This place has been on our list for a while, and it was so great to finally check it off. Carrigan's offers many options most Bham gastropubs are missing, including unique bar food, unique drinks, ample parking, and a generous amount and variety of indoor/outdoor seating. In addition, the music is perfectly on-tone for grown ups who just want to chill and hang out with a date or friends. We had the oatmeal cream pie (and could bathe in that cream cheese ice cream!) and the jalapeño boiled peanuts (meh...the spice was good, but we didn't even eat half of them because they were so bland otherwise. More salt (much more salt) would help. Unlike many similar places in Bham that are too much of one thing or too little of another, Carrigan's is just right. I had been here before but forgot about it. It wasn't until during a Yelp event someone suggested it, I went here for dinner last night. My friend, who isn't from here, had looked the menu up. The pics made us intrigued! However when we went, we ordered Wings and corn dog (no cilantro) but if you check my pics, they gave us all naked food....which took from the experience. Finally ventured back to this place after, well...a long time. I've been here for various events but never stayed to eat or drink due to previous negative experiences. But Thursday night I was pleasantly surprised. The staff has improved immensely! They're actually nice and attentive! My food was tasty and prepared per my request. Luckily we went while there wasn't a huge crowd, so service was also fast. And there was plenty of open seating. I'm going to put this place back into my downtown rotation. I hope this great experience wasn't a fluke because with ample seating, parking and a decent menu, I would love to frequent this establishment. read more

I used to be a Carrigan's regular when I lived downtown, and I'm so sorry I let this bar move out of my regular rotation! We stopped in with friends before a show the other night, and were greeted with friendly service, delicious food, and of course, a nice variety of craft beer and cocktails. I ordered the mac & cheese, which was delicious, served with a fresh side salad of mixed greens. My friend ordered the corn dog, said it was "terrific". In the past I've ordered the loaded fries...sooo good. This is a great after-work spot for casual drinks and dinner. Love that there is lot parking right across the street. You know, I love a place that doesn't mess around with their drinks. Carrigan's doesn't. I also love a place with good food, and I love it even more when said food is unexpectedly reasonably priced. I think the meal I had at Carrigan's last week may have had the best price to deliciousness ratio I've seen in a while. I was pleasantly surprised. I've been before and grabbed a burger, or gotten some fries while having a drink or two, but this time I was hungry and so were my friends, so we took a look down the menu and ordered a few different things. One had some panko crusted mac and cheese with brisket, another ordered some French fry-jalapeno-cheese mixture of stuff piled on a plate, and I had the beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes and cheese grits. The tenderloin was so good that we just ordered another one and everyone kept eating. Not to mention that it was only 16 bucks. That's crazy. Probably the best thing I know of for 16 bucks. I took a moment and just thought about it, and realized that my expectations had been dramatically exceeded. Very good meal. Definitely recommend it for anyone in the area who's looking for a great, causal bite to eat. The bar itself is in a 100+ year old building, so it's got that old school meets modern industrial kind of appeal. Doesn't feel cramped, plenty of seating indoors, outside on the patio in front, or up the stairs to the roof... which is always a great place to eat. Who doesn't want to eat on a roof? They have water jugs in a few spots, so you can just grab that as you please and not have to wait in line if you just want to hydrate a bit. The service is friendly, and prompt in my experiences, and they've made plenty of substitutions when I've asked, as I have a tendency to be a little picky sometimes. So great drinks, excellent food, friendly service, rooftop seating, and not hard on the wallet at all. I'm sure I'll be back when I'm hungry and in the area. read more

