I decided to try Carrigan's for lunch and ordered their infamous corn dog, which I had heard a lot about. Unfortunately, it was overcooked, which made it disappointing. The fries were good, but overall, the meal didn't live up to my expectations. I don't think I'll be ordering the corn dog again. Service was great since they allowed me to order the corn dog, even though it wasn't on the lunch time menu. The atmosphere during lunchtime was very quiet--almost too quiet. On the plus side, there was plenty of parking, which made getting in and out easy. Overall, I wasn't impressed with the food, but the convenience of parking and the calm atmosphere were nice.
Carrigans is a big, spacious restaurant on Morris avenue with a bunch of fab outdoor seating options. There's also plenty of seating inside, with booth, bar, and table options. They also have some old school arcade games to enjoy. While they're corndogs are pretty popular, I'm also a fan of their kale salad and most recently the sliders. Their fries are also thick with a nice amount of salt. The bartenders can give you good drink recommendations that pair well with the menu options. Its a nice spot to have a lunch meeting or catch up with friends.
Cardigan's was a cool late night place to grab a bite. BHAM shuts down so early and there are practically no late night spots to eat, so Carrigan's kitchen remaining open until 11p was the best. Not only did they stay open long enough to order food, but the food was tasty. I had a grilled chicken and Caesar salad-- it was fresh and the dressing was just right. The hubs had a double burger that was great. The fries were perfectly cooked with a light crunch. The meal was on point for what we were looking for. Service: good and quick. If you want a quick late night bite, this is the place! Note: upon entrance, the guy at the security station was completely unprofessional, rude, and did not show up well as the first personality that one encounters before entrance. Also, being that I had never been there before, there were no directions on how to order food, where to sit, etc. they need to change that and make the entrance more inviting. Other that, it was cool.
Good place for either a solo meal or with a group of friends. Three appetizers were definitely large enough to share amongst our group of six people. Food was prepared and delivered to our table in a timely manner.
First time coming here and I came here with a group of friends. It is off in the cut but it's in a great location near other business. The venue is spacious with lots of seating. The food and drinks are good too. The service is also pretty fast.
Perfect for happy hour starting at 4pm where old fashioneds $5! Also have a good selection of beers on tap and available in bottles and cans. Appetizers and entrees are excellent as well. Recently came here after getting off early on a workday. Enjoyed a cocktail and braised short rib sliders and fries followed by the $5 old fashioned. The sliders were outstanding and so good! Would highly recommend for all! Will be back again soon for happy hour!
One of my favorites, especially if you want a bite. The corn dog and fries are definitely winners. The fries are cooked to crispy and come with good sauces.
Definitely wish we would've gone elsewhere. The service, drinks, and food were all equally disappointing. It was nice sitting on the rooftop and being able to have our dog. Downside is you have to go downstairs and inside to order at the bar. This was kind of confusing When at the bar, I was greeted and helped by one of the least friendly workers ever. She seemed very uninterested in doing her job. I also noticed my ticket said "well gin" for my $13 specialty cocktail, which was surprising. I got a drink called The Illusion. Not my fav. Nothing special. I also got the kale salad since I saw so many good reviews. This was so bad. Both my drink and my salad were things I didn't finish, and they felt like a total waste of money. The kale in the salad was very tough and overly bitter/pungent, and the romaine pieces were all the crunchy bits that did not look fresh. The dressing was okay but minimal. Our dog appreciated the croutons I fed her lol. All in all, major fail!
Cute local pub. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor dining, bar seating and a roof! Also appeared to have a private room. Stopped by on a Friday afternoon. We enjoyed the French fries and tacos as well as cocktails. Service was great and attentive. There's also a daily happy hour/specials menu. When we were there house shots were $3.
Unfortunately, a subpar visit tonight. I think that many of my issues (but not all) here tonight are attributed to them scaling things back due to Covid. There was no staff at the door when I entered and I just kind of wandered around the restaurant until I asked one of the bartenders if I could sit at the bar, which he replied I could. The QR code they had for the menu was not working properly at first. Their menu was very limited on food items as well as draft beer, so not much selection on either. I went with the Catfish tacos and an order of the appetizer fries. Fries were good as usual, the catfish tacos were marginal. The catfish fillets themselves were so thin that they were basically crispy catfish jerky. Sitting at the bar near the open kitchen was not fun either as there was constant banter and cussing from the guys working in the back of the kitchen.
Carrigan's was such a great experience and I went with a fellow Yelp Elite too! We had a orange creamsicle drink, think Stewart's orange cream drink you get at Cracker Barrel or one of those popsicles. It was delicious and very nostalgic too! I also had what I would call a proper whisky sour where they put a egg white in the drink which gives the drink a nice creamy foamy head like a beer. The French fries we had were delicious! The bartenders we had were very informative about their drinks, kind, and friendly too.
Wife and I went for a date night. We got good drinks and good food. Service was nice and helpful. Carrigan's Public House is one of the best restaurants/bars in Birmingham!

