The sign at the front desk said all you can eat breakfast buffet until 2 p.m. for $10 we were seated and I went to order this deal and they wasn't having it. I then ordered the open faced roast beef with mashed potatoes, the waiter came back and said they were out of this. I then proceeded to order the Philly cheese steak sandwich with onion rings. We waited at least 35-40 minutes for this to come out. The onion rings were hard and mediocre warm, not hot. The Philly was so hot we had to wait a minute to dig in. The Philly had a good taste to it, would order that again but the onion rings are just too crispy and extremely greasy. All in all, too long of a wait and they were out of items, no breakfast buffet. We were a group of eight for dinner. The waitstaff was stressed because there were only three people working on a Friday evening. As a result it took more than 40 minutes between sitting, ordering and receiving our food. The restaurant ran out of one side dish (coleslaw). The replacement we ordered, broccoli, was cold. The dinner salad was missing several ingredients listed on the menu. Coconut shrimp was tasty, and the people who ordered Polish sausage and sauerkraut said it was good. We felt bad for our server but I have to say the overall experience was disappointing and I'm in no hurry to go back. read more

Thought I would give the Caremichael Inn another chance after almost 2 years since the last visit I had which wasn't all the great. Nearly 5 years ago I got hooked on the pork rinds served hot and crackling with an amazing cheese sauce for dipping. The entire menu was really good and I so wanted to love this local place again. I heard there were new owners now so I took a friend there on Saturday night. First thing I noticed was it looked like the entire staff was outside smoking, talking and on cell phones. We were the only people inside at 8 is pm. We sat in the bar side which I saw no longer served mixed drinks nor was there any entertainment like there used to be. I guess you don't need any entertainment for 2 people. I asked for the pork rinds and was told they no longer serve them, bummer. I asked what they would suggest and was told they had a good pretzel with cheese dip. Then my friend ordered wings. The table top was very wet so I asked for a dry towel. After that the waitress vanished and there was no staff at all. When the food arrived (the pretzel first) was like 4 big fat 4 inch long rolls with salt sprinkled on top and the bottoms were overcooked and not very flavorfull. The cheese sauce was better although there was not very much of it. The wings came and they weren't too bad, although we were never offered napkins and I couldn't find anyone to get some from until I had to get up and started going to the next room. Sadly, I felt as though they were just barely open and nobody really cared in serving. When the check came I was told it was one price for cash and about $3 more to use a credit card. I don't see how they are going to be able to survive much longer like this with so many better options nearby. read more

I'll start by saying the food I order was good. The staff were ok. Felt like a sore thumb sticking out but it was okay. I was giving a tour by my waitress of restaurant. I must say this this place has some very interesting or rather sad history attached to it. This restaurant was once a holding hub for slaves in the basement and on the second floor. Many slaves were tortured and even died in what is now known as CarMichaels Inn. They also sold and traded slaves at this location. The waitress explained how she felt the place was hunted and workers are scared to go into the basement or on the second floor. The history at this location has a stretch of interesting information even down to who actually owns the location today. Culture shock at its best. read more

