We had a good experience with Flooring America in Okemos. We got 4 estimates for what ended up being 960 square feet of carpet, and were quite disappointed with the quality of product and service from places like Empire and The Carpet Guys. We also got an estimate from a small business locally. Flooring America was able to beat their price. Our salesperson, Ben, was helpful and responsive whenever I had a question or needed something -- even emailing back on his day off. He explained everything in clear terms, and he gave straightforward answers to questions I had about types of carpet, how different types would stand up over time, etc. He was the only one of the four places to measure with a laser!!! Some of the others just kind of threw their tape measure around and whatever number they got was "close enough." Then they'd scribble down figures in pencil on graph paper. I think the laser is much more accurate. The carpet was ordered and ready for when our schedule would allow for us to have it installed. The installers were polite and efficient. They explained what they were doing, and they consulted me whenever they had a question about which way I would prefer they do something. They did a beautiful job, and I am happy we chose Flooring America. And I am so pleased to have my nasty old carpet out of here! read more

Found the perfect floor for my kitchen but when they installed it the color wasn't what I ordered. I picked out a dark color but there was only about 1/4 of the box that color. It looked like a bad patch work. Kenton did an awesome job putting the floor in and then took it up again. More tiles were ordered and we went through every one of them to get the dark ones. AJ installed the sorted color and my floor looks fantastic. They really do go the extra mile to get you the floor you want. read more

I purchased flooring and was contacted to schedule installation. At no time was I told that they used an outside contractor to do installation. We were told that it would be one person to do an entire apartment (1000 square feet) and it would take 1.5 days. Then we were contacted the day before install and told it would be a two full day job and that the person would arrive between 8 and 10am on the first day of install. I waited for an hour and 20 min when I received a call and was told that the person was finishing up another site and would not arrive until 11. I do not live in the location being carpeted so this was a complete wasted trip for me to sit for over an hour only to have to leave and come back again and hour and a half later. When I was contacted that the installer would be late, the person tried telling me they would 'try' to finish in two day. I said NO. You WILL finish in two days since you originally stated it would be 1.5 days and we planned based on that information. I stated we have a dog that has been boarded for this and has to be picked up so you have to complete the job by the end of the second day. No apology. No nothing. I pre-paid for the carpet and installation so I feel they have my money so they could care less about the additional expense I have to incur to board the dog longer and the inconvenience it is causing me to have to run back and forth to the location. I will never use this company again. If we had been told that they would only send one person to do the install and in turn it would take them two full days to complete the job, I would have gone elsewhere. I think as a customer paying for a service, the store should have told us that the installer was an outside contractor and that they would only hire one person to do the job. All this after WE pulled up and disposed of the old carpet, left all tack strips intact, sealed and prepped the floors in the entire apartment and removed almost all furnishings! Would definitely not recommend this company!! read more

Horrible experience here. Installers were late, rude, made a mess and then laid my new carpet in a dirty street next to sewer drain to cut it for installation. When I complained, installer was nasty and then abruptly left, leaving me with no carpet and exposed tack strips. He later lied about putting new carpet in dirt and said my old carpet was "urine soaked" (from my dog who had been dead two years!!) Owner and general mgr were just as rude and unprofessional as the installer. Got a refund but had to deal with sharp e Lansingxposed tack strips for a week before getting someone else to install new carpet. Poor customer service and could care less about how they treat people. Run far away from this place!! read more

They installed on 7/20&21 and it has just been a big back and forth and stall from that point on. Bad seams and a bunch of knife overcuts. They tried to blame the manufacturer so Shaw hired an inspector to come to my house and look on 9/23, the first two months of stalling. He determined that the seams were done without seam sealer which is a standard for this carpeting. On 10/27 the manager Tomas Almazan said they were cutting new carpet and would be over on the 28th. They showed up with nothing but seam tape and undid one seam (living room) and re-did it the same way as the first time against the standard for installation and guess what?, same result. A crap looking carpet install job! Then they did some band-aid work on other seams and some other problems. He says he ordered new carpet for the whole house but has left me in limbo wondering what is the truth and where the fiction ends because they are having a sale and are more concerned about finding some new victims to hand them down payments and do some shoddy work for. Apparently you have to spend more than nearly $6500 to get next level service and satisfaction. Thanks to their designer Heather of Wallflower designs for charging fees then bailing out when the quality goes south. read more

We had an excellent experience with Marmoleum in a mud room so we chose that product for a small bathroom. We visited the store and the sales person was helpful. We agreed on a product and a price and the material was supposed to arrive in a week or 10 days after the room was measured. Measuring went well but I never got a call. I called the store after a couple weeks and they said the product had just arrived. I waited for another call to get installation scheduled and it never came. I called again and eventually we got installation scheduled. When the crew came to install the floor, the material was damaged. I had already done the demo. The store called and they were supposed to "overnight" the replacement material. Two days later it arrived. The crew worked most of the day on the tiny bathroom and the results are acceptable. The store knew that we were not happy but there has been no contact from them to see if we could be compensated for their lack of performance (which was offered in one phone call). I called the store and even offered to purchase the damaged product to use in another location. I wanted to offer a "win-win" situation out of a bad one. I've gotten no response from that. The product is ok but the people don't communicate and it appears as if the process is broken. Review update: After I posted this review, Tom from the store called. We spoke for a while and he apologized for the experience. He also said the review prompted them to make process changes so this would not happen again and offered to compensate us for the trouble which I accepted. I am impressed that he stepped forward, took responsibility and worked to resolve a difficult situation. read more

I wish I could give Flooring America-Carpet Studio in Okemos TEN STARS! I came into the store after a disappointing experience with another installer. I really needed expert help with every part of re-flooring my upstairs (two small bedrooms and a small half bath): the layout was weird; the current flooring was uneven, sagging, and very damaged in areas; and there were different types of walls and existing floor boards. I couldn't figure out what vinyl planking design would look best with the knotty pine walls. I even had an additional problem they helped me solve: my aging dog couldn't handle the wooden stairs and I couldn't figure out a solution other than carpeting the stairs which I thought would look weird (the way they did it, the type of carpet they helped me pick out- it looks just great!). The list of issues goes on. Add to all this, one very grumpy, impatient customer who wanted it all done "yesterday!" (Yes, me). The owner of the store (!) came to my house, did all the measuring, and helped me pick out the vinyl planking design and carpeting for the stairs. Installation started one week before Michigan shut-down in response to COVID-19. During the 4-day process of repairing the underfloor and installing the new floor, the company dedicated one installer, AJ, to my job to minimize the number of people coming in and out of my home. Ditto with the carpet installation on the stairs. AJ was highly skilled, efficient, patient, and the final result - especially given what he had to work with - is nothing less than amazing! There were some unexpected challenges part way through the flooring job. AJ and his colleagues quickly consulted with me, reviewed my options, and resolved the problem for me at no additional cost. Everyone I interacted with at Flooring America-Carpet Studio has excellent inter-personal communication skills. Every person I spoke to was helpful, positive, and went above and beyond to help me. EVERY PERSON DID WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO, WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO IT. AND I love the end result! I just cannot say enough good things about the team at Flooring America-Carpet Studio on Jolly Road in Okemos, MI.
