Getting a repair at Carman's Tailoring Studio was an odd, slightly uncomfortable and costly experience. Carmen was nice at first and straightforward about the alteration and cost. I asked for a further alteration. She said she would do this. I recieved a text saying my garment was ready for collection. When I went to fetch the dress she almost barked at me: ' your dress is not ready' after I had recieved a text from her saying it was. I then heard nothing for weeks and had to chase her for progress. When I finally went to collect the garment Carman claimed she had texted me about the cost of the final repair. I had recieved no such text. I showed her my phone showing I had had no text to this effect and she sort of mumbled. Won't use again the alterations were not terrible but the customer service was peculiar and the price on the high side. read more

Carmen was amazing! She has a beautiful studio in Covent Gardens. I took two pairs of trousers to get shortened and it was a very smooth process. I needed them finished by a certain date and she made sure they were ready by then. I received them back and they fit perfectly! Would 100% recommend and will be back for all my alterations! read more

They ruined my sequenced dress, bald patches and denied liability, i will be complaining further, as the females who altered a very important delicate dress have ruined it completely. Full refund was given, but no real apology/acceptance of the damage done, which host more than the refund. I am now going to another seamstress and paying more just to fix it in time for my important event. Carmen took in two dresses for me that were too big at the waist. the dresses had pockets but this was not a problem for her. The dresses now look like they were made for my body and the pockets are still there in their original spot. She also custom made a wrap dress for me. It was much more affordable than a DVF wrap dress and looks just as good! all in all, it took maybe 2 weeks for the tailored dresses and my custom made dress. Her prices are also extremely reasonable given the quality of work that she does. I will be using her from now on for any tailoring needs I might have. read more

Fantastic, Amazing, Wonderful, speedy and very well priced for central London. So I had bought a dress for a little lady and she wanted a little extra length so I went to see Carmen and I could see from the very first moment this was a lady who loves what she does and is also very good. Well 2 days later and I just picked up the little dress and it's amazing. She exceeded my expectations, was 2 times less expensive than a tailor in Soho and I must say was rather charming. Opportunist I had asked for a sewing service for some trousers Carmen made one pair and decided because she had a better offer in work to make more money on the day of me collecting the first pair she said she didn't want to do the rest of the work, fully knowing that I had been let down by a previous seamstress and that this was a rush job to turn around 4 trouser, I can't believe she actually said that too my face. I paid £150 for trousers that have waistband sewn the wrong way around and pockets are different on the inside, trouser have not been pressed not crease down the centre. In my 10 years of working in the tailoring industry I have never come across this type of behaviour from an established business. I feel like she saw an opportunity to make quick money. Also customer service was poor I don't know if it was because of how I looked she felt like she could be a certain way with me being that I look alot younger than I do and a woman of colour. Please take on this advice good customer service is being able to find a resolution when customer is unhappy and do not take on work that you don't normally do, it saves alot of time for customer to find someone else who can do the work, I'm a Bespoke tailor and a sample tailor so I know what it's like and was expecting more honesty. from one tailor to another. read more

I've taken two dresses to Carmen's, one had odd seams and one was three sizes too big for me (due to ordering a bridesmaid dress from the states). Carmen did such an amazing job on both of them. It's impossible to tell that they've been altered, they fit perfectly, the turnaround time is fast and the price is the best I've found! I've been happy after each visit to Carmen's. Even my grandmother, who is a seamstress back in the states, couldn't believe how well the bridesmaid dress had been altered. I would recommend Carmen to anyone as I honestly don't think there's anywhere else I'd rather go. The quality of her work is superb. read more

I recently took in several womenswear garments for alterations to Carmen, and, in each case, the results have been disastrous in some form or the other. There is a distinct lack of knowledge of sewing methods and garment structure, and the quality of workmanship is horrendously low. The pricing, too, is far from 'budget, and the overall quality of alterations is so poor as to beggar belief. It would make far more sense to take in garments to be altered to one's local drycleaner's, who would at least show some level of care of workmanship and adhere to basic quality norms. I have now taken all the items I had altered, or rather ruined, by Carmen to another place who specialise in alterations: London Fashion Workrooms, also in Covent Garden. The quality of their work has been astonishing, and it is obvious that they really do know about clothes fit, sewing methods, fabric and garment structure. The clothes look like they have been altered by the manufacturer, the quality and skill of workmanship is so good! I really do not know what I would have done, otherwise. I never write reviews, but I decided to write one in this instance as I really do not want anyone else taking in treasured items of clothing, only to have them hacked away at and completely and wilfully ruined. Carmen's Tailoring Studio deserves no stars at all. read more

Carmen recently altered my daughter's prom dress at very short notice and did a brilliant job! She was very friendly and listened carefully to my daughter's requirements, making pertinent suggestions which meant that not only did the dress looked amazing on the night, it was comfortable to wear and dance in. I then asked Carmen to alter the sleeves on a new jacket of mine which involved removing button holes and making new openings. Again, she did a great job and I've had many compliments on how well the jacket fits. Her prices are very reasonable and her location is easy to find. read more

I wasn't impressed. High prices for average work. I had a dress shortened there, a skirt, and a few pairs of trousers taken in, but it just wasn't what I expected for such high price. She did a bad job on the skirt but she just wouldn't admit it when I was showing it to her. Then I remember asking them about making me a bespoke winter vest for a coat and the lady just shrugged her shoulders and told me to look in stores(!). I haven't been there since. read more

Wow what can I say about Carmen and her amazing service? She is so polite and makes you feel very comfortable and welcome into her studio. I wanted some trousers shortened and i didn't have to book an appointment for a pinning session, no Carmen is more flexible and relaxed than that. I was simply able to turn up whenever was convenient, so I did, and then she carried out the pinning (and since a button so happened to have fallen off my shirt, she kindly sewed it back on for me there and then!) She pinned so carefully. It felt wonderful knowing someone who knew what they were doing was taking care of my trousers! When I picked up my trousers, she suggested i tried them on (confidence yet honesty too shown by her!) and needless to say they were perfectly altered! So if you want a professional seamstress or tailor with a warm smile and first class service, an overall enjoyable experience, yet wish to pay no more than your average high st drycleaner, and certainly MUCH better value, I totally recommend Carmen! read more

I've taken several items to Carmen and also recommended her to friends and colleagues. She took up an old Burberry Mac which had a complicated pleat at the back and sewn in lining and I was pleased with the result. She has taken in a suede skirt for my daughter which was neatly done and also altered an expensive leather skirt which Carmen worked on twice for no extra fee to get it absolutely right. I think it is important to communicate exactly what your expectations are to minimise any misunderstandings and be realistic about what can be done by the tailor! read more
