I've been coming to this location every time I need to renew my driver's license. No complaints. Today was the most smooth visit that I've ever had to get my new Real ID. The worker at Window 14 was super helpful and happy which I was surprised. I think when coming to the dmv office, it helps to be prepared beforehand and know what you need to bring with you. Making an appointment online is super easy as well but people work so it's understandable why people show up without an appointment. The woman getting people ready for their appointments for the appointment line was also cheerful. Even the woman who took my id photo was kind. I wasn't there for even an hour. WHAT A JOKE! I came here to register a vehicle and after taking care of the paperwork I was told to pull around to the back of the building and someone would verify the vehicle's VIN. I waited 45 MINUTES for an employee to come out, while waiting cars in both lanes backed up to about 12 cars total. Then they all came out at once, THEY ALL TOOK THEIR LUNCH AT THE SAME TIME!! I really appreciate these hard working people who come to work so early, have to deal with disgruntled civilians who try to argue over late fees when there isn't anything that person at desk number 12 can do about waving those fees (like there is a special button they can just hit to wave $x.xx amount per day), I get it. I appreciate the hard work you do but you are definitely not my favorite place DMV and I hope to never come here again even though I know, at some point I will. . Arrived to this dmv location on Wednesday 1 pm to renew a drivers license as an REAL ID. I did all the work online , uploaded passport, bills, mortgage everything was done . Received a confirmation email that stated to print and show in the appointment line as the confirmation email serves as an appointment so all the dmv counter had to do was give me an appointment ticket & verify the uploaded info. Well fast forward, asian lady at counter goes " you have to go in non appt line, we dont do appts for that at this location anymore for months"! I made my husband ask for supervisor- gets Andrea who decides to get smart a$$ and say same stuff & than has the nerve to tell my husband to call DMV IT dept. AND COMPLAIN TO THEM. Well we called dmv corporate # and they told us that the confirmation email was correct & we were supposed to get a appt ticket not be kicked to the non appt line. This office wasted our time! She submitted a complain & Emily from Carmichael calls me and confirms her staff was wrong & they should have handled it better. I hope they get their staff on the same page, Andrea did not provide the customer service an DMV employee should provide. Call me crazy, or maybe I've been quarantined for too long, but my visit to this DMV was the absolute highlight of my day. I decided to spend my day off at the DMV so I could finally secure that precious, prized REAL ID. DMV appointments are currently unavailable, so I was determined to go in as bright and early as possible. I got there at 11AM. Good enough. News alert: the lines were incredibly short! I jumped in line with relatively no wait time (since I completed the online application/scanned my documents beforehand) and was in and out of the office in a matter of 15 minutes. Shoutout to the gentleman at the front desk for cheering as my number was called; the lady at the station for making me laugh until I nearly cried; and the gentleman at the door for sending me off with a celebratory farewell. Have an awful time unfortunately, waited 2 hours for my number. No problem it's the dmv. Was rushed by the employee who decided she understood exactly what I was there for and told me to sit down while she made a call, 30 minutes later unfortunately I had to leave to get ready for my job. I went back to her window when she finally decided to listen to what I was asking for. Told me to call MAU..i already did that that's why I'm here!!!! I waited 2 hours and didn't even talk to this employee for 2 minutes. I work in customer service. This DMV is pretty organized. I recommend setting up an appointment online beforehand. Service is much faster and you'll be in and out in no time. Make sure you have all your paperwork and just show up on time. When I arrived, someone checked me in and gave me a number. I only sat down for a good ten seconds before I was called up. This may be one of the best DMV's I have ever been to. I scheduled an appointment well in advance for my real id license renewal for a 9:00 am appt. I showed up and checked in and had to leave to get the paperwork that was needed to move forward; luckily I had it in the car so I was able to promptly return and get checked in without delaying my services. I sat in a chair for less than 2 minutes when my number was called. I reported to window number 23 where I was greeted and served by Anthony. Anthony was great! we had a conversation the whole time that he was helping me and I think that made the experience that much greater. Where the DMV can be mundayne and time seems to drag on- Anthony made the process run smooth and to get me in and out of there in no time and onto my driving test in the other room. The test is done on the computer; you enter a small room where you check in and they assign you to a stand up cubical where you do your exam. 25 questions multiple choice. Once completed you let a DMV staff member know, stand in line, get your photo taken and off you go if you pass. I would recommend to use this location and by all means make sure you make an appointment to save your wait time. read more

