Utica's Best Chicken Riggies (no olives, extra shrooms)
Lisa C.

I've dined at Carmella's Cafe throughout the last several years when visiting the Utica / New Hartford area. This occasion was my first take-out experience. Once again, I was impressed and not at all disappointed as the to-go food was equally as scrumptious as previous meals. Of course I ordered Utica's Best Chicken Riggies! I paired this with a cup of Chic-O-Rina soup. I exchanged the olives for extra mushrooms. My cousin ordered the same but had hers prepared the normal way and paired with a side salad. We also requested bread which was accompanied by delicious whipped butter with herbs. The food was delicious and the portions were plentiful allowing for leftovers. Our meals were bagged and ready upon arrival. I highly recommend Carmella's and specifically, the chicken riggies!

Chicken parmigiana

Decent place that serves mostly Italian food but also has many traditional American items in order to satisfy a larger variety of food preferences. The prices are quite high on many of the items, and not everything is of the best quality or taste. I had the herb grilled chicken breast, which was quite dry. In fact, the best part was the entire broccoli crown I had on the side. While I might normally give this restaurant 4 stars, I bumped it down to 3 because for a restaurant that is as popular as this one and has been around for quite some time, there are not nearly enough parking spots, and some people in our party of 6 had to park in a different restaurant parking lot and walk over.

We visited The Nest Tavern and it was very good!…read more We were on a mission to take a long and winding ride through the country to see some early fall foliage, and I had been wanting to check out The Nest Tavern, located in the quaint area of Apulia Station, right near Lafayette. there was plenty of parking available on the right hand side, and we walked into the VERY RUSTIC and cozy bar/restaurant. A very busy, but friendly bartender informed me that they didn't have waitress service, but customers could simply order at the bar and then be notified with a convenient little remote buzzer that their food was ready. We both ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger, which had nice sautéed mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese on it along with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. We took a walk on the wild side and ordered tater tots along with our burgers and they were very tasty with a little ketchup drizzled on them. Yes, we normally opt for slightly healthier sides with our meals, but the tater tots sounded and tasted really good! We both devoured our meals and finished every bite and truth be told, did not eat another thing again that day because we were so full. One thing I liked about the is that the restaurant has these nice little, square stainless steel mesh, condiment caddies with everything you need in it that you can take right to your table. Another great feature about this establishment as that they routinely have live music performances every week from May through September and have a tall, covered, wooden pavilion for the bands to perform under with ample seating, tables, and bar service available. Our bill came to just $30 plus tip and we thought that was very reasonable, considering the friendly atmosphere, good food, and quality service. We will definitely be back, perhaps in the spring when the trees are blooming, and the first band of the season is ready to hit the stage. Food: Service: Atmosphere:

We arrived just as a local band was getting ready for a three hour set (4-7pm) on a Sunday afternoon. Cover charge was $5.00 each. There were quite a few people there, but there was still room to sit in the spacious outdoor deck/stage area. There's also an outside bar area to grab a drink, instead of having to run inside to the regular bar. Food was available, but we did not try anything. The indoor vathrooms were pretty small, but served the purpose. The music was very good, the sound was loud enough, without blaring out of the speakers. There's a roof over the outside deck, but it's in different sections, so the sun does shine though in areas, making it a little hot when it's hitting you. Our only complaint would be the amount of people that were smoking. There is no way to get away from the cigarette smoke wafting in your face. Other than that, it seems like a great venue to enjoy some live music, a drink and a bite to eat. We definitely plan on going back.

I thought my coffee would be right up but it took many minutes. I almost left. The cupcake was small but good (fluffy cake, sugary frosting). Then I noticed the sign that said everything was gluten and dairy-free. Surprise! When the coffee was ready, the cream was put in for me. I guess it was nondairy. The coffee was warm like a keurig makes. I had noticed Lunch menus in a wall pocket and Brunch menus behind the counter. So this place is actually full restaurant for people with gluten and dairy allergies. The lunches all seemed to cost ~$18 and seemed inventive. Fries were available as a specialty. There were a lot of tables in the long, cool, dark room. It seemed like a decent place to have an undisturbed meal while talking with friends.

