Carriglea House is a stunning Victorian B&B overlooking many lush acres of garden and farmland, as well as a majestic panoramic view of the mountains. The minute you swing open the heavy wooden door, and step into the dramatic entryway, you are practically transported to Ireland in the1800's. We arrived to meet our charming host Eileen, an absolute sweetheart who bent over backwards to make our stay inviting and memorable! Our room was perfect: clean, cozy, and homey. There was a hair drier, coffee and tea service in the room, and wi-fi (though somewhat spotty and slow reception). The parlor down stairs is stunning to behold: richly upholstered chairs and couches, antique curios, old paintings on an elegant backdrop of period wallpapering. It is an absolutely classic Victorian Irish home.
The b&b is only a brisk 10 minute walk to the breathtaking Kilarney National Park and a small bike rental shop, and a quick cab ride away from the downtown area.
Unfortunately, our train was rather early in the morning, and while Eileen did her best to get us a little breakfast (mind you, while waiting on 5 other tables in her fabulous dining room) we simply did not have enough time to enjoy her full Irish breakfast. She efficiently brought out our coffee (one pot caffeinated, one decaffeinated for my cousin) Irish porridge, toast and rolls, and delicious berry pancakes before we were whisked aware by our taxi. read more
