I came here after a gym workout at planet fitness to undo my hard work :p. There was a 30 minute wait but it took about 40 which is no biggie. I got the fish and chips and the fish is huge. Value is on point but long story short, I don't think the wait time justifies the value for me. With the amount of fish and fries being fried, the frying oil can lose its freshness quick which can be seen with the French fries. PRO-TIP: CASH ONLY! Truly a hidden gem in La Puente. It's in the same plaza as Planet Fitness and what used to be the 99 Cents Store. Plenty of parking since it's a large plaza. There's indoor and outdoor seating. It's a bit aged on the inside, but that just gives it more character and you can tell it's a community favorite since each time I've been there and it was opened I always see people lining up or dining inside. Gives a very nostalgic, transported in time vibe. It does get a bit hot inside, but they have a fan turned on too. Service is to the point, fast, and nice enough to let us take their trays and condiments out and return them afterwards. We got their fish sandwich and of course their classic fish and chips. Honestly - very, very good. Huge portions, I mean each piece of fish was about 10 inches long (see photo). The egg roll was the size of a burrito and was only $1.65! The the fish was crispy, the slaw was excellent. It's a dive place and is cash only, which i laughed about - but good for them. Overall not all that healthy but hey, it's fish and chips. I approached the counter and was told there was a 30-40 minute wait per order. I thought about it and ordered. I went to the car and listened to the Dodgers. I picked up my order and can of 7-Up and sat inside. I sat with a man that was enjoying his fish tacos. I added malt vinegar and a bit of ketchup to the chips, some tarter sauce to the fish. The three large pieces of fish were hot, and the batter was very crisp, which made it a crunchy delight. The fish inside was moist and tender. The only issue I had was that the chips were over cooked- well done. I should have asked for a better batch but I didn't think about that until I was halfway through the meal. Medium grain rice, celery, eggs, and tiny cubed pieces of meat). Fish and Shrimp - 4/5- I enjoyed it! Plain flavor. Not overly greasy. Zucchini spears - 5/5 - I love veggies so this was a treat. Thick spears of warmed zucchini with ranch. Paired so well together. Fried rice - 2/5 - It's not the best fried rice I've ever had. It tasted too much like ketchup. Red Cocktail Sauce - 0/5 - Would not recommend it. I made my own sauce at home. I'm not sure what's the appeal. It tasted like straight wasabi dip. Cheap grocery store wasabi but red. Mixing it with the ranch or tartar sauce did not improve the overwhelming burn. The youngster ordered onion rings. He's autistic and can only tolerate beige crispy things so he happily enjoyed his side order. I tried two rings and they were wonderfully thin rings of onion in shatter crisp batter. I can see why the youngster was so happy to call them batter rings. He also tried a bite each of the fish, shrimp, and zucchini. A 4/5 from the youngster (tolerated each bite, didn't run to the trash can, and said no thank you without any negative commentary). Not a 5/5 since he didn't ask for more. It's a small location. At least two tables of four. Soda was $1.50 / can. Only thing I wasn't a big fan of was seeing the naked hands handle the fish and batter. But that was all that she was doing and it's deep fried so logically 98% of the germs are dead. It's fall / winter so my immune system needs some practice fighting some germs anyway.
