First impression: This place is easy to miss if you're not looking for it. it is nestled right next to Campfire, and it is a great spot to wait for your table to be ready if you are having dinner there. The vibe is modern and industrial. The Wine: I only had time for one glass, so I had the Pinot Noir Rose because I thought it sounded unique. For all of the wine buffs, I cannot give a detailed description. It was crisp, fresh and delicious. I would order it again. The Service: Our server was courteous and attentive. I was very happy with how we were served. Overall: I plan on going back here again when I have more time to taste. Turned off immediately when entering. Big sign at the door "Masks required to step in." Masks are not required once you sit down. I'm fine with that. WHAT I'm not ok is: Additional Sign Outside at Entrance MASKS $10. People go in and spend big bucks at this overpriced wine tasting place and Carruth's are too cheap to give out .25 cent disposable masks to people that don't have them. I have no idea what the quality is of their $10 MASKS but the disposable cheap masks would work out just fine for your 20 foot walk to the table. Basically you are paying top dollar for a negotiant wine with their label slapped on. The service was just ok. I was trying to decide what my next glass of wine would be, so my server let me have a sample before I decided. She brought it to me and 15 minutes later she came back and asked me what I would like to order. They were not very busy. read more

What an outstanding place - you won't go wrong paying this establishment a visit! Good wine, reasonable prices (especially the "subscription" program they have for locals) but what impresses me most is the friendly staff who treat you like friends and family and not just a customer. Case in point, you can order a flight of wines and almost every time I've had this, you don't have to show some kind of card or "proof" of where you are in the flight, you announce which pour you're on (or the new pour you need) and they simply trust you. This wasn't just one time, I've seen it more than not, and it's a nice touch as to their interaction with guests. You can bring in your own snacks to enjoy with your wine, although they do offer their own, and they have an agreement with Campfire next door who will deliver food. This place is great! You'd miss it if you didn't already know where it was. This entrance is facing Campfire. I love the rollup garage doors and the indoor table and bar seating. As well as the outdoor seating. The place is aestheticly pleasing, just so well done. Nicasio was amazing! He squeezed my friend and I into happy hour prices. And he checked on us without us feeling like he was coming over too often. Super nice guy! The wine is good! I prefer sweet wines, which they don't carry, but the Unicorn wine works for me for flavor! I definitely recommend this for a date night, girl's night, guy's night or whatever! I live for hidden gems. And this is definitely one of Carlsbad's finest. The light flight and the all red are 100% worth every dollar. I loved the cheese the provided along with the meat. The crackers were of course a staple of any casual charcuterie board but it was perfect after a beach day. The service was great and they are a nice little spot to grab some good wine without the nonsense. We already planned our wedding venue for this year but if we had come here prior to signing the contract I'd venture to say this is a legit spot for any small event. It's tucked away, has great wine and if located in the heart of my hometown. Will definitely be back! read more

We started off super excited and it went downhill from there. We waited 15-20 mins between the first pour of our flight and our 2nd pour, that we just got, while we watched the wait staff chatting or eating off the cheese plates or drinking wine. Such a bummer. We are now just waiting to see how long this flight tasting will a actually take. Cant say if the wine is good. I'm kinda mad now. I have been coming here for years now and I love this place. First off, Taylor is AMAZING. Sweetest thing and knows her wines. All the staff are great, but that girl never fails to provide excellent customer service and good conversation. I've also had friends come to Carruth and share their experience with me and good customer service always comes up. My favorite wines are the Cabernet Sav, Tempranillo, Malbec, and Four Play--all reds of course. If I have to name a white, the sav blanc is so good. The rosé is awesome! Get yourself in here and have the best experience. Paradise Pizza and Boba deliver food, so it's fun to get food and drink wine. However, the Carruth cheese plates are divine. Enjoy! ;) read more

I like this place. It's great to have something like this in the area. It happened to be a day when most of the staff was at an event somewhere else in North County, which only left one employee at this location for most of our time here. Did it take a little extra time for us to be helped? Yes. But there were so many customers. I give them an obvious pass. There is so much open-aired space here. When the weather is perfect, this place is perfect. Gotta utilize that weather to its full potential and offer indoor/outdoor seating with full circulation. One set of tastings costs in the ballpark of the teens. That's for the money-conscious folks like myself. The cheapest bottle is the Sav Blac, which is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. All I can say about the taste of the wines: The Barbera is the wine that has the most acquired taste. The port definitely has an obvious honey taste. Word to the wise: If there are only 2 employees on a busy Saturday night, they're going to have an extraordinarily busy night. Yes, I understand that you should have adequate attention as customers, but please look around you and realize that they're doing the best they can to tend to everybody, even if it's overwhelming. Should they have more than just 2 employees around? Of course. But the meantime, be patient and don't hold it against them by claiming they aren't doing enough when they're literally doing everything possible. Way to incorporate context into it, S.O. I've been a member and coming here for over a year and it's always been great. Today, I walked in and it was different in such an amazing way. We were greeted by Bree who was so friendly and eager to go above and beyond. I walked in and ordered a bottle of wine for me and my girlfriends, usually I'm handed the bottle and 4 glasses to bring over to my group however today was different because of Bree. Without even a blink or a question she looked at where we were sitting and brought everything over before I could even pay- talk about anticipating the needs of guests. I can't tell you how much I appreciated this level of service coming from someone who has been in the hospitality industry for over 15 years. Such a fantastic evening spent here last night. The bartender we had (older silver fox!) was so incredibly personable and kind. Really took the time to get to know his customers and take care of us. The ambiance here is really great for a date night or even a small group hanging out. Patio is very pretty. Wine and beer selection is fabulous!! One thing that I did not like was that I felt unwelcome to the establishment but not by the workers it was by the patrons sitting all around. So many dirty looks. Yeah know.... as much as I'm growing to love wine, I had some great wine, but a terrible horrible no good experience when I was here at Carruth's Tasting Room. I came here with some friends on a simple cool Carlsbad evening and we walked up to the bar. We were greeted and handed drinking menus on the bar to look over. My friends ended up ordering flights and I just got a simple glass to sip since I was driving. I couldn't believe the low amounts that they poured my friends when they ordered their flights. The gal who was pouring, I think it was Dawn, poured such uneven amounts for my friends that one had way more than the other. Simply put, if you are going to be pouring, it's simple, make sure you are consistent. None of the girls behind the bar serving wine ever smiled... They kinda had RBF most of the time while they are serving. Service was slow that night too... They had told my friends that if they had been drinking at the bar things would have been a little faster for them when I saw the ladies pouring wine that night go up to one of the tables and pour wine into their glasses for them... again not being consistent... Anyways, I love beer, wine, and well, really any kind of drinking, but the next time I go out, you won't find me here. read more

