Another day, another distillery!! Again while driving back from vacation a well placed billboard directed us to take a slight detour and check out Palmetto distillery. So glad we did! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and directed to look around and call out with any questions. We naturally did a tasting and they offer 6 samples for $5. We tried our 6 and then the bartender let us try one other one as well! Relaxed atmosphere providing plenty of moonshine tasting options as well as cocktails. They did not have any food options when we there but plenty of local restaurants to grab a bite after drinking.....see next review for options read more

Unassuming building has been updated with a folksy exterior, but inside, there are rows and rows of mason jars full of legal 'shine. A flight of any six is $5 (quarter-ounce shots), which is enough to get you acquainted. There are tables and chairs inside and out, as well as merchandise (hoodies, t-shirts, etc) The two employees I interacted with were very personable. We chatted about the state of distilling in the region, culture, and recipes. I had to drive for several more hours and it was getting dark, so I had to leave, but I know it would be a great place to spend a few hours with friends. read more

The first legal moonshine in SC. They've been doing this for 11 years. They have a pretty large distillery and a huge selection! Super cute country decor. They even do Darrius Rucker's moonshine for him. Moonshine is unaged whiskey. And 100% cornmash. These are 5th generation recipe. They run a 1000 gallon all copper still. Although they don't serve food at the location I went to, the ambiance is super chill and the service was great. They had a ton of selections and a sampling menu that really made it a great experience. The service when I was there was great and I can't wait to see what they come up with next! There are no goats on the roof at the distillery, but there is a lovely shop, plenty of flavors to taste and buy, and an in house dog to keep you company while you do. Thiz was my second visit. Always after seeing the billboard sign on the side of the highway. So yez it works! Len and i believe his name waz Nick. Lol well they both were great host and was very knowledgeable about their products. Social distancing enforced even during the tasting. My friends loved it. I know a few people who have worked for this company before, and it's nothing but bad rumors about how employees are treated as well as how the place is run so I went to the business to check for myself and it's pretty true. The drinks taste okay, but I wouldn't say they're any better than any other distillery I've been to. The employees were nowhere to be found for a good 15 minutes of my visit. I understand that I came in around lunch time, but let's be slightly responsible when someone is in the store. Since nobody could be found I obviously didn't get a chance to ask about what it's like to work there because I left after 15 minutes of waiting. read more

Who wouldn't love this place!!!! It's a fun atmosphere with lots of things to look at. They do a great tasting as well as have a great tour. They have wonderful products and merchandise as well. It is a fun attraction whether you are a moonshine/whiskey connoisseur or not. read more

Stopped by on my way to Atlanta since I am not normally down this way. It was 1:30pm on Monday. Walked in 2 people were eating lunch from some other place and 3 people were looking around. I walked up to the tasting counter. No employees were any where. I read the menu, waited. I walked around and looked at the containers on the wall never saw an employee. I wanted to try some and possibly buy since I have never had but after about 10 minutes of nothing, I left. Too bad they don't want to give any attention to potential customers. read more

We stopped in right before closing and the two people working acted like they had better things to do other than make money. They gave us a few free samples of the different shine they had but really were pushing for us to leave so they could get to whatever plans they had after work. I get not wanting to work until 8 or 9 when you close at seven but if we had just been treated better than like we were inconveniencing them we wouldn't have stayed very long and probably would have ended up spending more money before we left. read more

Whoa! Friendly, assertively informative. But not the overbearing kind. Feels like talking to a friend over a drink just talking about yummy drinks. Also, yummy moonshine. They also have a whiskey aging barrel you can pick up. Really neat to check out! read more

I always make a stop at Palmetto Distillery when I visit family in SC. The rustic indoor setting gives you the feeling of being a large barn, but with adult beverages! ! Theres a large still inside that produces mash!! Also there's an area specifically for viewing a film about moonshiners that were making corn liquor in the area and foothills. There's several flavors to choose from, and if ya want you may have a sample to see which one ya like. Theres, apple pie, blackberry, regular shine, and a peach. They also have flavorings you can purchase to add to the regular shine to change the taste. There's the clothing assortment, hats/caps. Also cups, shot and tumbler glasses for purchase. Huge barrals are placed around the shop to display items and to add to the ambiance. Staff members are friendly, helpful and courtesies. Worth a visit! read more

