Every gathering me and friends have downtown either START at 2nd City or END at 2nd City. The bar is the best kept secret in the CSRA. (All alcohol is made in house) There's ample seating (I normally opt for the sofas), it's never too loud, the drinks are some of the best you'd get, the bartenders are top notch, and sometimes there's a beautiful friendly dog there. Every month they have a new batch of cocktails that you can try, but I'm not much of a fruity girl. The menu has a wide selection to choose from at a great price. Majority of the time, I have a salted caramel old fashion that comes with a piece of chocolate, it's smooth and delicious! Since being introduced to this business by Yelp, it's one that I continuously frequent!

What's cool is that all the liquor I from their distillery so the bartender can tell you all about it, a different experience than going to your everyday bar. **Just FYI they only have liquor and no beer, which was fine for us since that's all we were planning to have but if coming with beer folks be advised. ** Tons of seating for various group sizes, plus the couches made it feel like I was hanging out a a buddy's house. Also was nice that they played good music and not at an obnoxious level like most bards where you can't hold a conversation. The bartender was great, gave us info about the distillery and made one of the best old fashioned I have ever had. I will say that had I not know of this place I would have never come across it since it's off the Main Street, so I am thankful for word of mouth. I can't wait to come back and bring in folks that have yet to try it out!

The building was an 1893 cotton warehouse still with the original roof so it may throw you off a bit. However, when you enter "The Hive", it's gorgeous and welcoming! The owners, Mark and Jennifer have made it their mission from the beginning to only buy from local and regional farmers. All other materials, such as bottles, etc. are 100% American-made. To date, they have named and dedicated two whiskies to the men and women who have served this country by sea and by land, Sea Duty and Sword and Saber. The third, for those who have served by air, will be released early next year. It has also been their goal to provide a space for folks to gather, meet their neighbors, and enjoy life. The Hive Pub, which is part of the distillery offers seasonal cocktails, mocktails, and an assortment of other beverages. It had a bacon jam which complemented the cheese, all while not detracting from the delicious beef. My table mate had the beef short ribs; tender, rich, and a good portion size. The potato salad side was tasty enough to make me wish for a larger scoop. Our two cocktails were top-shelf quality, although the Old Fashioned's cherry was an obliterated mush. The lacking star is due to the noise level once the live music kicked in. The inside seating is already a loud echo chamber of hard surfaces, but adding the near ear-splitting band out in the tent made all conversation impossible. I saw several tent tables clear out when the music started. I like live music, and the band was good. But half the decibels would have been more than enough. I think my ears are still ringing two days later. Service was good as our waitress barely kept up with the dinner crowd surge and a new and uncooperative POS system. Hopefully that will fall in line and give the staff a break! Looking forward to future offerings from their talented chef. Will definitely visit next time I'm in the area.