This winery tasting room features happy hour from 4-6 and offers a solid list of wines without being overwhelming. 2-3 reds, roses, and whites, plus a port option! The bartenders and friendly and knowledgeable. When I went I sat at the bar with a cup of coffee and was offered a free tasting of Pino Grigio to cleanse my palate! The glasses are reasonably priced between $10-16, and they offer flights as well. Happy hour is $3 off glasses! They have some light snacks like a cheese board. read more

I really liked this place! I came on an unsuspecting Thursday night, and was FLOORED how busy it was! I'm always so weary about new businesses opening in downtown Carlsbad because they either die, or thrive. Carruth was CLEARLY thriving. It was packed. My girlfriend (who is a member) and I propped up at a standing table/bar section with her dogs. Dog friendly place by the way, very nice. Service was... okay. You could tell based on the crowd, that everyone was demanding more wine. The servers were busy refilling everyone's glasses, so I think you may need to practice patience. The wine was good! I only had a glass of their version of a Rose (not sure what it was called exactly, but a Rose nonetheless), and I LOVED it. Prices were very fair, if I recall, $9-12 glasses. It helps if you're a member because my friend got two free glasses! Will be back, you can even smell the smokiness of Campfire next door. I think this place will do just fine! PS. Parking. Goodness. It's just not great. You have to park on State Street ORRRR find a spot behind at the Coaster Lot, which don't take my word for, I know it's for patrons using the train. It's right near the train station as well which makes it a very convenient location. This is the best urban winery in North County in my opinion with a variety of delicious wines to choose from. The Sauvignon Blanc is the best one I have ever had and a perfect choice on a warm sunny San Diego day. The Pinot Rosé is also delicious. For reds the Malbec, LMF and Cabs are all good choices. The ambience here is perfect. It's open and also dog friendly. The wine club membership is worth every penny as you get a bottle of wine every month for $35 and free wine tastings at both locations 7 days a week for you and a guest as well as many other perks! Some friends of mine are wine club members here and suggested it as a place to meet one weekend. What a location! I almost drove right by it, it wasn't very visible from the street, but once you park and walk up it's quite unique. Open and airy when the weather permits (which is almost always in California) the inside was refreshing and unlike any other wine cellar I had ever been to. Definitely on the small side, but that's not a downside for me. If anything, it just makes the place that much better. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable, accommodating our large-ish group. As friends usually do, we somehow made our way through several tastings, several bottles of red wine, and finished with a bottle of port wine. All of which were delicious. We even bought more to take home! I can't wait to go back and try more, and most likely become a member of their wine club. Beautiful spot, delicious wine, lovely people. My husband and I were members here for about 6 months. My favorite part was that they have three locations, so it was nice to be able to mix it up and go to different ones (Carlsbad Village, Solana Beach, and Little Italy). The tasting rooms are really pretty and really geared to be open air for sunny, San Diego days. Some of their wines were delicious (Pinot Noir was our favorite), but we found over time they didn't introduce a lot of new ones. It would have been nice to have a sparkling option. Also, frequently when we were there the service was just ok. There were a couple bartenders who were great (special shout out to the girl who signed us up -Long brown hair from Seattle, name escaping me at the moment). With others, though, we frequently weren't greeted at all or it was really difficult to get their attention to proceed with our tasting. This happened even when the place was kind of slow and it did play a factor in us canceling our membership. Overall I would definitely check it out and it's a fun place to bring out-of-towners for a happy hour. read more

This is my second time coming in for a tasting, the first time was great. This time really sucked. Only 2 of the 6 wines was really any good not that the server even noticed (Tannaz) she was too busy chit chatting with the other female server for us to even talk with her. We would sit there with empty glasses for extended period of times and other period of times we would sit there to ask her questions with a wine in our glass but she was too busy to be bothered. The two gentlemen servers that came in later were very polite and funny and much more personable. I can not say we will return we actually like to know about the wines we are tasting when we are being charged 15.00 for 6-1oz servings. I hope their other locations are better. read more
