There was also serious water damage in one of the walls and the insulation had to be replaced. Rob did an excellent job helping me make decisions about which pieces to prioritize given the budget we had discussed. Rob also has a good eye for interior design and helped me choose paint colors, etc. I am extremely happy with the paint color we chose. He also suggested a larger baseboard that looks great, and added larger trim around the windows, which gives the whole room a very "high end" feel (especially considering it's a converted garage). Vidal & Miguel did a great job installing new flooring, painting, replacing the insulation, etc. They were polite and very respectful of my home. I highly recommend Rob & Decade Construction, and would use them again for future home improvements. For a long time, we had been looking for a contractor to replace our kitchen countertop, fix up our…read morebathroom, and fix up an old bar area. It was hard to find the right contractor. Some had no track record. Some were pushy, like they were selling a used car. Some offered labor-only, with no help picking out materials and fixtures. Some pressed us to buy the most expensive materials available and seemed judgmental when we declined. The bids were all over the map. Some were bare bones with just a handful of line entries. Some had ridiculous, non-standard contract provisions (e.g. requiring the OWNER to insure the contractor for the work that the contractor was doing!) Then we found Gar-Cal. Angel is a professional - friendly, polite, and responsive. His proposal was easily the most detailed - everything was itemized including profit. His contract terms were actually in line with California law and industry norms. He said we could buy the materials/fixtures or he could help us identify what we wanted and he would price it out for us. He offered to introduce us to a designer, but it wasn't necessary. Angel has the experience and an excellent eye for what looks good. e.g. we had a countertop style in mind, but he suggested a different marbling because it would better match our cabinetry. Bonus: Gar-Cal just built out a showroom where you can go and look at various samples - I can't overstate how helpful it is to see the items in person. He and his team communicate often and are responsive to questions. The crew is polite, diligent, and friendly. It's always hard to live through construction, but Gar-Cal did a great job to make it as pain-free as possible. Maybe the true sign of a great contractor: Anything that needed attention, such as punch-list items, were promptly and completely addressed to our satisfaction without argument or fuss. We are very happy with the finished product and highly recommend Gar-Cal (actually, I already have...to a friend who is scheduled to meet with Angel).

High quality work, and no unpleasant surprises. Good design sense, great suggestions, honest, straightforward, Jamison is very friendly and runs a very respectful and friendly crew. We had a very tight deadline to move into our newly purchased house. We wanted to get all of the remodeling done at once before we moved in, so we wouldn't have to deal with construction/renovation down the road. Our realtor suggested we contacted Sinclair Construction. Jamison was very friendly and easy to talk to, and had many additional excellent suggestions to the work we wanted. We were nervous relying on his designing skills without much time to review, though we found his design sensibilities fit perfectly with our taste. Sinclair Construction did a great job on a tight schedule. Excellent quality work, good customer support throughout the project, and he took the time to explain to us any issues he suggested we address as he encountered problems caused by previous construction or general aging. I am not sure we could have gotten such a good house remodel done on our tight schedule if we were not able to find Jamison/Sinclair Construction.

He communicated clearly about what was possible and was honest when the stairs turned out to be in worse condition than first assessed. All-in-all there was only so much they could do given the stairs were built incorrectly and were in very bad condition, but they pulled through and got everything into a safe, workable state. Harvey was also a really nice guy to talk with. Professional, personable, and easy to work with. He kept us informed when the timeline shifted, worked efficiently, and left the area tidy when they finished.

The primary project goal was to customize the home interiors to work better for the family living arrangement and bring more daylight into the home. The budget was fairly tight but there were lofty design and detailing goals. It was difficult to find a contractor that was interested in a project of this scale, who could deliver the level of finish expectations, and meet the clients' budget and schedule goals. We were introduced to Matan, who ended up being the perfect match for the project. Matan was thorough and transparent with his estimates in the initial budgeting stage. He carefully reviewed drawings and asked questions to make sure the design vision was being executed to a high level. He was very communicative about progress and construction issues, to ensure the project went as smoothly as possible. When unforeseen conditions were discovered, he addressed them quickly and fairly. The family moved out of the house during construction, but with young kids, they were eager to get back in as quickly as possible. Matan prepared an initial schedule and attentively managed the project to stay on track and get the family back home on time. In the end, the project was a huge success thanks to Matan and his team.