Seriously, this is an amazing place to eat and experience! We found it by mistake when another place was closed for Good Friday. But how fortuitous for us! Carmichael Inn is actually two buildings, each with a rich history spanning over 200-years. The buildings each have the history displayed for all to see and read. Oh, and the food is really good too! A wide variety of comfort food. We had the Flounder, shrimp and grits and a chicken salad sandwich. All winners! Finally, the service was impeccable. Tammi and her staff were friendly and she was very willing to tell her unique experiences while working in the 200-year old haunted building. I won't spoil it so you can ask for yourself. This is one of our favorite breakfast places in east Tennessee. The location and history of the place are fascinating. You're dining in a historical inn/tavern! There are several options for breakfast--some of my party like the local favorites, named after the local fire department, for example, while I prefer to order a la carte from the menu. We went for lunch and boy were we disappointed. The charm of the building drew us in. It was a cold day and the place was freezing inside. The service was so slow that we almost left. It took over 30 minutes to get our order taken. Then after ordering 2 burgers, it took an hour to get and they were terrible! They were barely warm and the fries were cold and limp. Went here to celebrate Mother's Day with my family. My mom & I had the ribeye steak. They were perfect & grilled just like we ordered them which is rare for my mom who wants it well done (burnt). Mine was medium rare tender & tasty. The rest of the family ordered boring stuff like chicken strips, hamburger & grilled cheese but they loved them. Will definitely be going back to Carmichael's. The building is awesome. My wife and I went for dinner the other night early, around 6pm. They weren't busy, just a handful at the bar, so we got a table. My wife ordered the meatloaf and it was mushy, almost like it was a paste, and had a weird taste. She ate two bites and couldn't finish it. Okra, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese was ok. Service was terrible also. After the food was brought, the waitress did not come back for 15 mins to check. By that point, I had already got up and got my own refill on water. We ate lunch at the Carmichael Inn today and were very pleased. The Inn is a beautiful,old building and the restaurant serves very tasty southern home style cooking. I had a burger with fries that was excellent...up there with The Burger in Lenoir City. The fries had good flavor and were nicely fried. My wife and daughter had the catfish sandwich.yummy. Overdone hard coconut shrimp tasteless sauce, nothing in it .Had this before, but not hard shrimp and sauce had pineapple and was tasty. Not loaded mashed potatoes as ordered .Plain potatoes served. Salad came with hot meals, but when eaten after Salad, it was not a hot meal anymore. Mentioned to server wanted Salad before hot food. Excuse a large group, put the kitchen behind. Someone PLEASE send Robert Irvine to do a menu intervention! This place has such character and charm due to it's age and history, but the menu is basic cafeteria food with zero flair. Tried to order the roasted chicken, no luck they had none. Ordered the BLT instead. Big mistake. It was cold, soggy, toasted bread soaked in butter and way overloaded with cold bacon strips. Seriously, a punch in the heart would have served the same purpose. On the upside, service was very attentive (although I was asked if I wanted dessert in the middle of eating my cold soggy BLT) and since they don't serve wine, you are allowed to bring your own and they provide the glasses at no extra charge which I have never heard of but offsets the minuses. Seriously, the only thing I see wrong with this place is the chef and the menu. Get an overhaul in this department, and you will see an uptick in business. read more

Someone was paid a lot of money to review-down this place to 3 1/2 stars. Or they were told to do so. Or maybe they think the only good food is fast food. The bottom line is that this place is one of the two best restaurants in the area (Z Fish House is the other). The facility, itself, is quaint and gorgeous. The service is attentive, efficient, and friendly. But what makes this place shine is the FOOD! The freshly-made pork rinds (still crackling in their box as we were taking them home), the best pimiento cheese I've ever had, the Ultimate BLT with tons of crisp bacon and an option of fried green tomatoes, the corn succotash, the steak, all were delicious. We finally stopped in for lunch after driving by the place on the regular. I had the Philly sliders and my husband had the chicken tenders. The sliders were the best I've tasted, with tender meat, perfectly melted cheese, and delicious buns. The chicken tenders were perfectly cooked to remain tender and juicy. The staff was friendly and very pleasant. We will be back for these dishes and to try others. I think their burgers sound delicious. If the sliders were any indication, they will be!! read more

We have attempted to eat at this restaurant no less than 10 times and have been discouraged to eat there by being told there is a very long wait time. This usually only happens when one waitress is particular is working. My children have had the door locked in their face when they were walking up the steps by this waitress with no explanation why because it was not closing time. I called to speak with the owner but never got a return phone call from them. Tonight I purposely called when we were 5 minutes away to see what the wait time was, when we arrived the waitress told the hostess there was now a 45 minute wait time so when I told the hostess I just called she told me they all just came in. So in 5 minutes they were able to sit the entire restaurant and get their drinks before I could even walk in the door. My family of 5 has been coming here for years because the food has always been great but after tonight we will not be back. We are business owners and have also owned a restaurant, this is not how we treat our customers. I have never written a review for a business but enough is enough. read more

I really want the Carmichael Inn to succeed. It has a beautiful setting but the menu is nothing special. I had the fried catfish hush puppy dish. I really wanted it to be great but it was nothing special. The menu seemed most appropriate for a bar and if that's what they're aiming for I'm disappointed. It would be nice to draw the Knoxville crowd with a nice restaurant. I'd like to see some nice pasta (not simply spaghetti) dishes. Maybe some sea food pasta dishes.
