He serviced it lubricating it carefully. It was made in Switzerland, a Bernina. Between this man and this machine, my wife and I have made a wide variety of crafts, costumes for our 4 children. My 40 year old vacuum started making awful noises, so I brought it to Carmel Vacuum. The owner fixed it for free but warned me the beater bar was falling apart. I looked at the new ones he carried and took my old one back home. The old one finally died. I'd done some research on the Riccar uprights Carmel Vacuum sold. They weren't super spectacular, but I'd been through buying some "spectacular" ones online and they'd died, while my old one had kept on going. So, I bought Carmel Vacuum's more expensive Riccar upright, hoping it would last even half as long as my old one. The first time the cleaners used my new vacuum, the beater bar quit working. Ugh!!! But I took it back to Carmel Vacuum and they were very kind and showed me the beater bar reset button (I apparently didn't do a very good job of reading the manual, which did an excellent job of explaining). I also took all of my broken "spectacular" vacuums to them for recycling (for free). I noted they fix just about anything and also sharpen knives. They're easy to get to, with plenty of parking. I'm so glad I bought from a local company instead of online (again) and can take it to them for servicing. read more

This is most definitely the very best vacuum store as well as small appliances repair shop in our area. The Father and son who run this business are both extremely helpful and very friendly. I have ordered specific parts for my Miele vacuum cleaners as well as having them do repair work for me. They also sell Persil laundry detergent from Germany and although it's expensive one box lasts a long time. One Table Spoon of this detergent is perfect. This was recommended by the owner for my HE washing machine. This shop also sharpens knives and scissors and does small appliance repair and restoration. A great store with great customer service. I've been coming here for 10 years. Always get my laundry soap and softener for my laundry washing machine. One time, I had a problem with the Miele softener product which turned to glop. I mentioned it to Tom - said he never had that problem before but gave me a new one. That was great! (Seems other folks had complainted also.) I have a Miele vacuum - since I purchased it new, I had difficulty with the long wand releasing. Tom fixed it - no charge. I've gotten a small hand held unit (don't recall the brand), that I haul to homes I have listed, small unit to also clean the car and computer. I always feel like I'm in the best of hands. Oh my goodness these guys are great. Took a juicer in to have it repaired. They looked at it, found out the problem (it was a tiny problem that needed very little repair) and called me to come get it. No charge. Thursday afternoon, I brought in a 16 year-old Miele vacuum that had never (?!) been cleaned or serviced--It had always worked great! Well, I turned it on one morning, and it had little suction. I'd held off on getting it serviced until I really had no choice--Concerned about whether or not it could be repaired; how much that would cost; would I need a new one; etc. Tom took it immediately and I already had it back Friday morning, all shiny and clean inside and out, serviced and even better than new!! Last January my Miele vacuum suddenly stopped working so I took it to Carmel Vacuum & Appliance. The owner of the shop told me that the engine was completely burn't out and needed to be replaced for approx. $250.00.
