I was excited to find a diner near my location, unfortunately Metro Diner didn't quite live up to what I expect from a diner. Overall, I'd describe the experience as okay. The food was hit or miss, with the chicken noodle soup being the highlight and easily the best thing I had. The fried chicken tenders, on the other hand, were disappointing. They were dry and lacked the crispy, flavorful batter and overall "fry factor" I expect from good chicken tenders. The service was also subpar. Our server (Amber C) seemed more interested in sitting in a booth with a male patron than making sure her guests were taken care of. There were missed opportunities to check back or see if we needed anything and, as a result, the restaurant missed out on an additional $16 in sales -- along with what would have been a generous tip. We didn't order a beverage because we thought the prices were simply too high. As for the atmosphere, there really wasn't anything particularly memorable about it. We were hoping to find that classic, welcoming diner experience, but unfortunately, this just didn't leave much of an impression. It's not a terrible place, but based on this visit, I'm not rushing back. read more

Its so easy to miss awesome spots like this one when you are a home body. Went to MD with the Mrs. We arrived early after reading a few reviews about how busy they can get, and im glad we did. Our waitress told us they were known for their chicken and waffles. Normally, not a big fan of mixing sweet and savory on same dish (Sue me, I know im weird). So happy I ventured away from comfort. The waffle and strawberry butter were very tasty. But, that chicken. Oh my. Delicious. My better half had the bacon avocado scramble. I had a little taste. It was creamy and warm and yummy. Needless to say we will definitely return. Close to home, fun ambiance, lots of 250th birthday of the good ol US of A decorations and themes. Cant wait to try something else. P.s. Ate here again for dinner tonight because we liked it so well the first time. Cheese fries were great. Hubby got the fried chicken and son got the tenders. I got the fried chicken and waffles. The waffle wqsbgreat. The chicken was good to begin with, then realized it was pink, so I didn't eat anymore. The waffle was great though. Service was great. Been here a couple of times now. Solid 4/5 for me after these visits. The first visit was amazing - staff friendly and quick, food hot and to order, and inside was as you would hope for. Second trip lacked a little bit to that, with all the bread we were given (biscuit, muffin, etc) being a bit on the overly done side. The wait to get things was a little long...I know crowds sometimes can slow things down, so we took that in stride. Inside both times was clean, although I did have to repair the toilet for myself to ensure it flushed (handle was off), hope that made the day easier for someone else lol. Favorites so far are the hot honey chicken and anything and all things eggs. Anyway, will be back and hoping we just faced a one-off on that day! SYOY! read more

As she was bringing me a refill of diet coke she decided to comment on how unhealthy it was for me and that I should google what is in it, that's it worse than regular soda, etc. I don't doubt her logic but it was just an odd thing to hear from someone serving us and left me in an odd position as I wasn't sure how to react. read more

This was our first visit. We tried their signature Fish & Chips. It's was very good, fresh fish not frozen. You can see and taste the difference. The coleslaw was a nice change, not too sweet. Wanted to treat myself to breakfast this morning and decided to give MD a try to see if it lived up to all the hype. It more than delivered! My waitress, Maria, was so nice and the food was really good. By the time I thought about taking a picture, most of it had been scarfed down. I ordered the meat lovers omelette and added mushrooms; grits, which were really delicious for a restaurant, and toast. The raspberry tea was on point as it was fresh-brewed and not sickeningly sweet. For the first time in a long time, I was able to eat just about everything on my plate. Before I review the food, the service we received from Brandy was outstanding. We had an issue as the young hostess was so busy checking her personal cellphone that she took our cellphone number down incorrectly. Said 1/2 hr wait- after 45 minutes, we went back in and yep they texted wrong number- we were quickly seated. Apologies came from several staff and Manager came over also. I admired that. We sat down and our server was really nice and personable, told us some things we needed to know about the place since it was our first time. The menu is huge and there's so much on there. Well we went for second try and this time on Sunday morning at 8:30am seated at bar area at kitchen. Counter was dirty with coffee stains. We waited for at least 7 minutes for a greeting or a server. Finally one of the cooks asked if we wanted to order or needed coffee. We opted coffee. He brought it to us holding the coffee cups by the rim as he stated his hands were stinky and dirty. WTH? Got the fish fry Friday and it was very very good and super affordable. The fish was crispy seasoned perfectly and the fries were also fantastic with great seasoning on them. It also came with a side salad with a very great blue cheese. Connie was our server and she was such a joy. We were staying in Clifton for a handful of days but found this finer. We ended up eating there three times. We had chicken and waffles for breakfast which were excellent. Only order them if you have a huge appetite as you get half a chicken. My husband got the meat lovers omelet with biscuits and gravy and loved it. Ask for crispy hash browns. Another meal I ordered the pot pie and it has a layer of cheese between the pie crust and chicken and vegetables. What a happy accident. My husband ordered the open faced turkey and loved it. Decided to try Metro Diner after seeing a TikTok saying the food was good. I got the fried chicken plate. I have to say that it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was crispy and so tender. The mashed potatoes were mashed with the skins and had a brown gravy. They were seasoned well. The green beans are steamed and still have a slight crunch. I really liked them. My son had the fish and chips with broccoli. The fish was flaky and breaded perfectly. The French fries were crispy and seasoned with just the right amount of salt. The broccoli was cooked perfectly. My daughter in law had the turkey plate and the turkey was tender and juicy. We also had the cheese curds which were really good and the apple cobbler which was delicious. I will be back. I wouldn't do takeout. I've been to Metro diner before and everything was really good. However, this morning I needed to do curbside and it did not go well. I was able to order online easily however when I arrived, with no marked curbside spaces to pull into, I called the number provided...no one answered and the message said to keep trying back. I decided to go in to pick up my order. There was little apology, citing busyness (which did not seem apparent by the amount of available tables), as to why they did not answer the phone. I was told to proceed to another area to get my food. There I was told they were still waiting on part of my order, but the remainder of my food was sitting out. I only waited a few extra minutes and then was given my order. I live about 10 minutes away, and everything was cold. Again, dine in is good, but I they don't seem to have their carry out (and definitely not their curbside) figured out. They should take a look at their packaging for food travel, amongst other aspects of carry out/curbside. read more

We loved this place. We went around 11:45 on a Sunday. Line was out the door. I asked how long for a table for two and the hostess said "25-45 minutes or I can seat you now at he counter." If you're offered this, sit at the counter! We were front and center watching the food prepared with busy front staff yelling "hands" as plates were going out quickly. We got to see every dish on the menu and it all looked delicious! Major Kudos to the kitchen staff and the guy with the thick Rhode Island accent making sure everything was perfect! Pure professionalism and not a curse word uttered from the whole kitchen. I had the shrimp and grits, better than Paula Dean's in Charleston...by a long shot. Best I've ever had. Wife had the Bissell breakfast and loved every bite. Too much food to finish. Atmosphere was loud but the place was PACKED. We plan on going back soon earlier in the morning for brunch.
