Would not recommend to get a cake here. I've ordered cakes in the past and they don't seem to look like what i ordered. My cousin recently got her birthday cake and looked nothing like what she asked for. The lady even had a picture and told my aunt they're not sure they can do the gold but never said they can't make it the same pink she asked for. When my aunt called the lady became defensive immediately and did not even try to help or create another solution. She said since we had left the store we couldn't do anything, although my aunt said it looked off inside the store, the lady said they couldn't make it a lighter pink even though my other cousin has got a light pink cake in the past here. The cake looks horrible, very sloppy, and doesn't even look like they made effort to make it cute. My aunt spent 61 dollars on a cake that looks terrible and my cousin is very unhappy on her birthday. read more

Ok so I was looking for a bakery and came across this one. At first I was surprised at the fact they didn't really have a selection of bread at 8:30 A.M. I took a few pieces and thought I'd give them another try another day. I will say the bread I was able to take home was so soft and had great flavor. So fast forward to a week later and I go on a different day and even earlier. No bread AGAIN! I mean they had a few pieces of cookies and some other random breads but for the most part everything was gone! No conchitas, no elotes, no Bolio, no bread with butter, no croissants. I asked the girl if they were bringing more out of anything she said no and they sold out early. So I'm coming in at 7:30 and 8:30 in the morning and there's not much of a selection and that's all for the day too. So I try now a weekend around 8 and same thing, and same answer. I can't imagine a bakery selling out all their bread before 8 and then that's it no more. I wanted to give them a better review but sadly they never really had bread for me to even review. I even went as far as asking them if I can place a special order of pan dulce just so I can make sure I get some but receptionist said no. I love that they don't over bake massive trays of bread, and the selection is always rotating (which can be disappointing when your heart is set on a specific kind of pan dulce). Since I moved to La Habra - THIS is the spot I hit up for FRESH pastries, Muffins, cookies, etc! They even sell tamales - fresh made every morning!! It's the typical place - regular basic items - great butter dough for most of the items. But, for whatever reason the stuff here TASTES fresher than most places. There are a few reasons for this - the most obvious being the stuff is fresh. They make these cakes that are just outrageous!! BTW...buy it today - put it in an airtight container - and keep it for 5-6 days!! It stays fresh!! They make the ELEPHANT EARS - GIANT PALMIERS! Soooo good! Their "croissant" is also tasty as all GET OUT! It's not a French Croissant - no puff pastry layers. Instead, it's a Brioche dough that is simply YUMMM!! I had came here this past week & was really impressed. The owner is an Asian gentleman. He was really friendly & extremely helpful. I loved how he tried hard to accommodate me w/his excellent knowledge of Spanish. I had to burst his bubble & told him "me Spanglish", because my parent's were burnt out teaching it after I was born. He was really cool & sweet. He also appeared to treat his employees w/such respect, they also appear to have a good rapport & good customer base. He told me everything's fresh & what types of sweet bread, cakes & breads they had and asked if there was anything I wanted, told me about their tres leches cakes, & so on. I was really impressed. The bolillos smelled so good, seemed soft and I could just kick myself for not getting any. I don't really do (if any) panadera's in La Habra (since there's a few in Whittier & also drive through East Los Angeles all the time, I/we always make a pitstop to get on the way home). I just happen to be coming back from Brea & saw the sign & felt compelled to walk in & see what they were all about, also nice to know if I'm venturing out towards the OC, this place suffices the need in good pan dulce, among other things. Plus plus is he told me their hours, they are open early, like 6 am & I believe (not sure, gotta verify w/him again) but weekdays I think he either said 7 or 8 (maybe 9???) they close....most panaderia's usually close early evenings) Prices about average or maybe a little higher, but you definitely get what you pay for, pretty decent quality & they also have discounted bags of day (or more) old bread, I got one & it tasted really good compared to the so called fresh ones in a regular market. Always like to support small businesses so I decided to come here and try out their cakes. The inside isn't inviting but everything looks homemade and fresh so that was a plus. I was looking for a regular cake but they only had ice cream cakes or tres leches cakes available. Ordered a graduation stacked "book"cake that was perfect inside and out! My Mom had wanted to get the cake for my sons HS graduation and since we had already ordered the food from the deli next door thought we'd try Carmens. If you check photo#97- you can see how cute it came out. The first book was a rich chocolate cake with raspberry filling which was delicious. For the second book we wanted something different so asked for a confetti type cake... When we sliced into it, it was not confetti, but rather the most beautiful vibrant colored tye-dye colored cake I'd ever seen! And it was ever moister than the chocolate. It had an amazing fresh strawberry filling! The frosting was light and creamy but kept the design intact without melting as some cakes do with whipped frostings. I've been to this bakery before and never had anything negative to say until I decided to place an order for a custom cake. Customer service was good, they took my order and they asked me to email them my inspirational cake picture as an example. A one layered, round cake that feed 50 people cost me $100. I thought that was a bit much but it was a colorful fiesta Mexican theme party, so I knew that decorating the cake would take time. I specified that I wanted color and flowers surrounding the cake and the example picture also showed that. When I picked up the cake, I was extremely disappointed, a big rounded cake only had 2 iced flowers decorated on it. On the writing design I asked for 2 names since it was my nieces bday cake and the "&" sign was missing. They told me they ran out of pink icing and I told them to use any other color. One of the flowers also had smudged leaves. I wished I had time to asked them to add more flowers and fix the smudges but I didn't. I didn't even take a picture of the cake but I wished I did to add to this review. The reason I'm doing a 3 star review is for their customer service and the taste of the cake but I was extremely disappointed on the cake design after paying as much as I did. I will probably come back here for their regular cakes but not doing another custom cake order. read more