Honestly.... out of all the meals we had in Birmingham during our conference, this was by far the best meal hands down! I had the "really good French dip sandwich" it was amazing and so tasteful. The drink was delicious as well.. wish I could remember the name. Service was excellent and fast. read more

Hi Gabrielle, thank you for your feedback, and for giving us a shot.…
A weekly visit is a must for me. I usually come for lunch which does have a different menu than the dinner menu but both are excellent have some seasonal items that rotate. The decor of and vibe of the place are very industrial chic which is dope in my opinion. Couple that with plenty of patio seating and a fast casual meets cocktail bar and you have a recipe for success. There's plenty of parking, the area of town is rad and most of the staff is pretty awesome. read more
Carrigan's is an excellent spot for both food and drinks. There is a diverse drink selection with options for everyone. And the Carrigan's corndog is famous for a reason -- just look at that mouthwatering creation. The atmosphere is perfect for a casual evening with friends or family, with a beautiful rooftop area so you can enjoy your drinks while watching the sunset. The only reason I'm taking off 1 star is because I would recommend a more diverse food menu; I feel as though there are few options. If you have a picky eater they'll pretty much be confined to the corndog (luckily it's delicious). read more
I love Carrigan's for the atmosphere and the food! The location is great with free lot parking. The place is small inside, but there is plenty of outdoor seating if the weather is nice. They just added coverings for the upstairs area which adds a good bit of extra shade. You have to order at the bar and then receive a number and your food is brought to you. Service is usually very speedy. The food has never disappointed. I go sometimes just for a ghost pepper cheeseburger to-go. One of the best burgers I've ever had. This visit, I ordered the corn dog which is served with toppings similar to elote (street corn) and their perfectly fried fries. I also ordered the drink "it's tricky" which was a surprisingly refreshing drink. A friend of mine ordered "Deception" which she also enjoyed. read more

Cool vibe, great bar grub (MUST GET THE CORN DOG!) with interesting dinner menu (PORK CHEEK SLIDERS OR THE "DALAI LAMBA") and a nice bar with great selection! 11-2pm for lunch... they are open after but no lunch until dinner time (5pm) read more

Thanks, Augusto! We have an afternoon a la carte menu from 2 - 5…
I stopped here for a quick bite of lunch and was pleasantly impressed with the quality and quantity of food for the price! The noodles were perfectly cooked and the brisket was a fantastic contrast to the texture of the noodles. The eggs were like a smooth dessert. I will be coming back on a Tuesday night for $5 old fashioned night! Service was quick and the food came out fast on my lunch hour. Highly recommended! ********** Review update. They took the brisket off the menu and it's now fried chicken bummer. That's no fun. Removing a star.... read more
This place is like a Bar... BUT WITH GOOD FOOD. This place is not just a bar, but a nice restraint with an upper level, a porch, and a spacious inside dining are. and this place is busy no matter which day of the week you go. sitting inside can be a little bit loud honestly, but they have plenty of space for big social groups and meeting new friends. one thing that has to be mentioned here is that this place has a really nice parking lot that is free for customers. This is rare in Birmingham, especially downtown. I have been here several times and never been disappointed with the food. I would have to say this place is probably 2 and 1/2 to 3 stars as far as price goes, because a meal at lunch or dinner is probably going to cost you about 20 bucks without drinks. but the flavors here are great. Most recently I had the dolly llama burger, and I still cannot tell what flavor I was tasting. if you are looking for a nice bar that is not too rowdy with really good food and some sit-down space, this would be your spot. Also, it's located on a REALLY COOL STREET in Bham, which is the cobble stone Morris Street. read more
Super cool, completely hipster spot in a very industrial-feeling part of Birmingham! We went for lunch, and it wasn't too crowded. Kind of place where you grab a menu and order at the bar. We were all really impressed with our food! I tried the Caesar salad with blackened Ahi tuna and it was pretty great! I loved having a healthy-ish option with my beer! They have a great beer selection! And their cocktails looked great (but they don't start serving liquor and cocktails until later in the day, so we didn't get to try any). They had the roof patio closed when we there, but I would definitely go back to Carrigan's for a bite to eat and drinks on that amazing patio!!! read more

