I went to see Dr Lipper after finding her name on a website listing physicians who specialize in MTHFR gene treatment. My visit with her was less than confidence-inspiring and wildly overpriced, but more troubling is the fact that some of the information she gave me was completely false (I consulted other physicians and cross-checked with research databases). She was unable to answer some basic questions, and resorted to pulling out an old notebook from a workshop she had attended (which is apparently the extent of her formal training on the subject), and said, "I should re-read this".
In addition to her unfamiliarity with the facts, she was also unprofessional, and refused to allow me to record the meeting, something I do routinely due to a memory disability. This is a red flag: if a physician refuses you the right to document your visit, particularly in the absence of a health advocate, it is possible they either don't know what they're talking about or have some other motive to sidestep accountability.
Most bizarre was when she asked, "Where does your money come from?". Perhaps this is why I was then charged over $700 for an initial consultation (with a good portion of the time spent discussing her new dog), supplements, and a saliva test, all out of pocket. I returned what I could, which was refunded, and chalked the remainder up to a very expensive lesson. read more