However, if there is a chance that Swifty's management may read this, along with fellow diners, it may be helpful for the future. The overall experience, food, and service was good. Clearly, this place and its 2 sister locations know how to be successful. But what we experienced could either be because a rogue chef or location manager is trying to cut corners - or - it could be the philosophy of the company to try and nickel-and-dime the customer to reduce costs and take advantage of those who won't notice. My boys and I ordered 20 wings to start, my oldest had a burger to follow, and my younger really wanted to focus on wings, so only ordered fries. I had the. Cheeseburger wrap with onion rings and coleslaw. Wings: crispy, tasty, and really good blue cheese. BUT...when they came to the table, the baskets looked light. So... WE COUNTED THEM. ONLY 17. My (as the menu clearly states) "half pound burger in a wrap" was probably 1/4 of a pound light. Wait til you see the photo. So, all the good service and reasonably good food was ruined by Swifty's trying to either take advantage of customers incrementally hundreds of times a day (order by order) - or - they have a location chef and manager who tolerate food leaving their kitchen that is not as advertised or up to the standard which allowed them to open 3 locations. It's one or the other. Will we be back? I don't know. We really wanted this to be great. We live in the Northwest Corner of CT, my son goes to college in Rochester, this location is literally (to the mile) half-way between. We make the trip weekly due to his athletics schedule. We wanted to be regulars. Will probably look elsewhere next time. 2 stars for the front of the house service. It was excellent. And the blue cheese dressing. It was fantastic. If you go - count your wings and make sure what the menu says is on your plate.

Well... it had been a very, very long time since I last visited Delmonico's. And sometimes going…read moreback to a restaurant from your past can be a little like looking at an old photograph....you remember it one way, only to realize that your perspective has changed. Back in the day, Delmonico's was the place to go when you wanted to dress up, celebrate something special, and enjoy a higher-end meal without having to travel far. At a time when there weren't nearly as many upscale dining options around, this definitely felt like an occasion. And let's talk about the atmosphere because there is absolutely no mistaking the theme here. Think Italian mobster meets supper club. Mob-related actors and photographs adorn the walls, Frank Sinatra is playing, and the dining tables are tucked into little private nooks. They really lean into the whole experience -- and honestly, you either love the theme or you're going to find it a little... cheesy. Coming back with fresh eyes, I found myself realizing that what I once considered an upscale dining experience now feels more like an expensive, heavily themed steakhouse chain. This particular location was once an Applebee's, and while they have certainly given the place a complete makeover, I couldn't help but feel that a tiny bit of the Applebee's DNA was still hanging around. The restaurant has also had its share of challenges and negative publicity over the years, particularly surrounding staffing and cleanliness. That said, our experience was actually very good. Our server and the staff were terrific, the food came out exactly as ordered, and everyone was attentive to our needs. I ordered the Classic Delmonico, their signature steak, and it was cooked perfectly. I requested no pepper seasoning and they got that right ...always a win when a simple request actually makes it to the kitchen! The steak was enormous, and I had enough left over to make another meal out of it. Meals come with pasta as a side, but I opted to upgrade to a vegetable. Enter the asparagus... which apparently had gotten into a serious relationship with the pepper shaker. It was covered in pepper. Luckily, nothing a little napkin intervention couldn't fix! So after all these years, where does that leave me? The service was excellent, the steak was good, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere is certainly memorable. But when I look at the overall experience versus the price, I think my dining dollars would go elsewhere. For a special occasion, I would personally choose a smaller, more intimate steakhouse or upscale restaurant where the food and atmosphere feel a little more elevated and less like a chain experience. But I'm still glad I went. Sometimes you revisit an old favorite and discover it isn't quite what you remembered. And sometimes that's okay. The restaurant may have changed or maybe my definition of a special dining experience has simply evolved. Either way, it was worth the trip down memory lane. Would I go back? Probably not for a special occasion. But I'm glad I finally went back after all these years, if only to see whether Delmonico's could still live up to the version I remembered.

Our room also had plenty of photos of Tony at all stages of his career.