Let me start by saying this establishment in Carmichael is garbage. The first few interactions where I receive a ticket number and help for my title where smooth and very helpful. I came in cool and calm seeking help and guidance on what to do in my situation, instead i pretty much got a slap in the face and told "that's what you get". Although the front desk was helpful, the lady working in window 3 was extremely passive aggressive and was not knowledgeable at all. After talking with her for a few seconds about my situation she instantly went on attack mode and wasn't listening to a thing that I was saying. I asked for a managers help and she kept walking back and forth for validation that there was nothing they could do. After waiting in line to be called you would think your local DMV representatives would help guide you to a better direction, or at the very least not be so disrespectful by laughing at a situation you need help in but no. I was then told in order for me to receive any help with a new title I would need to wait half a year? Ridiculous. Customer service for sure at an all time low now a days. Especially when representatives don't know what do when they've run into a stump. No resolution to my situation and poor experience here at the Carmichael DMV location. I paid my fee, took my picture, and received my temporary paper id and was told my new one would be mailed to me within a month. Fast forward to 7/19, still nothing. I called the 800 number and was told that the person who helped me didn't go back into the system and complete the final step so my renewal was incomplete status this whole time. Went in this morning (7/22) and was told they don't know why it wasn't completed by the worker but I should receive it within two weeks. Very frustrating! read more

DMV is not the place that most would rate high, let alone five stars. This location totally is the epitome of superb customer service. Yes, you read that correctly. I had an impending appointment in the upcoming week, but having taken Friday 4/19 off from work, I decided that rather than take another day off, that I would take on DMV. When I pulled into the full parking lot, I had that feeling of regret, but parked and decided to grab my magazines and walk on in. This location is set up where everyone walks through an initial single line. I was greeted by one of the nicest women. I wish I had gotten her name. She was friendly, answered a few of my questions, and she was all genuine smiles. This is where they assist is making sure that all the services that you need are taken care of. They assign you number, and then you're left to hopefully find an open seat to settle into. My number was called before I really had settled in, and I was off to the window I was assigned to. I really love that the TV monitors not only show the numbers that are being cold, but also show the window that you need to go to. As luck would have it, the window that I was assigned to you was close to where I was sitting. I was greeted by another friendly woman who immediately asked what she could help me with, and I explained to her that I had had an impending appointment, but had wanted to take care of everything today. My appointment was for an eye exam for my drivers license, as well as, making sure that I finally had the real ID for my drivers license. When I set up my initial appointment online I went through the necessary steps online with making sure that I was registered, and had supplied DMV with all the information that they needed for my real ID. If you are looking for friendly tips, whether you show up for a walk in appointment, or you have an appointment scheduled, do yourself a favor, and make sure that you have all the necessary documents required. It will make your life exponentially easier going through the DMV process, and it makes it so much easier for the clerks that are trying to assist you. Remember, it's not their fault if you have forgotten your paperwork. Admittedly, I am an overachiever, and I made sure that I had not only the necessary basic requirements, but I also brought additional supporting documentation just in case I had missed something. After a quick fingerprint, my eye exam, and paying the $36 for my drivers license renewal fee, I was sent over to take a new picture. The DMV photographer was a total three peat, as she was just as friendly as the other two clerks. She took my picture, and assured me that it was a nice picture. Fingers crossed that when it arrives in the mail it will be. After my picture was done I had to go back over to the clerk that had previously helped me, and after a few minutes of finishing up paperwork on her end, I literally was done. My total time spent from start to finish was about an hour. This was without an appointment, and this was with being prepared, walking in with a positive attitude, and just hoping for the best. I would say that if I were going to give anyone another tip about DMV, and more specifically this location, I definitely would forgo arriving first thing in the morning but perhaps getting there around 10 AM like I did. The early morning lines had already died down, and I truly believe it made the process go by so much faster. Thank you DMV for such an awesome experience! read more

Placed two different phone calls, the first one was a very nice lady who answered my questions, the second call (placed within the hour) was a woman who was very short in her answers and had a nasty attitude. She also quoted me for an extra $100 than the previous woman did for the registration, when I stated I was confused about the change and didn't understand, she proceeded to get an attitude and speak down on me. I'll agree with most that this is your better-than-average DMV. But I'm not getting carried away about it. The employees I encountered were all friendly considering the crap they have to put up with, and the whole experience went about as good as it possibly could when I came in to get a Real ID. It's easy to fault a DMV for many reasons - the bureaucracy, the lines, the other customers. Most of this is out of the control of the actual people at any particular location, so considering what they are working with I give the team here their props. Because of COVID-19, most of what happens now takes place outside. One line to check me in, then waiting an hour before getting in another line to check that I have the appropriate paperwork, then giving me a number so I can wait until I get a third text to get me in a third and final line to go in and pray that the five varieties of identification I've brought align and I can once again drive legally. It's all a slow and frustrating process with a lot of waiting in a parking lot while fellow patrons who bothered to do little more than throw on sweatpants pace between cars, smoke weed and blast music. Probably the best part of the whole process was the gal who actually approved my new ID. Sitting at a desk inside away from the chaos in the parking lot, she politely and nicely led me through the process and was very sweet overall I know. It doesn't sound like a great experience, but compared with any other DMV I've been to, it's one of the better I've had. Chalk it up as one of those necessary evils we all have to deal with and consider this location one of your better options. read more

