What a great Mexican Restaurant. I had been here before earlier in the year and swore I would never be back. About 5 months ago they had a change in the menu. We've been eating here for a few years. We come here often. The food, the people, the cleanliness and atmosphere is consistently very good. It's one of our comfort food places. I feel that, of all of the local Mexican restaurants in the area, I get the best value for my Mexican Food dollars here. They have the typical Tex Mex stuff which is pretty solid. But more importantly they also have some dishes that fall outside of the realm of the typical Tex Mex type of food. Things like the Adobe Chicken, anything A La Creme, Pollo Asado, anything with the Chipotle Sauce, Tarasca Soup (my favorite) ... Of course there is the more extravagant El J's Poblano Relleno served in a scorching hot volcanic rock bowl. And the Pina Loca is very tasty and fun. Today we had the Tableside Guac for the first time. Our server, Rolando, scooped out the avocado, added the chopped tomato, red onion and cilantro and mixed in a bowl. His hand mixing was perfect for us. I don't like a guac that seems to have spent 20 minutes in a blender. This had some nice avocado chunks, but it was smooth enough to scoop with a chip. We asked for our chopped jalapeno on the side. Of course, there is the complimentary starter of chips and salsa. The chips are always fresh. Always. The salsa is just the right dipping consistency. Not too much of a tomato taste, definitely nice infusion of cilantro and jalapeno. I'm not sure but I think that there's cumin in it? The only downside is we can't stop eating them once we start. Today I had the Chicken Mole and Karen had the Carnitas Burrito. The mole sauce was very good. It had an earthy taste and was silky smooth. The shredded pork in the burrito (smothered in crema) was very tasty. Good mix of rice, beans and corn. The rice and beans sides and small lettuce/tomato toppings are good and provide a reliable supporting role to the main dish. Finally, we love the 2 For 1 draft and Margarita special. Delicious!! Went today with a few friends and we all loved everything and want to come back asap! I got the quesadilla loca with el pastor and it was soooo good and had big chunks of pineapple! I also got the jalepeno pineapple margarita and their homemade spicy hot sauce. So hot and tasty! My bf got the mole enchiladas and cheese fries and loved it and my friends shared a burrito and enchilada sampler. We got the chorizo queso for an app and we got the churros and fried ice cream for dessert. My bf liked his margarita sampler too! The chips and salsa were great, and my server, Hanna, was very attentive. She stopped by several times to check on me. I ordered a Thursday lunch special, a taco,enchilada and burrito. I could choose either ground beef or chicken for all three, so I chose beef. The beef flavor was not a typical Mexican style that I was accustomed to finding in my travels. As I worked my way through the meal it finally occurred to me that the beef filling tasted just like a spaghetti sauce. I didn't finish all the meal because I wasn't in the mood for spaghetti. Stopped by here for the first time on our way to golf. It was ok. The salsa tasted mostly of tomatoes, not much other flavor, a little spice and no noticeable onion, jalapeño or cilantro. So rather bland for our taste. We both had a daily lunch special that included a beef taco, a beef enchilada and a chicken enchilada. The taco didn't come with cheese on it And there was not much flavor to the beef or chicken. The portions were generous. I really wanted to love this restaurant. The decor and atmosphere is very nice and the service was wonderful. However, the food was mediocre, over salted, and everything was topped with a cheap tasting queso sauce instead of real cheese. My quesadilla would've been delicious had it not been for the queso sauce, which made it overly salty and kind of gross. The amount of meat in the quesadilla and the vegetables were perfect though. I ended up just eating the meat and vegetables out of the quesadilla. The tamale was quite delicious and full of roasted pork. I would recommend a tamale The chilies Renos was also topped with queso sauce instead of real cheese. Chilies Renos was not the traditional baked with cheese, but rather topped with the ingredients. I was hoping a new Mexican restaurant coming to town would be more authentic and have specialities not found elsewhere. El Jalisco's is located in the northeast corner of the intersection of Starkey and Park. The location was originally a Perkins. The interior is clean, spacious and has some really comfy booths. While we looked over the large menu, we ordered the Queso. It had diced jalapeños in it and was awesome! I would definitely recommend it. The free chips and salsa were tasty, too. For entrées, we both ordered the 'Create Your Own Combo' where you can order one, two or three items. We both ordered the Chicken Enchilada and the Chile Relleno with ground beef on top. For our third choice, we got a Chicken Quesadilla and the Guacamole Tostada, respectively. The enchiladas were a little dry and could have used a bit more red sauce or a tomatillo sauce. The chile relleno was watery and I would avoid. The quesadilla was huge, buttery and great! The tostada was fine but for the $20 price of the combo it needed a lot more guac. Overall, we had a great meal. I cannot wait to eat our way through their vast menu. The wait staff was speedy and friendly. I can definitely recommend! read more

