In a small town like Bailey we always wish to give local business a try, before using someone in town. I found Becky to be pleasant and professional regarding the carpet that needed to be replaced due to a water leak in our home. Carpet selection was vast and affordable and picking one was quick and simple. The price quoted was more than fair and we scheduled install for 2 weeks. That's when the challenges started, and compacted even more because of the holidays. We had been promised it would be installed prior to Thanksgiving until "the mill" didn't have any of our selection in stock and had to make it. So that delayed the process another 3 weeks and it was finally "installed" just before Christmas.
Unfortunately come to find out that Becky is a little deceptive with the invoice and breakdown of the work. She writes one price on the front of the invoice, and then writes another on the back of the invoice. She never clearly states that you are responsible for paying the installers when they come out and do the work. She does right LABOR on the back of the invoice but nothing else. I think "Pay Labor fee to installers the day of installation" would be much more appropriate.
So, the day of the install I'm talking to the pot smelling hillbilly {facts, not a slur} she sent out to install it and he mentions I need to pay him $1,000 tomorrow when they finish. I'm freaking out, I was never told I would need to pay the installers. Becky had provided me with 3 invoices breaking down different room scenarios for the carpet. So, I was unclear on the specific invoice we finally decided on. She took the payment with my credit card and I figured I was done paying.
So, I called her up and questioned her and she starts yelling at me that she wrote on the back of the invoice LABOR $1,000. Who the heck does business now days and splits up the work like this? So, I return to Mr. Clampett and explained to him I don't have a thousand dollars in cash. he simply looks at me and says "well we will need to figure something out". By this time, they already have all of my furniture moved, old carpet up and the home is a complete mess.
He also states to me that "this happens all the time". I showed him the invoice and explained why I didn't know I was supposed to pay him separately and he completely understood. He told me that one past client still owes him over a thousand because Becky didn't clearly explain the process to him either. I'm freaking out and tell Mr. Clampett that I can pay him with a credit card. Of course, he replies he doesn't take credit cards, no PayPal, No type of electronic payment system.
The second day morning only the assistant shows up, Mr. Clampett is at the warehouse picking up more carpet and doesn't get back to the house until almost noon. By this time Mr. Clampett is half baked because I'm sure he's had a bowl during his long drive from the city. I had been able to get the one thousand in cash from my bank and was ready to pay him when he finished that day.
Throughout the install Mr. Clampett was constantly cursing at the job, and at his assistant. I couldn't believe his assistant didn't walk out on him the way he had been spoken to. Mr. Clampett around 4pm came to me and said they would need to come back tomorrow {Friday} to finish the job. I told him no one would be home so he would need to come back Saturday or next week to finish. I explained to him that he only requested 2 days to do the job so I took 2 days off of work to be there. He replied to me as if I was his assistant and said "Well I didn't know you were going to have so much CRAP to move, so it took longer". What great customer service this guy has. They stayed until about 8 pm and finished, well almost finished.
There is one small 3-foot strip to finish where it goes into the stone dining room. Some kind of long metal strip is supposed to secure the edge of the carpet when it finishes in stone apparently. Mr.Clampett stated he would come back tomorrow after 5pm to finish it but to this day he has not come back. I made a mistake in paying the entire $1,000 because I know he lives in Bailey and surely, he would be a man of his word and return to finish the job. NOPE!
The $500-$1,000 you might save on carpet using Becky and Carpet Direct is not worth the anguish you will have to put up with from Jed. Shop someplace else is my recommendation. read more