We found this place after a baseball game. I truly cannot wait to go back again. The environment is wonderful for a big group of people, a special occasion, date, or just a meal by yourself to sit back and people watch. The bar staff were great! I cannot say enough about the food! That corndog was the whole reason we went there. The lamb sliders were very good. However, they were lacking in something. Maybe it was just because I had just tried the corn dog read more

This was a trendy pub-fair pit stop after a busy day downtown Birmimgham. Enjoyed self-service kiosks to place your own order. Full bar was also available. Corn dog was top notch. Will return. read more

Carrigan's is my go to date night spot. It's usually a nice crowd, good ambiance with great drinks and food! The Caesar dressing for the kale salad is homemade and worth getting extra just because, the chili pairs perfectly. I love the outside seating during the summer and fall with a group of friends as well. read more
Thanks to all of the FABULOUS Yelp reviews, Carrigan's was on my "must-do" list when visiting "B-Ham." Knowing I wouldn't have much time in the city, I booked an earlier flight just so I could be sure I had time to stop by Carrigan's. Unfortunately, the flight arrived late, so we rushed over to Carrigan's, but got there just as the kitchen was closing. Fortunately, however, the SUPER AWESOME staff were kind enough to accommodate us, & we were able to enjoy the great food, drinks, & cool, laid-back atmosphere that makes Carrigan's so well-known around town. They were very nice, & they didn't make us feel rushed at all. THANK YOU!!! :) We started with the Jalapeno Boiled Peanuts. They were super tasty, & I wish we had these in SoCal! Next, the Beets & Greens Salad with Ahi, which was just kinda average.... The burger was good, but I especially LOVED the "Wickles Pickes." I will be looking for these in SoCal to snack on. Finally, we had the one-the-only.......CORNDOG!!! Oh....my....goodness!!! I'm not a huge fan of corndogs, but this corndog was absolutely delicious! The hype is REAL!!! The coating, the sausage, the hipster ranch, the guajillo ketchup, the cotija cheese, the cilantro....all combined was like a sinfully delicious flavor explosion in your mouth! Incredible! Even the French Fries were great! Not sure how they accomplished this feat, but these were probably the best French Fries I've had in a very long time. Overall, Carrigan's was a great experience & a wonderful way to welcome me to the City of Birmingham! read more
Ok kids, don't let the trek through some sketchy areas scare you off. I came on a Tuesday, at about 6:15 so it was super mellow. Now, be warned that this place is a hipster terrarium but they have good drink and eats. I had the fry pile with added bacon. Holy smokes is that a lot of food and boy was it some tasty starch! Too much for me to finish alone with two beers. The two beers I had were nice and one was even local. (Which is always a good thing.) The beer menu has a great selection but the types aren't laid out, so you may need to harass a bartender to get a synopsis on the selection. I didn't see it but I guess there is a big patio on the roof too, so if it's not cruddy out you can catch some outside-ness with your dinner. Check 'em out! read more

My boyfriend and I decided to try this spot after a stressful day of classes. It was around 3PM and the atmosphere was great: very quiet, well decorated, and lots of natural light. We started with the jalapeño boiled peanuts and a grapefruit beer. The beer was outstanding and the peanuts were just ok. But this is someone who worships canned Peanut Patch boiled peanuts, so I don't have the most refined palette there. For our meals, I ordered the salmon salad and he ordered the French dip sandwich. My salad was so delicious, easily the best salad I've ever had. Salmon was perfect and the drizzle of soy glaze was the perfect complement. Surprisingly filling too. My boyfriend loved his sandwich as well and said the au jus was fantastic. We will definitely be back again, as my boyfriend is dying to try the corn dog. read more

