I purchased my vehicle from them end of 12/2025. Three months later, a couple of weeks ago, the engine light comes on. I contact Jose and he tells me to call the warranty company. I call the warranty company and they say take it to the dealer to do a diagnostic check and start a claim. I let Jose know but he tells me to call his brother Leo, who also was there when I bought the car. Leo keeps telling me to take it to any mechanic and they can start a claim. I take it to one mechanic, he said he's dealt with Protective and doesn't want to deal with them and didn't think any other mechanic would either. He told me go to the dealer that sold you the car, he hasn't even looked at my car, just refused. I took it to another mechanic to get a diagnosis check to see if the issue is even covered because I needed my car fixed and was going to just do it myself. When the mechanic checked it, he said the boot was taped instead of replaced. He said that is very dangerous, he could not believe they sold a car like that. He said the part is only $80 and a quick fix but he told me go back to the dealer, he needs to fix this for free because he should've never sold the car like that, it should've been repaired first. At this point, Jose and Leo do not respond to my texts or call. I contacted the warranty company but they're saying they can't get involved in issues between the dealer and buyer. These guys are not honest and will tell you whatever you want to hear to make sure you buy a car. I do not recommend buying from them.

I was given 2 "loaner cars" which were disgusting - the first one had ash everywhere and also had a check engine while they "worked" on the car I bought. Then the 2nd loaner - they tried to have make me switch cars so they could sell me a car that passed smog but it wasn't the car we wanted... he kept postponing delivery. I went through 6 months of promises before I called the bank to cancel the agreement and return the loaner. The owner signed a contract to return my deposit within 30 days. And nothing. I am taking them to small claims. I should have known better when I walked in to a disgusting office with ash and files and trash everywhere. They took my $6000 deposit- sold me a lemon, signed a contract to cancel and return my deposit, and then kept postponing my repayment. I'm literally in the process of filing a complaint with the BBB and small claims. The bank had no issue canceling my loan AS THE CONTRACT WAS NEVER FULFILLED. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE SCAMMERS!! THEY STOLE MY $6000!!!!

I was looking for a very specific van on-line, and they had one. It's a popular van, there are lots of 2018's out there, so it was easy to compare prices and miles. The one they had was low miles and priced competitively. It looked just like the one I test drove in Burbank the day before. Exactly the same - same features, same racks, same color and everything - but - for less money. So I called to confirm the van was there and the price was what I saw on-line. They confirmed it was. I even asked for a total price including tax, dealer fees and all charges so I would know everything before I arrived, and I was given that information over the phone. I wanted to know that in case there was a discrepancy later. That made me more comfortable, so I made the long trip from Glendale down to Torrence by ride share. When I got there I was greeted right away. I took the van for a test drive, and it was just as described. I liked it. I decided I was going to buy it. We get back to the show room, and I sit down with Peter G. and I show him the pre-approval letter from my bank and who we need to call if there are any problems. Now I am expecting the usual hard sell; for warranties, Gap Insurance, undercoating, over coating, inner coating, winter coating - the usual. But no, nothing. Instead we are having a nice chat about this and that while Peter fills out the paper work. He doesn't try to sell me a thing. He is just getting the paper work ready while my van is being prepped, and we are having a pleasant time. I was waiting for the other shoe, but it never dropped. I read, I sign, I initial, I get the key and I am off. It all went very quickly. I was pleasantly surprised. This has never ever happened to me before. And when they emailed the paperwork to my bank, like they said they would, they Cc'd me so I'd have a copy. The van is great, and my experience with Peter, Gumby and Jules was really great. I can't speak to all the other reviews I saw here. I was hesitant to come all the way down to Torrance because of some of them, but I took a risk. I thought if the van is there, and it's as described, then it is just what I want, and I was prepared to deal with some BS. But there was NO BS, NO problems, and no hassles. Just the van I wanted and a great experience. I'm probably going to drive this van for the next ten years or more, so I don't know when I'm going to buy another vehicle, but when I do, if I am still in LA, the first thing I'll do will be to call South Bay Pre-Owned. I was in a really rough spot and needed a reliable car to get from 1 job to another. I had serious credit issues and was really trying to get something started and after being turned down by so many dealers this place gave me a chance. I bought my 2008 scion XB with 140,000 miles and paid fair market value. The best thing is that the car came with warrantee, plates, registration, tags & smog. Amazing especially considering the age of the car. I bought this car back in September and just paid it off this month. Yes I paid it off in 5 months. My payments were just under $500 monthly. I worked so hard to ensure I could pay double to triple payments when I could plus placed a good down payment. When I made my final payment the title was already waiting for me with my name and everything. I cannot thank this place enough. If you have challenged credit please give this place a chance. The owner is fair, honest & one of the most coolest, relaxed people I have ever met & will try his best to get something done. If you have challenged credit please be open & honest about your situation and pay your payments and find comfort in knowing from my experience that this place will do its best to get you where you need to be.