I only wish we had arrived when they were serving the full menu because tons of things on there looked good. But that being said, the bartender led us to the double burger which I got with ghost pepper cheese. She did not lead us astray, that thing was dynamite. It was slightly spicier than pepper jack so if you don't like heat you may want to skip. The beer list was awesome. I wanted to sit here all day instead of continuing to drive to Chattanooga. I guess that would have been bad, but at the time it didn't seem like it. The atmosphere, took it up a notch. I love old buildings with brick and exposed beams. There is a lot of history here, I wanted to know more about it. I think the building story should be posted somewhere in there. Maybe it is, but I couldn't find it on the website either. The drinks are amazing. I've been to a few bars in Manhattan that have won international awards but the deception tasted much better than any drink I've had there. The mixologists really know what they're doing. Every drink I saw made had a special touch. I did sample some food, but I wasn't as impressed. The macaroni and cheese was bland, even with the shellfish in it. The pulled pork sliders and chicken wings were ok. Nothing to rave about. So sad to see what was a friendly, fun place go right down the tubes into hell. No one greets you. Run by robots. Order on an app, provide your own key entry work. You want water? Go fetch it yourself at the "water station". Just terrible android service. How can you tip? Would you tip a kiosk? Kindest comment by staff? "We ARE on last call by the way". Carrigan's is a great place to take someone who is passing through town. Great patio atmosphere, good for summer happy hours. That being said, the drinks and food are very overpriced, plus I've never found a drink there to be anything special. Located in the up & coming downtown area. This bar/restaurant has a very unique design, the bar is trimmed with old railroad tracks which is very cool! We enjoyed trying the jalapeno boiled peanuts, what an amazing twist on a classic. I also had the fish & chips as my main entree, it'll blow you away. The fish is lightly fried & packed with flavor, lastly the sandwich is layered with lightly fried arugula & kale giving it a very nice crunch! Never had a better fish sandwich. Carrigans is a very chill place. It is a good spot to hangout with a few friends or for even a date night. They are very strict about 21 and up so you will not see a younger crowd. It is typically a pretty classy place. They have pretty good seating options but it can get crowded since it's a popular spot. Carrigans has a good outdoor area and a rooftop but the rooftop is usually taken whenever I have gone. The drinks are good and not too pricey. I think their Moscow Mule is one of the best but it is disappointing they don't put it in a copper mug. The my have a lot of local beer options and different craft brews as a whole. The food is pretty good at Carrigans. I am not as big of a fan as everyone else but most love the food. The burger is good and is a little different as they put thick pickles and beats on it. It is usually very juicy. The corn dog is pretty fancy and most love it. The corn dog I would say is there most popular food option. read more

After reading reviews on the corn dog, my friend ordered. This is not just a state fair corn dog. It was really good. Must get with fries. The combination of the two were delicious. Really enjoyed Carrigan's! They have ample parking which is always a plus. Walk in, order at the bar, then seat yourself. Pretty simple; I can see how it might get hectic on the weekends, but I've only visited during weekday lunch hour. Your choice of indoor or outdoor seating, and free wifi to get some work done during your lunch hour :P I highly recommend the corn dog and the side of pork collard greens. We ended up here as an accident since a different restaurant had a dramatic wait list and so glad we landed here. A pleasant hooded surprise. Thanks to a fellow helper introducing us to this spot. Very nice vibe. The bartenders were great at their craft. The place is very spacious upscaleish look. So I had a deception, a very tasty mysterious drink, with the o so ever strong absinthe sprayed in the drink. We weren't too hungry, so we tried this famous corn dog Everyone at the yelpies boasted and bragged on.. let's just say, I was not disappointed at all! I'm not much for bar hopping but I liked hanging out at Carrigan's! There was an event going on for the UAB School of Medicine when I went so it was packed. If you're into craft beer this is the place! There's a big selection of beer, and although I'm not a big beer fan, I liked what I got (Kiwi Kolsch?). I liked the rooftop patio, it was nice to lounge up there and enjoy the summer night. I didn't get a chance to try the food, but my friends said that everything was pretty good! One thing I'd like to suggest is that they keep food orders separate from the bar and have a better way of alerting customers that their food is ready. This place was great. The set up with a great patio, rooftop and bar inside. They did a great job tying in materials from the train tracks while keeping it edgy and modern. We spent a Friday evening here for drinks and apps with a big group. The tables and appetizers are designed for large parties and sharing. Everything was delicious- most dishes were familiar with a unique twist. The cocktails are complex and well designed- made very strong and tasty. As the night went on it got much busier with people ordering food. Outside the tables are good for small groups, but inside and upstairs it seemed to be more lounge/group areas (big tables for standing or couches around coffee tables) which would make it harder to eat their bigger dishes. read more