Thanks so much for the kind words, Katie! The corndog is definitely…
Cool spot to grab a beer and some pub food. The service is meh - you order at the bar which is not the most convenient when you're not sitting there. The roof was closed so we grabbed a table in the main downstairs dining area. A quick beer and a loaded corn dog were on the menu today. It seems gluttonous but it was damn good for what it was (although less cilantro next time). We also had the boiled peanuts and they reeeeeally hit the spot. read more
Hey, how is that none told me before of this very cool place??? Nice surprise finding out this spot. Great service, great outlook, great beers, and one of the BEST burger I ever had! ...and great area! ...actually not, that quiet s**ks! (but it's clearly slowly changing) I'll go back soon. You know, that would be such a great spot where to organize an "event"! read more
This place definitely deserves props. Neat little bar in Bham that actually has a parking lot. Score! Bar tender was nice and explained the process to us thoroughly. Patrons looked way more chill and hipster than I can dream of being. For a moment I felt cool for just being here. I swear if my husband and I hadn't been on a health kick for the last several months we would've enjoyed our food so much more. Unfortunately our stomach eyes selected all fried food which left us both feeling blah about halfway through but legit would have been excitingly delicious to us in our past. A homemade corndog is a former dream of mine. After years of searching I finally found a place that makes a real corndog in house that doesn't start out in a box in the freezer. It's definitely no 50 cent corndog from Sonic that you zigzag with packets of ketchup and mustard. This baby is rested atop a pile of fresh cut fries and slathered with savory sauces and crumbled cheese. I know from experience that you won't find this anywhere else. It's a great entree but just tooooo much deep fried for me. I would say that the only thing we really didn't like was the chili on the loaded fries. Those giant kidney beans aren't our favorites anyway and to me just don't pair well with fries. I just wish we'd stopped for a moment and thought about ordering something lighter and fresher off the menu. At the very least it's encouragement to revisit and not go in with fat kid mentality. read more
I have been here on several occasions and had different experiences each time. My not so great experiences have been on Friday and Saturday nights. They get extremely crowded and it's standing room only. I had to elbow my way up to the bar and fight to grab the barkeep s attention to order drinks. It was also very loud to the point of being unpleasant. I also don't like having to shout to be heard. My better experience was on a Wednesday night. Surprisingly it was crowded but after a short wait at the bar we were able to grab a table. They had several nice beers on tap and a full bar with wine. Some of the members of our party got food. They have a reputation for a good corn dog. The ones we got were smothered in a unique sauce and cheese. They also had the type of fries I like browned and slightly greasy. It was a lot of fun and a conversation could be held without shouting and spitting on your mate and friends. If you like a crowded meat market it seems like Fri and Sat are the nights to go. If you want to enjoy the company of your mate and friends over a good drink and corn dog then pick Mon through Thurs night. read more
I have been here several times; recently once on New Year's Eve and once on a Thursday night after a dinner party. First off, Carrigan's can be a little hard to find and second, parking can be difficult. However, there are two levels to this bar so there is plenty of room even on the most crowded nights. Some of the other bars in the area are very small, so this is a nice change. At Carrigan's they do serve food, but I have only been here for drinks. They are open for lunch and dinner. On New Year's Eve, there was a very young crowd and it was CRAZY crowded. On Thursday night, there were mixed ages but still a good amount of people. There are a lot of tables so don't worry about finding a seat. read more

Oh Carrigan's...you will always be a fond memory I can look back on. You and Marble Ring are tied for my favorite bar in Birmingham. Who knows...maybe our paths will meet again in the future. Quality drinks and even better service. What more can you ask for? This was OUR SPOT! The first time we came, I ordered one of their martinis. We went up to the roof top deck, sat back on one of their comfy chairs, and took in the Birmingham air....we finally toasted our glasses, I took a sip and instantly spit it out. That was when I found out martinis were NOT for me. The understanding and patient boyfriend came back downstairs with me and we ordered a new drink. Our bartender (female, African American, shoulder length cut, I really want to say her name was Raven? This was probably almost 2 years ago lol) asked if I liked the martini since she just made it and I was already getting another one. I told her the truth and she made me a sweeter cocktail (more my speed) at no charge and apologized that I didn't like the first drink. I couldn't believe how nice she was for a mistake I MADE. Ever since, I knew ole Carrie and I would be great friends. Never had a bad experience here. Service was exceptional each visit and the drinks (never ordered another martini) are always fantastic. The bartenders here will listen to you and make suggestions on what drinks you might like. Give it a try! read more

What to get: beets and greens Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: trendy bar, gastropub Wait: 0 mins (Wednesday 5:30PM for 1) Parking: designated parking lot across the street The Experience: Where all the young, trendy people come to drink. I was only able to enjoy a single beer, but the food is unconventional. First thing I love about this place: the parking lot. Yes, there's a lot across the street, which they have a cutely lit terrace in front of. The street isn't busy at all, so not to worry about getting run over. The entrance is past their patio area. Inside: trendy gastropub. How else can I describe it? I guess what they call 'hipster,' but that's every gastropub back where I'm from. You'll need to try the food here. It is a bit pricey, but it's different from the usual affair you find elsewhere nearby. Since I've been loading up on carbs and comfort food my whole trip, I went for the beets and greens to start. I also added seared ahi tuna. It comes on a metal tray, so the spread is beautiful with all those vibrant colors. A light meal which was balanced with a hearty IPA. I also tried the infamous corn dog. I didn't have enough room to eat the whole thing, but it was tasty. The sausage in the middle has some spice to it, while the outside is covered with hipster ranch and a BBQ-like ketchup. I'm very 'anti-condiments,' but I tried it. It's good, but very rich. The hipster ranch is more likened to a cheese sauce. However, I will say that the fries that came with the corn dog were bomb. I ended up eating more fries than corn dog, but at least you can box your food up so you can enjoy the rest later. Pro-tip: if you're not in a group, if you dine around the corner at the bar, it's relatively quieter than the main area. Plus people won't be crowding around you to order drinks and food. You'll enjoy your meal in somewhat peace. read more

