A&S has a unique house style with lived in elegance that is unlike any other suit that you will own. I flew in from the United States and immediately had my measurements taken. After two fittings and two weeks, my suit was ready to take home. Now A&S actually makes at least two trips to the United States a year. On a side note, Fred Astaire apparently had his suits made here in the old Savile Row location. I had my suits made here before Prince Charles. Clothing made here will be expensive, hand sewn, and vastly superior to anything off the rack. or that trash from Armani and Ralph Lauren.

They have been around for about 100 years and have catered to some of the most famous Savile Row clients. Their house style is different to most other Savile Row houses (except for the A & S pupils that opened their own businesses, like Thomas Mahon or Steven Hitchcock). There isn't anything stiff or military in their suits, and in this respect, they produce a completely different type of garment as compared to the likes of Huntsman. They use a "soft tailoring" approach with very little padding, and their suits have natural shoulders and fairly bulky sleeves. The chests and backs of their garments are also quite drapy, allowing for better movement of your arms and shoulders. Unfortunately, that takes away from the clean, slick look that many clients are looking for in a well-tailored suit. However, if you have broader shoulders, this may be the way to go. Unlike many other Savile Row tailoring houses, your initial A & S suit usually only requires two fittings and following orders often also go straight to the forward fitting and require one single fitting session. Their head cutter, John Hitchock has a reputation for being a little stiff and not taking to much input from his clients, and therefore, as a customer (especially a new one), you should be very forward about what you want and what you do not want. Otherwise, he will do everything his own way, and you are stuck with what he thinks is best (which is sometimes the best indeed, but sometimes not at all what you were hoping for). Apparently, in the past, the A & S pattern matching for pockets or sleeves was less than perfect, but it has significantly improved in the last time. I personally would not want my business suits to be made in the soft and drapy A & S style, but for tweed coats or more casual jackets or overcoats, I quite like their house style . If you want to have a closer look at the A & S style, you can take the Prince of Wales as a good example. In my opinion, with his sloping shoulders and his fairly broad hips, he would be better off with a more structured type of suit, but he still regularly makes it into the "best dressed" lists. Well done, Anderson & Sheppard !

I searched around the big savile row tailors and enquired about made-to-measure and bespoke suit prices. To be honest, their prices were way out of my budget range (£2000+) and as it was my first tailored suit, I was worried about the stuffiness in some of the other tailors that I had heard about. I then starting doing some research on Google, looking at reviews etc for other non-savile row tailors in the £1000-1500 range. I narrowed it down to a few tailors, one of which was Henry Herbert which I decided to go for after reading favourable reviews. Obviously getting a wedding suit made is a huge thing and you are essentially putting your trust in someone you have never met before. I have to say that Charlie who I dealt with was absolutely superb fitting in around work to come to the Savile Row office that he shares with another tailor. I came in a couple of times to pick a fabric, then once I decided to go ahead I had 2 fittings (each about 20 mins each to fit around work). There are some final tweaks happening and then the final suit will be delivered. It probably took a couple of months from start to finish. The suit looks superb a beautiful midnight blue cloth, and I also got a shirt made as well. The difference between the suit I came in and the one being made was obvious. Im sure the final result will be absolutely superb. Happy to give a reference. Highly recommended.

The leather jackets are literally made on the shop's premises. The geezer who runs this store is a fully trained Savile Row tailor. Personally, I wouldn't buy a leather jacket from this store, I would rather go to Lewis Leathers on Whitfield Street in Fitzrovia. General Leather Co. do not stock leather accessories, i.e. wallets, bags, and luggages. Only leather garments, I'm afraid.

While visiting a local tailor in London, I asked for a referral to a good leather tailor. The first name he gave me was Cromford. We visited all three referral's he gave us but, were blown away by Cromford and Pauline. I am 6' tall with a 37" sleeve length. As a result, it's almost impossible for me to buy anything off the rack. This is especially so with leather jackets. When I saw the quality of the leather, the workmanship and the names of some of their clientele, it was obvious Cromford Leather was the right choice. So, buying a made to measure leather jacket is not a quick process. We had to head back to the states in 8 days. And, the measuring and fitting process, along with the test fit can't be done within a day or so. Knowing we were on a short schedule, Pauline and team worked to have a test jacket ready for fitment upon our return to London 7 days later. We immediately headed for Cromford upon our return. They had the test garment ready for me. After making some very slight modifications, she confirmed the jacket would be ready to mail to me a few weeks later. Being a very expensive investment, it was a bit nerve wracking to leave London and wait for weeks to receive a jacket that might not fit. The end of the story is I couldn't be happier with the jacket! Perfect Fit!!! Extraordinary quality!! Fantastic leather! I get compliments on the jacket from men and women alike every time I wear it! They may be a bit pricey, but you can't go wrong with Cromford, Pauline and her team! They are worth every penny.