It's hard to complain about a place that offers you free samples, a little information about the history and making of the moonshine, and has a cute shop on site. This place is seriously cool and free to check out. Like the petting zoo location, you get free samples to try here. It's not quite a full shot here either, so you are safe to drive afterward if need be. Their moonshine is TASTY as well. I'm a huge fan of the apple pie moonshine. They also have a killer dipping sauce you can try and/or buy. Their little shop has an assortment of products with their logo, as well as different mixers to change up your moonshine cocktail experience. Try the moonshine margaritas - YUMMO! It was wonderful that the staff took some time to explain the process to us and to talk about their distilling process. They were very knowledgeable and helpful. If you're ever in Anderson and looking to kill some time, I suggest checking this place out. read more

Everyone was really nice and welcoming. They gave us a brief tour and history of how Palmetto came about. The free moonshine tasting was very helpful in my decision to pick a flavor. I ended up picking blackberry and apple pie. There's more souvenirs, t-shirts, and other thinks taking up the space. What a great place to visit! And you get a personal tour anytime, just for walking in. Brian was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Very interesting learning, not only about moonshine, but the history of the building and the immediate surrounding area. Free tasting of some delicious jams, jellies, BBQ sauces and pickles. And, of course, a free tasting of the moonshine. Don't worry, it's not what you think! Really delicious. Try the many flavors like Apple pie, strawberry and peach. The moonshine comes in Mason jars. GO TO THIS PLACE!!! Take whatever detour you have too and go! The store is a repurposed, very old, red brick greyhound station. They've done a beautiful job with the layout. Even the bathrooms are totally adorable. The staff was very friendly and informative. They have samples of everything but I'm a non-drinker so all of the flavors where explained to me so that I could serve them properly. I have a lot of out of town and international guests in my home throughout the year. I am so excited to have moonshine to offer them. In every way my visit to this store was a delight. read more

A lovely restoration of an old building in Anderson. The front is the storefront which is 90 percent merchandise (t-shirts, candles, soap, hats, jewelry, glassware, lotion and various consumables like mixers, bbq sause and rubs). There is moonshine available for purchase along the back wall. A mason jar is the only size and after tax is like 28 bucks. The tour consists of walking around the store, very sad we couldn't go in the still room which is behind a plexy wall which is too foggy/dirty/tinted to see through. There was a little information on the process but in my opinion it was more about 'hawkin ' the stuff. Would hove been awesome to here more about distillation but it is what it is. There is a tasting at the end of 4 thimble sizes, one of each flavor they are trying to sell. The white lightning tasted just like tequila which I thought was odd but I'm not really a corn liquor expert. The strawberry was just gross. Very artifical tasting and they explained they don't put real fruit in it because it discolor the product, I was not in love with the shocking pink color, peach was okay. Less fake fruit flavored and I could see it in a cocktail with some soda water and mint leaves. Apple pie, the favorite of well pretty much everyone that's not me was also too fake tasting and not as spicy as I would have liked. It ended with 3 staff members staring at us while we browsed, we felt pressured to buy something so we bought the apple pie flavor for our neighbor. ..otherwise meh, not my cup of moonshine. read more

If you list your hours on your door and on your website you should NOT close 10 minutes before that time. People drive from some distance only to get there and find them closed. What a great place! Tour was very informative without being too long and drawn out. When you first walk in there are samples of the different types of jelly, jams, hot sauce and BBQ sauce, which is very tasty. After the tour you go over to the sampling table for some whiskey and moonshine. You get a little taste of each of their products, they also offer tasting of the moonshine mixers if you're interesting in purchasing one of those. I would recommend taking a half hour to stop in when you're in the area, well worth it. read more