Pretty chill place (for lunch). In town from Houston for work and a co-worker came in from Atlanta and recommended this place. Glad we came! It was quiet around 1 for lunch on a Wednesday. Walk in and order at the bar, grab a number, and have a seat. Ordered the fish and chips sandwiches. Not your traditional fish. The fish in the sandwich is grilled (not breaded and fried) and it's skin on. It was a little on the salty side (could have been the kale chips/chips) but the salt content was a little high for my desired liking. They have a nice outside area. It's on the edge of downtown so the street is quiet. Would love to check this spot out as a happy hour destination. I'm sure it's a happening place. Staff was super friendly too!! read more
My husband and I stopped in here for an early afternoon drink after an appointment the other day. Because of the time of day, the place was fairly empty. A limited lunch menu was served. I ordered the white bean hummus and my husband ordered the burger with ghost pepper cheese. While waiting for our food, I tried the Farmers Market cocktail and he had a beer. My cocktail was DELICIOUS! Aperol, cocchi americano rosa, orange juice, dolin dry, and fresh basil combined to make a refreshing drink that made me feel like I was sniffing fresh produce. I enjoyed my second drink almost as much, the Deception. Byrhh, lemon, vodka, st Germain, and absinthe. Yum! My hummus was delicious and there was a ton of it. I love the olive tapenade on top. The pita was not quite crispy enough to be chips, but way too hard to be fresh. I had a difficult time chewing them. My husbands burger was tasty, and the ghost pepper cheese gave it a nice kick. If you want to relax in a trendy atmosphere and enjoy delicious beverages, this is the place for you! read more

This place has an awesome vibe good drinks and good food. It lacks a ton of seating so Friday and Saturday nights sometimes can be tricky getting a seat but most nights it's no problem. They have some really nice outdoor areas too. They don't let anyone under 21 in which is nice. They have a pretty cool cocktail menu and a long beer list so everyone can find something they like. I usually get the corn dog which is somehow amazing but this time I got the Mac and cheese. It was really good too! read more

Boujee with a side of bouj. My friend wanted to come here for the "Tuesday special" guess she forgot the day we were going was Monday. Hahaha! Either way, it was happy hour time, but there were NO happy hour specials. You have to walk up to the bar to order anything, then go find a seat. Ok. Settled for a 4 oz. pour (maybe 6, it was really small!!) of Cab. And what the bartender recommended to eat, a corn dog. Ooook. I didn't really want a corn dog for dinner, but since it was recommended. Well, it was a schmancy corn dog y'all. I guess that's what you'd call it because of the way they decorated it with the sauces. I knew I shouldn't have listened to that bartender. It was a corn dog y'all! Sorry, but sonic does it just the same, minus the schmancy sauce pour. Hummus and falafel plate was a whole lot of hummus and one falafel cut in half!?? It was yummy and so were the veggies, but I mean... call it what it is! My friend ordered some lamb sandwich that she also came specifically for. 1, the bartender never put it in, 2, they were out of it. Not winning here! I don't know y'all, I'd say go try a happy hour spot then come here for a "special of the day". Not feeling the vibe here. Not my cup of tea. read more

This place has been on our list for a while, and it was so great to finally check it off. Carrigan's offers many options most Bham gastropubs are missing, including unique bar food, unique drinks, ample parking, and a generous amount and variety of indoor/outdoor seating. In addition, the music is perfectly on-tone for grown ups who just want to chill and hang out with a date or friends. We had the oatmeal cream pie (and could bathe in that cream cheese ice cream!) and the jalapeño boiled peanuts (meh...the spice was good, but we didn't even eat half of them because they were so bland otherwise. More salt (much more salt) would help. Unlike many similar places in Bham that are too much of one thing or too little of another, Carrigan's is just right. Can't wait to revisit many times over. read more

I had been here before but forgot about it. It wasn't until during a Yelp event someone suggested it, I went here for dinner last night. My friend, who isn't from here, had looked the menu up. The pics made us intrigued! However when we went, we ordered Wings and corn dog (no cilantro) but if you check my pics, they gave us all naked food....which took from the experience. The taste wasn't even the same. Not our best experience. We poured the sauce they put in the box but it just wasn't the same. read more