Rather than have a geezer poking at your bits with a tape measure in his teeth, the crew at Tailor Made have gone full future with a 3D body scanner. You still need to strip down to your shreddies (it can't see through clothes yet) but you're behind a screen and it's still less intrusive than a traditional measuring by a tailor. The studio clearly doubles as their office but it is bright and spacious with a comfortable lounge space at one end, literally stacked with style magazines and tailoring options. You can book a full-on style consultation but I was happy to just browse through the books of cloths and features until I found the bits I liked. Everyone there seemed really friendly and they were able to make suggestions without sounding like snobby fashionistas. All my details were sent to the tailor and a few weeks later I went back for my suit - I still can't believe how good it looks! Their tailored suits aren't "cheap" compared to off the peg high street, but you'd pay 4 or 5 times the amount for the same standard at a regular tailor's, and you might have to have one or two extra fittings before they get it right. Whatever you think about the body scanner, quality tailored suits at this price are not to be sniffed at!

All seemed to go well and Tom said that he would contact me in a few weeks time for a first fitting. The date of the fitting came round and Tom made some minor alterations to both of the suits - everything appearing to still all go well. Tom again said that he would contact me in a few weeks time when the suits would be finished. Eventually received a call from Tom to say the suits were finished and ready for my inspection. Visited his shop to try on and pay for the suits (please bear in mind this was only the 3rd time I had been to his shop - i.e. once to commission the suits and select the fabric, and the other time for a fitting). The suits were generally satisfactory apart from some further minor alternations that needed doing (i.e. the trousers were still too long). I explained to Tom that I was very happy with the suits and asked if he could adjust the trouser length slightly - this is when it all started to go wrong!!! Tom tuned to me and said that he was not going to adjust the trousers and that if I wanted them altered I would have to take them somewhere else to be done!!!! - surely the whole point of going to a bespoke tailor is so that you can have a suit made to your exacting requirements (something Tom has clearly forgotten!!). He then went into a further rage and shouted that he didn't need my business and that I was undermining him (all because I asked the for trouser length to be altered!!) Conclusion Tom is a complete twat who clearly has illusions of grandeur. So learn from my mistake - and do as Tom suggests - TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!!

Well, what is there to say about the tailor that allegedly was the founder of Savile Row ?…read more Since the early 19th century, Henry Poole & Co have provided garments to the mighty and famous. Over the centuries, they collected a variety of royal and imperial warrants from all over the world, although to my knowledge, no recent one. The original documents are on display in their shop, 15 Savile Row. And on a side note, apparently, Henry Poole & Co. even produced the first ever dinner suit for some British Prince Edward (NOT the late Duke of Windsor that is). Once the biggest bespoke tailor of them all, Henry Poole & Co. are now confined to a small shop, but unlike most of their Savile Row colleagues, they only produce bespoke suits - no ready-to-wear, no made-to-measure, no high fashion line. The shop interior is a bit old and stuffy, but then again, that is part of their charme. The proprietor, Angus Cundey is still a member of the founding family, and he loves to talk about the Row's history as well as his firm's tradition. The garments are of high quality, but due to Poole's size as one of the bigger tailors, the outcome of your order depends on your cutter and especially on the guy that does the actual tailoring. Like many other Savile Row tailors, they not only employ in-house coat and trousers makers, but have contract workers outside the Row that do some of their sewing. So unfortunately, their quality -although of undeniably high standard- is not always of the same level. And neither is the fit. Nevertheless, their suits are excellent, and the choice of cloth they provide is vast. Sadly, Poole & Co. have no type of garment they are especially famous for or exceptionally good at (except maybe the dinner suit). No Huntsman tweed, no Dege military cut, no Gieves & Hawkes Navy tradition, no Anderson & Sheppard soft and drapey cut. Their house style is very much middle of the road, decently structured shoulders and medium tapering. A great tailor, but due to their size and history sadly a tiny bit bland. The great thing about Poole & Co. though is their extensive travelling schedule to continental Europe and the U.S. That way, they are still the missionaries of the Row !
