I own an Auto Upholstery/Auto Body Shop down the street and this place has never disappointed me. Everything on their menu is good. The place is just a good spot for great Mexican food, it is NOT a Michelin star upscale restaurant like some unfair negative reviewers here that think they're professional food critics. Complaining about lack of music, bad lighting, and not inviting vibe? Are you kidding me. This is a great little gem here in Chatsworth for some quick good Mexican food. The service is always great, they always greet you with a smile. They make the food quick and it's always great tasting. I love their condiments sections where they have all you can take lemons, jalapenos with carrots, red radishes, red and green salsas. I don't like misleading bad reviews of places like this because it's NOT a fair review if you go to places just to critic their walls and decor. Some people are just little complainers. This restaurant deserves the world. I got there just as they were closing the restaurant, there was a gentleman and a lady wrapping everything up and locking the doors, they did not hesitate to invite me in and start the kitchen all up again just to get me fed. These staff have real heart and is a great example for the Latino community. I truly hope they are getting paid enough for this as they did not have to do this at all. If you're driving down Topanga Canyon Blvd. in Chatsworth and craving Mexican food without any frills, this place fits the bill in a very unremarkable way. We had initially wanted to have the Sunday brunch buffet at El Capitan in Simi, but we were informed that they discontinued their brunch buffet until next summer. We dropped by Carnitas Michoacan, located at 9849 Topanga Canyon Blvd. in Chatsworth. The dining room feels like a neglected afterthought. It has the vibe and feel of Taqueria Jalisco No. 3 on E. Los Angeles Ave. in Simi Valley. Bad lighting,uncomfortable booth seats, and walls that could use a fresh coat of paint. Music is absent, making conversation feel oddly quiet. The overall vibe is functional, but not inviting. We should have walked out, but decided to give it try. The restaurant has a white sign bearing a capital letter "A" from its last health inspection by the Los Angeles county health officer. Our service was adequate and friendly. The staff were polite and punctual, but there's little warmth or personal touch. The menu offers familiar Mexican staples: burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and a couple of vulnerable "specials." The flavors are basic and lack punch. Nothing stands out - no bright salsa zing, no smoky char, no distinctive seasoning. The portions are generous enough to fill you up, but the dishes feel like they exist more to satisfy hunger than to delight the palate. Presentation is plain: standard-issue plates, standard-issue garnishes. There's no attempt at flair or personality in the plating. We tried the quessabirria plate, the breakfast burrito and the huevos con carne plate. Quesabirrias arrived swimming in grease, with a greasy exterior that clung to the tortilla and begged for blotting instead of savoring. Not good. Flavor was muddled. There wasn't a clean balance of chiles, spices, and tang. The greasy coating overwhelmed any potential depth. Filling but low on presentation and quality. The consomé was tasteless and disappointing. The chicken breakfast burrito fell apart after just a few bites. The tortilla was too soft and understretched, leading to a messy, break-apart experience. Filling distribution was uneven, large pockets of bland egg and underseasoned chicken contrasted with overcooked rice or beans in places. Inconsistent from start to finish. The Huevos con Carne dish was flavorless, lacking the warmth and seasoning you'd expect. There was no notable spice profile or brightness to lift the dish. Components felt like they were assembled without cohesion, resulting in a dull overall taste. Tender meat, but the seasoning is repetitive and unexciting. The toppings are basic, and the salsa is mild to the point of bland. Prices are reasonable for a casual dining spot. You're paying for efficiency and familiarity rather than culinary quality. If you're not chasing bold flavors or a memorable dining experience, you won't feel nickel-and-dimed here. This is a "get-the-job-done" Mexican dining spot: it fills you up, it's cheap enough, and it's steady. It's not a place you'd bring someone for a special occasion, nor a spot you'd return for the personality of the food. If your standards are strictly for filling okay Mexican food with no surprises, it will do. Hell, if you have a bad hangover then this place will do. But if you're after vibrant flavors, culinary creativity, or a warm, inviting restaurant soul, you'll be disappointed. Keep driving down Topanga Canyon Blvd. and don't stop here! read more

I went here for dinner because I'd read an Instagram post from a local charity that was thanking this restaurant for donating meals to their volunteers. The agency called "Angelinos of Hope" was really standing up to help people and definitely stepped up their actions when raids starting happening all over LA and immigrants were affected. Anyway I like to try hard to support local business and I live in Chatsworth and when I read about them supporting Angelinos of Hope I knew I had to eat there! The food was delicious. I must be honest though, I am a basic old white lady. So I'm not the one you should follow when it comes to these dishes. It was amazing (we got enchiladas for our family) and the sauce was so savory and sweet and the beans were perfect. I will be going back again after my first successful trip. I love the warm vibe there and the employees were kind and friendly as well. I feel lucky this restaurant is in my town AND they give back to local nonprofits. Helping people through nourishing them with incredible food is for sure my love language! read more

