The Wheelhouse for the items you need to make your skate or scooter go fast and make those radical turns, then head over to Mills Park in Carson City. Or if heading to Gardnerville try out Lampe skate park which could be the best park in the area. Its just off the main drag with parking close and full view of the park, a grass park nearby as well as restaurants, coffee shops, fast food, gas and quick stops.

Invited by a friend to go to the park. Had never been here before. Its a nice park. Lots of grassy area's as well as pleanty of shade from huge trees. Very clean, except for the animal poop on the sidewalk. They have a train to ride that cost 2$ a ticket or 3 for 5$. Its a nice ride through the park. Though there was some sort of fitness event going on there still was pleanty of parking. The bathrooms were even very clean which was wonderful. Nicely stocked with t.p.

Mills Park is great. It's even greater whenever there's a state fair here. We can have hours and hours of entertainment for the weekend.

We ended up riding the train, which for $2 a person is a great deal!

Google maps shows this park as "Spooner/Oxbow Park", but don't let that fool you it's true name and…read moreit's history, is much more mysterious. According to the historical marker placed at this site, "In 1902 Marion Jefferson Blackwell purchased 360 acres from the State of Nevada, 556 acres of adjoining land from Sweeney's Hot Springs and a lot with a house. He raised carp and catfish to sell commercially also hay and horses. Neighbors used the ponds for swimming and ice skating. Born 1847, in Hall County, Georgia he married Nancy Amna Mayes in 1866. While living in Jamestown, California his wife died. He then moved the family to the Carson Valley near Genoa in 1895. He married Martha "Mattie" H. Willey in Yerington in 1899, then moved to Eagle Valley in 1902. He resided here till his death in 1914. His descendants continue to live in the area." Besides its rich history, the park is a small neighborhood park with a covered picnic area, a small playground, and a--I want to say walking path but it's not because it literally goes no where into the grass (srsly why is this here?), so we'll just say--some concrete. Although it's now just mostly a manicured lawn, there are still remnants of the pond in the form of two sloughs that flank the park. Cattails and blackbirds abound! Be careful where you step here, because it's difficult to discern where the ground and water meet. Also, apparently someone was murdered here in 2016 over a drug deal done awry. So, maybe avoid the place at night.
