After the paperwork was signed, I found two splintering chips. Rony's response on the spot was, "there's nothing we can do about that." A second BMW dealership disagreed, confirming the damage is severe enough to require a full windshield replacement, likely $1,000-$2,500+ once camera and sensor calibration is factored in, and that it's unlikely the car will pass Pennsylvania state inspection as is. In the weeks since, the splinters have continued to spread from ordinary driving, worsening with time. When I initially called to get this resolved, I was routed back to Rony. He now claimed the damage was minor, a stark reversal from telling me before I flew out that there was none at all. On June 18, I emailed Kirk Nuno, the GM, and laid out exactly what had happened. He didn't respond. The inquiry was passed instead to Shane Romano, the sales manager, who replied the next day. In writing, Shane told me the dealership holds itself "to higher standards" on out-of-state deals and said he was "happy to work something out" once I sent photos. I sent them that same day. He went silent the moment he had them. Getting any further response took two rounds of escalation to BMW corporate, repeated texts to the person at BMW Murray who was working on my vehicle registration, and a public review; the first corporate contact alone did nothing. Four weeks to the day after I sent those photos, Kirk Nuno finally called. It wasn't the dealership choosing to make this right, it was the dealership responding to pressure it could no longer ignore. What he said on that call directly contradicted what his own sales manager had put in writing weeks earlier: "We've heard your review, we've heard your messages to BMW corporate, and the decision we've come to as a management team is that we are not going to help you with your windshield." He pointed out that the car was used, seeming to suggest this was damage I should have expected from a vehicle they sold. When I asked whether he thought this was an acceptable way to treat a customer, he didn't answer. Instead, he said, "we can continue to keep talking in circles or we can end the call." That statement sums up my experience with this dealership from the moment I drove off the lot. I did my due diligence as an out-of-state buyer: flew in, inspected the car, documented the damage immediately, and escalated through every proper channel available, including BMW corporate itself. In writing, this dealership acknowledged fault and promised to make it right. A month later, on the phone, I was told the direct opposite. Avoid an out-of-state purchase with this dealership at all costs. If you are considering one anyway, document the car's condition yourself before you sign, and get every promise in writing. Spoken words, written commitments, and apologies won't be honored once the deal is done. This dealership was given a month and every opportunity to keep its word. It chose not to.

I found the car on CarGurus around the end of January 2018, phoned the dealership, and was introduced to my new best friend Nate. After a few back and forth texts, more photos, questions about the car, and calls for close to a month, I told Nate I was interested in purchasing the Beetle; and that I was flying down to Salt Lake to pick it up and drive it back to Spokane. I flew into SLC, Nate personally picked me up from the airport, and drove me back to the dealership to meet my new Bug. The gentleman who detailed the car, made it look like it had just rolled off of the assembly line in 1971. After a test drive, I signed some paperwork, paid cash for the car, and drove off into the sunset...or so I thought I would. I had planned on driving back to Spokane early the next morning, but the Bug wouldn't start. I contacted Nate and got the Bug towed back to the dealership. The Service Manager, Chris, allowed me to occupy an unused service bay, and Nate spent the next few hours going above and beyond to help me get back on the road. There are a few morals associated with my experience. If you want to by a car in Salt Lake, look for Nate (wherever he may be); if he happens to have the day off, ask for Barry. RC Automotive is a BUSINESS. Utilities and associates have to be paid (it's the American way!). Respectfully, if you haven't purchased the vehicle outright, and someone else makes a better offer, don't expect to have priority "dibs" on said vehicle; whether you're flying in or happen to be a local. Also, it's a buyer's responsibility to research the vehicle and dealership before purchasing the vehicle. Ask the right questions. If you don't get the answers you want, it's your right to go somewhere else. Nate, I can't thank you enough. Barry, stay gold. Chris, I died laughing (inside) when you told me you wouldn't drive back to Spokane in that car. Thanks Jazmine, for all the paperwork filed and sent out in a timely manner. And another big thank you to everyone in the service department, and the young man who made my new '71 Beetle look brand new.

Argued with Barry, he said "he'd make it right", never did. Dealership refused to cancel the sale. I got 2 mechanic reports, both said $10,000 in immediate repairs needed, do not drive the car, if I do, it will turn into $30,000 worth of repairs. After my prior car buying experience was not the best at a Utah dealership (a three-letter acronym…read morethat will not be named), I was going in jaded and very guarded. I started the search process thru Cars.com found a couple cars I was interested in and reached out to the respective sales reps. Shelby reached out promptly to ask a few questions and set up an appointment. I met Shelby at the dealership where she asked a few more detailed questions and listened intently before I took a test drive. I liked the car, but there was another on the lot that I had marked to test drive. Shelby asked if I had seen that it had been a minor accident, which I had missed during my review of the online details. She suggested a few other options, but they didn't fit what I was looking for. I explained I had another car I was test driving that day, with more in days coming. Near the end of this visit the sales manager, Ray, introduced himself and offered his help if there was something that I needed and Shelby was unavailable. During the week Shelby reached out to see how test driving was going. She was inquisitive and offering her expertise without any high-pressure sales technique. Not once did I hear anything like "I have another interested party." or "This price is special and won't last." to encourage a hastied decision. After testing driving the other vehicles, I reached out to Shelby to check if the car I liked was still available, and if so that I would like to move forward with the purchase. To ensure reliability and condition of what I was about to purchase, I asked that they allow me to do a pre-purchase inspection at an independent service shop - which was no issue. While we waited for the final documentation prep Shelby mentioned snacks, beverages, and food they had available then escorted me to their STI Cafe where they have fresh-made sandwiches and baked goods, fruit cups, yogurt, along with an assortment of candy. During midday hours you can get a full lunch. Much to my surprise this was complements when purchasing a car. It'd be a lie to say I wasn't very suspicious - again, based on my prior experience at another dealer. The seating area was bright and clean with a few semi-private nooks with tables, open high and low seating areas, plus a kids play area with a car to examine and a mini drag race ramp. The wait was a little bit long and Shelby checked in with me a few times during. None of it felt phony or fake, just surprising in a good way. When everything was ready I met with John in finance to complete the transaction. He confirmed all necessary details then an assortment of warranty and maintenance packages were offered with suggestions and no real pressure. Descriptions of differences between various offerings and how that changes out-of-pocket expenses in the event. No pressure, but rather a discussion. While car buying is always a little stressful, I didn't feel like I was pressured from Shelby or anyone I worked with to buy this or add that. As a female, I did my research and let Shelby know what I was interested in and she listened. She talked with me and not at or down to me. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Shelby again strictly for how she handled every interaction. If you're in the market to buy a car, I would suggest Mark Miller Midtown Subaru. Ask for Shelby.

They found the refrigerant was low, recharged the system, checked for leaks, replaced two O-rings, and sent me on my way. Unfortunately, after the repair, the A/C would only stay cold for about 15-20 minutes before blowing warm air again. I brought it back six days later, and they determined that the A/C compressor was failing after it heated up. Because this required another diagnosis, there was initially going to be a $120 diagnostic fee. I explained that I felt this was related to the original issue I had brought the vehicle in for, and Brad Schatz took the time to listen to my concerns. He agreed to waive the second diagnostic fee, which I thought was a fair resolution. No one likes having unexpected car problems, but what stood out to me was how Brad handled the situation. He treated me respectfully, listened to my concerns, and worked with me to make things right. That's the kind of customer service that earns my trust, and it's why I'm happy to leave a five-star review.
