My granddaughters favorite restaurant. I love crunchy tacos. I was surprised they used a fried flour shell overstuffed absolutely delicious and very filing the charo beans and rice were good. The house Margarita was excellent. The only letdown was they were out of churros very disappointing. My husband had the Chimichanga he said was great. I ordered a mango Margarita on the rocks with salt rim, we had queso as an app, then two of us had the chicken and steak fajitas, and the chicken enchiladas. While the app was pretty good the steak fajita platter had no meat on it. Like seriously look at the photo. I was disappointed but hungry so I just ate what was there. The chicken enchiladas were unremarkable, thin on the filling and flavor. Sides were buttered corn, pinto beans and refried beans. They were better than the mains. Had an excellent, recent visit to this particular Carmelita's. It wasn't busy on a Friday afternoon. My waiter was wonderful. I can't recall his name. My go to here is just a normal bean and cheese burrito à la cart it is not super fancy I don't know if it's the nostalgia but it's what I order every time I come. The salad was good and fresh I had the Italian dressing. It comes in a packet. I also enjoyed the queso, very well-made. My family usually orders the taco salad or the chimichangas or the chicken quesadillas when they come. I also really enjoy the sangria that they serve. On some nights at certain establishments a mariachi band walks around entertaining the guests. That is a crowd favorite when that happens. read more

My first time trying the Ulmerton Rd iteration of a St.Pete/Pinellas County institution. I had the Durango combination, which consists of a taco, tamale and ground beef enchilada. Everything was good and tasty. The chips and salsa to start were good, too. This is a solid choice for Mexican food. Nothing spectacular, but consistently good. Occasionally the meat is saltier than I like, and they always allow me to choose something better or less salty. The Ambiance of the store is okay and I trust in them to fulfill my food request with high standards. I've enjoyed eating carne asada taco, Mexican pizza and most recently tried the tamales which are now my go to order. Saturday 2pm is not too busy. We were seated without a wait. We did wait about 20 minutes before the server came to the table. They seem to have a staff shortage. We ate a lott of chips and salsa before our food arrived. I ordered the chili rellano. It was ok, kinda bland. The restaurant ambiance was pleasant and decorated as you would expect for a Mexican restaurant. Very disappointed. Take out order- burnt taquitos and chicken bones in food. Get all the way home and find this Sh**! I know they are usually a little crispy but this was burnt to a crisp and put on a bed of dirty lettuce. Then when tried to pick thru to see if any of it was edible, found big chicken bones that most likely would have caused some damage to esophagus or stomach lining. Gone way down hill. Carmelitas has some pretty awesome food. I almost always order the flautas shredded chicken on a corn tortilla with the California Sauce. This particular location has a full bar and today it was 2-$12 Margaritas. The one thing I would ask of this place would be a decor upgrade but otherwise worth a try. read more

So, I'm a transplanted Californian. Mexican food was plentiful there! I noticed here in the East Coast that "Mexican" also counts as South American. Many restaurants have a very different taste I'm used to. Carmelita's is a real taste of authentic Mexican food! The portions are generous for sure. The service struggles a bit, but they are usually busy. You may have to wait a bit to get seated and served, but the kitchen & chefs are on it for awesome flavors! I have a late lunch here. I walk into the restaurant at 2:20 pm and they have two table occupied. I was sit immediately. The furniture is a bit old. The table is a bit sticky. The waiters were nice and courteous. I got the steak taco with rice combo. It is $9.95. The food came out in 10 minutes. The tortilla is a 8 inches flour tortillas. It is big and they have to stick the tortilla with toothpick. The steak is regular steak nothing fancy. No special cut section. It is definite good with fill up you stomach. They guacamole, cheese and salsa for the add on. The rice is nicely cook and typically prepared. Before the meal come, they provide the chip and salsa. The salsa came in a small dish. It is easily finish with less than 10 scoops. I have to ask for more. Overall is not the five star restaurant. Service is good. It is done that check off deal. read more

We haven't been by here in some years but the TriCity shopping center is awaiting demolition and renovation. We were instantly greeted and seated. We ordered the cheese dip(queso blanco). For entrées, I ordered the Vegetarian Combo and my partner ordered the Enchiladas Verdes. I know I don't seem like the type to order a vegetarian dish but I love this one. It comes with a whole bean layered tostada with cheese and topped with a generous amount of tasty guacamole and a cheese filled chili relleno, I opted for the cheese enchilada and the Mexican rice. It was the lunch portion but it was a whole lot to eat. The Enchiladas Verdes lunch portion comes with two large chicken enchiladas covered with their verde sauce and then covered with a seasoned sour cream sauce. The dish came with one side dish; rice was chosen. The chips and salsa were plentiful throughout the meal. The service was speedy and pleasant.