Austin at window 1 is simply amazing. I had a difficult situation that many told me they couldn't help me with. Honestly, many wouldn't even hear my whole story. After my son and I were escalated to Austin, everything was smooth sailing from there. He took the time to hear us out,understood our side, and came up with an amazing solution! There needs to be more Austin's at all DMV offices. He also should train the rest on empathy, sympathy, customer service, care, etc. He seriously needs a raise for dealing with not only customers but dealing with unpleasant staff as well. I know that the hassle of a visit to the DMV can be daunting ! Was pleasantly surprised by the Carmichael DMV. It was efficient , people were organized and friendly. I am new to the state and had heard the typical DMV horror stories. Special kudos to Alex and his supervisor for helping me through the process. Tips: DO get an appointment online....it speeds up the process. DO have all the paperwork needed if you're applying for a 'real ID". DO remember that they open at 10:00 on Wednesdays, not 8:00. DO concentrate on the employee rather than the general noise of the place. My only feedback is that the 'testing room' does not flow well ~~~ seems odd considering how well the rest of the office does flow well . Rees in testing office was helpful. read more

Showed up at 7:15 and waited in line in the rain with daughter for the 8:00 opening. No appointment. Why? Because daughter refused to wait for her appointment that she made online as that would delay her getting a permit for (*gasp*) another month. The line waiters are...for lack of a better word...an interesting crowd. One guy in particular kept inching his chair towards us despite the line not moving. Odd. And creepy. We never did get what we came here for as we kept having the wrong documents. The second trip out here with no results, I then decided to take my business to the Folsom location in which daughter finally got her permit. Bottom line, try to get an appointment. However I did see that even appointment waiters had to wait. Perhaps those that have an appointment don't get the normal Disneylandesque lines but more like the Fast Pass lines. read more

The level of incompetence cannot be described! The employees bitch about not getting paid enough to deal with customer attitudes, but the incompetence is what causes the attitudes! Had the most disappointing experience here. While being helped by a nice brunette lady, she asked what seemed to be a manager of some sort for help. An older Caucasian woman with purple hair (and an extremely tacky, dry, flaky, purple scalp). She had the nastiest attitude and talked down to me as if I was a child. I overheard her having the same disgusting attitude with an elderly woman as well. I truly can't believe how downright mean and nasty she was! For no reason. She had the most demeaning and condescending tone with a gross smirk on her face as well. Absolutely pathetic. Oh and the best part, everything that came out of her old crusty lips was wrong. I witnessed a rude employee yelling at customers. This employee yelled at an older gentleman because I suspect, that he was hard of hearing and the employee wasn't just yelling for him to hear her but she was being vicious and her attitude was condescending towards the senior citizen. The same employee also went on to yell at another customer who did not speak English as a first language. He did not clarify what state his friends car was in and she yelled at him so loudly when there was no need to be that rude. I heard all of this while I was being helped by another employee and considered myself extremely lucky I didn't have that employee help me. This happened early in the morning between 8:15-9am and I can imagine her attitude getting worse as the day went on. As another employee was helping me, the same woman came over and heard my question and she scoffed even though she was not the one who assisted me. Bad attitudes are contagious, I hope she's able to provide better customer service because it was horrible to watch her treat customers that way. Also, the customers she shouted at did not yell back at her. I saw them being nice and calm towards her even though they were being verbally abused by this DMV employee. read more

Hate hate hate leaving bad reviews... but wow. The man and women I spoke to were so cruel today. I was trying to apply for a California state license because I'm from WA. I just got married and moved here recently, so also trying to change my last name on my license. I made an appointment, pre-applied online, brought all the required documentation, sat for ONE hour, only for the man and the women to tell me they need the original marriage license. I have the copy of my marriage license because King County in WA does not issue original marriage licenses. Mind you, the social security office accepted the copy!! I was appalled. Today is my birthday on top of everything. I tried to explain to them the situation but they wouldn't even listen. Worst experience EVER !!! read more

There are plenty of employees directing people and they were all very helpful ( at least the ones that I talked to). I was in and out in 15 minutes. I wish all of my DMV experiences had been this smooth. 11/26/19 Still loving this place. Got there at 6:40 for the 7am opening. Someone came out at about 6:50 to hand out forms and segregate the group into lines by need. I was able to get my license renewal and photo and was out by 7:15am. No appointment.