Ambience - Its a Mexican restaurant pretty standard and clean as it should be Food - I'm trying to be nice here but come on man . I don't want regular taco seasoning on my ground beef I want MEXICAN flavors not a taco similar to Taco Bell's. The chicken was decent , nothing special I've never liked shredded chicken unless it's drenched in sauce. This was fairly plain but it needed some oomf if you know what I mean. The menu looks incredible though , there are tons of Mexican options but those tacos ? Save your money and get something else lol read more

It pains me to give any restaurant a one star rating. The food just lacks flavors. Their buy-one-get-one free margarita or beer is hampered based on your level of attention your waitstaff gives. They bring the first one promptly but then you need to catch someone's attention to ask for your free one. We ended up getting our 2nd drink after we were done eating. Also. Their beer and margarita prices are high, so the bogo us about right, if you paid half and just got one. Huge disappointment on the margarita flight of 4. I asked for it on the rocks. It's a mystery but the drink was Luke warm, even though there were ice cubes in the glass...maybe the glass was hot from dishwasher! All four lacked taste, if not for the color it would have been difficult to know which was peach, mango, blue curaco or watermelon. $16.99 for the flight. The manager did remove the charge from our bill. Now about the food. On the positive side they have complimentary chips with salsa. It would be nice if they had larger bowls for the salsa, because finding someone to refill salsa is difficult. They must have a really good marketing firm because their menu is 14 pages, filled with colorful pictures and explanations of menu items. Their presentation of food is also well done. Came here to check out this spot. Loved the decor and open seating. We started out with the queso and chips. Very good! Great portion for 2 and we even had some to take home! Our waitress was nice but did not seem to know the menu. I inquired about the difference between the taco salad and the grilled taco salad. She was unsure and at first told me that the difference was the one had meat and one didn't, which was not the case. When I showed her they both have meat, she then said one has vegetables and one doesn't, which was also not the case. I never found out the difference before ordering. I ended up ordering the Taco salad with chicken. When my food was delivered, it was the Fajita Taco salad, which I told her I definitely didn't want due to the grilled vegetables. The difference between the taco salad and the grilled taco salad is that the taco salad had shredded chicken and the grilled taco salad has grilled. I just wanted the taco salad. Our waitress then brought me out what I had ordered. It was just okay. They were very skimpy on the cheese and guacamole. Probably wouldn't come back or recommend based on this experience. read more

Friends invited us to join them for lunch yesterday. Lucky us! We were told that this location was previously a Perkins - what a fantastic transformation. Ample seating, nice size bar with friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff. We started with the 2 for 1 margaritas that El Jalisco is famous for. I ordered the house margarita but there is a wide variety of top shelf margaritas to choose from. Delicious. There is also a wide variety of Mexican draft beers (2 for 1) - something for everyone. We started with chips & salsa. Our friends ordered verde and guacamole to nibble (well, maybe we didn't nibble) on too while we decided what to order from the expansive lunch menu. My guy decided on the LSP 1 Fajitas with steak (choice of steak, chicken or shrimp) and said it was the best he ever had. In addition to the peppers and onions, there was mushrooms and squash to make your fajita. My friend ordered a LSP 26 Enchiladas: 2 Enchiladas (beef or chicken) served with rice and beans. She the ordered the beef and raved how tender and tasty they were. My other friend ordered the LSP 5 - Chile relleno and a taco served with rice and beans. He decided on the beef and requested Mexican brown gravy on the side. He said the batter was thicker and the poblano flatter than usual but that he still enjoyed it. I also opted for the Chile rellano with a chicken taco. My Chile rellano was with cheese (by request) and absolutely tasty. I too thought that the batter was thick, maybe a bit too much, but no complaints. The refried beans and rice were good too. The server's timing was spot on. Not in your face and there when we wanted something. The manager stopped by to check on us. Oh, our friends had met the bartender once before and she too stopped to say hi! The menu has wide selection of appetizers, soups & salads, seafood, a grilled menu, desserts and their 'Favorites'. If you're hungry for burritos, quesadillas or combos, there is a wide variety. The sides and a la carte menu is huge. Oh, and a vegetarian menu! El Jalisco is in a small strip mall with ample parking and was an easy in and out. Ready to go back! read more