Nothing fancy, but a very clean restaurant and a big diverse menu. I've been here numerous times and everything I've gotten has been delicious. Most recently I got Carnitas tacos, which were very tasty and generously filled. I also got the Sopa de Rez. Very yummy soup with a large serving of meat and vegetables. Went there to pick up an order for my wife. All I knew is that she ordered tacos and place it under my name. The young lady that was at the register had literary no customer skills. She asked me if I was picking up a combo of tacos, I told her I didn't know. Just knew it was tacos and the order was under my name. She asked a couple of times and I said it's under my name. I then said is there another person order with my name. She was rude and after I paid she threw my change and receipt by slamming it on the counter and walked away. We had been here 3 times now because it's a few steps away from our home. I will never go back here. They're also a sit down restaurant and have no bathrooms for guests. If you dare to ask for the bathroom they would not let you use it. They use the excuse that is against health regulations. Chavelas Tacos, Viva La Fiesta and even Los Toros is a way better choice just around the corner. They all have AC, bathrooms and better Atmosphere. read more

My boyfriend's favorite burrito spot growing up, mostly because of the quality of their tortillas! We both got Al pastor burritos which were flavorful and full of rice and meat. I actually bookmarked this place when I went to Mini's Croissant a while back. The parking lot is a good size for a plaza like this. The restaurant is right in the corner of the lot. It's nice and clean when we walked in. I did notice that they had their AC on blast when it was about 50's outside. Luckily, I had my sweater on, but I can see why they crank the AC up due to the chili sweats you will get when eating here. I ordered the 3 taco combo (buche, tripas & cabeza) with a large Jamaica. My wife ordered the lengua burrito. While waiting for our food, I visited the salsa bar which was laid out with picked carrots, radishes, red/green/jalapeño sauces. I am honestly surprised with these condiments as they all tasted great. The carrots were not soggy and still had texture and was pickled to my liking. The red & jalapeño salsas were pretty tasty. I've never had jalapeño salsa or maybe never knew it was jalapeño as I always thought it was avocado. Anyway, it was really good and I went back for seconds. It had a savory taste to it like they added meat drippings or something. Can't explain, but it was good. I didn't think it was spicy, but it does creep up on you and makes your head sweat a little. The red salsa was also good. I didn't think it was that spicy. Both added to the dishes for sure. My taco combo came with rice and beans. I thought the rice and beans were just ok. The buche and cabeza were both tender and remind me of the street tacos I've been accustomed to. However, the tripas were probably my favorite as I had them cook it crispy. Not sure if they threw it in the fryer or what, but it came out crispy and not too chewy when I get them from the taco stands. It still had that fattiness and tasted more like chicharrones. Definitely getting this again next time I come here. The lengua burrito was good, tender and fatty. The Jamaica was actually really good. It wasn't water down and had the right amount of sweetness. Overall, I will definitely come back here again and make this one of my go to spots when I want good authentic Mexican food. read more

Living in Simi.. I have had a great experience with the same named restaurant on Tapo.. When they closed.. I was so disappointed.. Not only did I love the food, but I used to take Christmas cookies and Easter candy to the family.. and they would give me SALSA!!! I missed that salsa so badly.. My wife has procedures once every 3 weeks in Woodland Hills and we happened to stumble upon this.. and really went because of the name.. What a find.. GREAT people.. the owner is so friendly and even offered me a large cup of that delicious salsa roja with my... yep.. 6 Pastor tacos.. Highly recommend this place not only for the food.. which I will sample more of.. but the wonderful staff that smiled and chatted.. I will be going back on Monday.. Came here for lunch with a bunch of coworkers when I was working in the valley. It was really busy weekday lunch time, but we were able to snag two tables for our large group. I was feeling super hungry so I got the wet burrito with beef. Even for a big eater like me, that thing was MASSIVE. Of course I downed the entire thing and was STUFFED for hours, haha. They have lots of little condiments like pickles and sauces for you to add on the side. The place is simple and in a strip mall, they serve on styrofoam plates, and nothing about this place is fancy. I am a total Mexican food lover!!! My co worker suggested her "favorite" spot.... I'm always game to try a new place. It's a small place in a shopping strip kinda far for us from work but we went anyway. I was so glad we went.... I was asking the person taking my order questions and she offered for me to try the "pastor meat" . I debated between the asada vs pastor and ended getting the pastor. OMG..... My wet burrito was so good and it was big. It tasted so good with everything in it. I was ready for another one the next day. to start off the Food was Great. lots of authentic taste and seasonings used in the dish and it was packed with meat the portion sizes are no joke there huge well priced as well , the service was great a lady asked what kind of salsa You'd like with your meal and they're overall extremely friendly and good at what they do. This place is pretty gross, but since I was working on a project close by before, and now again in the area, I thought I would try again... The fish tastes like it has bleach in it. Not sure how or why, but has this odd amonia smell. Even just recently the place is pretty dirty, and due to the bug going around they have taken advantage to cut back resources that saves them money, like no more salsa bar, no more tables outside...Really a shame this spot is taken up by such low quality stuff. The thai place in the plaza is pretty good. Then you got Subway, which is better than here, but, that isn't saying much. I have to say, it is very uninviting. They are not happy to be working, and you get the vibe that they want to take the money and count it. Thats it. I was reading a recent review claiming it is fresh food every time with large portion and cheap price. This is NOT the case....It maybe made to order and is fresh, but based on what? And it is not cheap, the burrito was $12 So from my past 2 star review, and due to their response and cutbacks that they chose to do, I have to give one star. read more
