In September 2021, before the first freeze, I filled all of the control joints with a high quality polyurethane sealant (caulk). This was done at the first signs of cracks appearing in the joints. In early October 2022, one section of the drive separated at the control joint and broke away from the drive. Contractor placed the blame on Indiana weather with freezing and contracting causing the damage. This was only after 16 months and exposure to one winter season. Since the sealant should have prevented any moisture into the cracks of the joints, freezing should not have made an impact to the structural integrity. Concrete work is only guaranteed for 12 months. Conclusion: Poor workmanship and/or materials was the likely cause of the problem. I will need to engage a more qualified contractor to repair the current damage. I would not recommend this contractor.

In short, this man took my $2000 deposit, and over nearly two years (pre-COVID), failed to complete a single task in the contract. I asked for my money back and sent a demand letter. Dave gave excuses such as other jobs running over, personal injuries/limitations, family health issues, etc. He complained about how many times he had to come to my house to talk about the plans. While I admit that I did have an evolving vision that sometimes needed a face to face discussion, most of his trips were for his benefit, not mine (e.g., had to re-measure several times and even asked me to take measures to send). He stated that his right to keep the deposit was based on work already done. I never saw anything done. He also tried to withhold some of my items as "collateral" and in legal terms, that's called theft. I eventually had to make a trip to his workshop to pick up my property. I cannot speak to the quality of Dave's work, but I can share with you that he took advantage of someone in a state of grieving. I felt bad for each of his reasons as to why he couldn't finish the project because I was in a fragile state. In hindsight, I was manipulated. Dave may respond to this with unsubstantiated excuses. Near the end of my correspondence wit Dave, he sent me a final invoice that was $4000 over my quoted price stating that the job had caused him extra work and travel that was not anticipate. Again, I share with you that he NEVER DID ANYTHING in my house. Please choose a different carpenter to save yourself some time and money, and some very likely heartache.

He left and came back with plastic to tarp off my things. They started on the job. Carrying dozens of five gallon buckets of concrete out of my basement. Getting debris all over my steps and hallway to the front door. They didn't put anything on the floor. I had to clean the steps, hallway floor and basement floor multiple times to get it all up. Less than two hours after they finished the concrete had sunk and wasn't anywhere near level. The entire length of the basement was unlevel. They sent back a different crew to redo it. They did put down a sheet on the floor and stairs which I appreciated. They did get it much more level than the first people but it still isn't great. They sent a final guy for a walk through the next week. I asked why they didn't use a saw to cut a straight line and he said that they only do that if the customer requests it, otherwise they use a jackhammer down the entire floor to cut it out. Now to make it look normal we will have to go through and put self-leveling down. Had I known that my floor wouldn't look just like it did before minus the unpainted new concrete I would've never chosen this company and paid 9,000 for this repair. Spending that much I would just expect for the concrete to look just as good as my floor previously did. Just know that if you chose this company make sure you request them to cut a straight line or you will have an uneven floor all the way across. Julie