I went to eat real quick, had about 45 minutes. I walked in and the place is dead, I think there was one other person eating there. I immediately sat down and ordered a water and the chicken flautas. She brought me my water and a bowl of chips and told me that they are out of salsa. What kind of Mexican restaurant runs out of salsa and doesn't have any on hand? I asked her how long it would take and she said 30 minutes. This is mind blowing to me and not good business practice. PROS: Food is delicious, food portion is great, restaurant is clean, plenty of seating areas, nice decor, service is ok, free chips & salsa. CONS: Service could be better because we waited for a while for drink refills, people bringing out food hardly talk to you (just delivered food silently), menu is WAY too big. I want to bring my husband and boys here, but because the menu is so large, I never got the time to see the entire menu (waitress came over) to see if they serve traditional chicken tenders & fries or hamburgers since they don't eat Mexican food. The chips & salsa were very good. The chips were warm and the salsa had good flavor, but I would have liked some more lime juice and cilantro in it. We did ask for lime wedges to squeeze on the salsa. One more thing and I hope the owners SEE THIS. Please, please, please do some more marketing to get your business seen because the location is kind of hidden on the corner of Park Blvd & Starkey Rd and I wouldn't have seen known about it if we didn't go to CVS to pick up some prescriptions. Never have I ever been so disappointed in a restaurant. First off, the establishment ran out of Diet Pepsi, which is not the end of the world, but definitely a start of what was to come. Waiter brought out the nachos, salsa tasted like tomato paste. No seasoning at all. My order was some sort of shrimp, chicken and steak with vegetables. Bacon and cheese on top. The order came out looking like a mish mosh mess. To my dismay, I could not find the shrimp at all in the meal. I ask the waitress, where is the shrimp in the meal and she went to the kitchen and came back and stated, that they ran out of shrimp, but tried to deceive me and served the meal anyway. Ultimately, I was charged for a plate of mixed vegetables and tiny pieces of steak and chicken. The other meal order was a chicken chimichanga, which consisted of shredded boiled chicken with no seasoning or sauce wrapped in a burrito. Not good at all. The manager of the establishment came over to hear me out about my meal. Her excuse for the missing shrimp was that they just had a rush and the shrimp ran out. So why would they serve me the meal, without letting me know?? After discussing the issues with my meal, she did comp it. Honestly, this was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. This is actually my first review ever. I just wanted to put it out there. Don't deceive your customers. Just let them know the truth!! read more

Server (Rolando was name on ticket) took our drink order, delivered waters with no straws. Came back with bar order, also no straws. Then disappeared for 25 minutes. Asked another server if they could find ours so we can order. Shows up to take our order, delivers food then disappears again. At the end of the meal, I get my own Togo box from the stand near our table. He brings us a bag several minutes later but no check. My family leaves after ten minutes and he comes back to ask if we want the check. We've come here several times over the past three years. This was extremely disappointing. read more

Awesome. There's never really a shortage of Mexican restaurants wherever you go. But the really good ones are harder to find. Growing up in Oklahoma, you get a sense for how good a spot is going to be by how fresh their chips and salsa are. This establishment passed the first test. The salsa is fresh and the chips tasted house-made. You know when you walk into a fire Mexican joint and the fajita smell punches you in the face? This place has that. The menus is simple but not vanilla. There's a good amount of variety. We settled on the burrito loco and the birria tacos. The first thing you notice on the burrito loco is that it's the size of a small dog. I put a dollar next to it for scale. The meat in the birria tacos was tender, seasoned well and the dipping sauce was rich. Appreciated the portion sizes, will definitely be enjoying this burrito tomorrow too. If you're looking for a solid local Mexican spot, I'd add this to to-do list. read more

This place had just opened up and it was definitely nice and clean of course and the decor was really nice. We walked in from hearing about all the hype on fb. We gave it a try for lunch on a weekday and it was a really great experience. The manager was the one who greeted nicely at the front. Staff is definitely trained well on accommodating all guests at the bar and dining area. The dishes we ordered were huge portions especially for just lunch specials.
