Simple crank shaft sensor replacement, dropped off in late afternoon, had it ready next day by 3pm, would have been earlier but the wrong sensor was delivered to them. $70 for the sensor, $150 for diagnosis, $125 labor. Generally do car repairs myself, so feels expensive but I think they're prices are probably competitive. Well run business, friendly, great with follow up, got me on the same day - calling around to other shops, it was going to take days and days. I was shopping at Safeway and, when I got back to my car, it wouldn't start. I walked over and asked if they could help me. I don't know who I spoke to, but the gentleman said he could help but had a couple of cars ahead of me. He offered me the portable jumper, which I gladly took. He made sure I was comfortable using it and only asked to hold my driver's license until I returned the jumper. I came back and asked how much I owed. He told me I owed nothing. I still offered some cash anyway. It was a great experience - it wasn't just about they money for this business. read more

Carmel Valley Garage has rescued me many times over the years. This far out in Carmel Valley it is fortunate we have any garage service at all, but we really lucked out to have service this good. The management has stayed late, gone the extra mile, taken the time to get it right for me - even on the small jobs. Mechanics here have given me quick remedies to get me down the road when others would have made me wait to be scheduled and then pay for them for the big job. I'm certain there is more work demand than there are hours in the day in a shop this size: they could just pick and chose. Fortunately they maintain good cheer, reasonable rates (especially for this zip code) and high quality work output even with the growing onslaught of Valley road warriors - who have few options this far out from town. These guys are competent, fair, and communicative, even if they are super busy and don't need another walk-in. That is a remarkable quality in this trade considering how many hats they have to wear to get through their day. Wow - possibly the best car repair experience ever! We needed to get a brake light repaired on a Land Rover LR2 - we called Carmel Valley Garage to make sure they had the right bulb. Geoff told us to come on down as he was sure he had what we needed. Sure enough, when we got there, he dropped what he was doing and came out and replaced the bulb in minutes - charging us just $5 for the cost of the bulb. We asked about a "check engine" light that was illuminated while we were there, and he quickly ran a scan and let us know what was happening there too ($25). He could not have been more helpful, friendly and reasonable! If only every service garage could be like this one... read more

We had a great experience here today. We were visiting Carmel from Paso Robles for a few days and had an issue with our Honda Ridgeline. I called to make an appointment and Geoff answered the phone. He was very nice on the phone and when we arrived. He took the time to listen to what had happened and did a diagnostic test. He gave us the results in writing. We did not have the repairs done there as we chose to wait until we got to Paso Robles as the part needs to be ordered. We were both impressed by Geoff and his service. This place deserves 6 stars. My car broke down about half a mile away. I had a corroded battery wire that cut straight through. I walked over and the owner gave me the part and even lent me some tools. Seriously, I wished I lived nearby - I would give him my regular car business. read more

I went to mid valley garage and Mike immediately did a test and make an evaluation of what was wrong fro $25.00. He reassured me that the car would be safe to drive home and it was. The owner, Jeff, is lovely and helpful. He made me feel taken care of from the first moment when I brought my car in on a pouring rainy day smelling of gasoline... from the inside! I was in Carmel Valley from out of town, so this was my first time there and when I asked around for a mechanic suggestion, his good reputation preceeded him. I was not looking forward to an unexpected car repair while out of town...or one at all that would be costly. When I returned after his quick and efficient diagnostic was complete, he informed me that this particular repair might be covered under a recall from the manufacturer. Before I had returned, he had taken the time to look up two different causes (TBD once he was actually inside the job) and guessed that both might have been involved in a recall. When I arrived he had the recall numbers on both repairs waiting for me and a cost if he were to do the job but encouraged me to call GM/Chevy for details and have the repair done at the dealership so it would be covered as it should be, if qualified. This dealership says this is a $1300-1500 repair and I never received a letter about this recall, so it was quite shocking. I am sure that any mechanic would have loved to write a large repair order like that but instead, on a $50 diagnostic check and a very busy schedule, he took the time to research it for me and find the best solution for ME. He is honest, thorough and clear. He does the right thing which is something I look for in everyone with whom I interact, but rarely find. He also accepts American Express, which none of the other businesses in the area do. I so appreciate that, as that is the only credit card I use and it is further demonstration of his commitment to his customer's convenience experience. The beautiful new orange garage doors he just had painted are gorgeous too! Carmel Valley Garage looks like the happy place that its ownership reflects. I highly recommend Carmel Valley Garage because it is not the only game in town. it is the only place you will WANT to take your car. read more

What I want to say to all of you is that I work on my own cars. I used to rebuild old VW motors back in the day when I was young and crazy. Nowadays I just want to keep my 2005 Subaru Outback and 2000 Toyota Tacoma running and operating well. Nobody knows whether it is "Jeff" or "Geoff".......... but he is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
