When we were there the indoor facility was buzzing- tons of kids, tons of parents, and it was 1 degree above zero outside. I cannot imagine what a Saturday in June looks like at Grand Park As a curious person I Wikipedia'd this place and was pleasantly surprised the local government had the foresight to build this massive facility about 10 years ago. This place probably drives millions of dollars to the local economy. Anecdotally, we stayed at a local hotel and ate several meals in the area.

As someone new to the Westfield area, I thought this was pretty cool and kind of surprising. Although I'm not really into sports unless I'm feeling 22-but have visited the campus a couple times now for various reasons like the Shipshewana Flea Market, "Whale of a Sale" (a large, upscale children's consignment event) and most recently "Winter Fest" presented by Westfield Youth Sports and "Brought to you by Birdies," the mini golf place and bar/restaurant in Westfield. Winter Fest was a fun and free event for locals inside the campus to promote sports enrichment in the community. Westfield residents who signed up received tickets for $15 worth of food (per person) at the cafeteria. This was quite generous of them! Chik-fil-A was also there with a booth giving out merch and gift cards for meals. The cafeteria and adult bar area are well maintained, shiny and new. The indoor field is clean and beautiful. Staff is friendly and helpful. There were vendors offering to match donations for youth sports fundraisers and local businesses advertising their products. They had tons of inflatables--even one for adults too. It was a great experience and I look forward to attending other events at Grand Park. I found out after Winter Fest that there had also been a Health and Wellness expo that same day and wished I had known about it sooner with companies like Pure Barre being there. Next year, I'll be keeping an eye out for that event and others like it.

I've got beef with Carmel Dad's Club, but I won't let that take away from the fact that this sports complex is great. See how fair I am? I am so unbelievably fair and nonpartisan. My family and I have been to Alleto for soccer games, and the fields are always very well tended and nice. During the warmer months when soccer games are going on, there's a concession stand that's open where you can get your little snacks. Recently, we were inside the indoor facility for basketball. There's also a snack bar inside, with popcorn and sodas and things. We visited at the end of the day, and popcorn was all over the floor near the bleachers, and it was kind of gross. But the basketball courts are nice. Alleto is also the location for Carmel's popular Firefighter for a Day camp, and is also the place where Carmel Dad's Club takes sports photos. I'm sure there are lots of other things that go on here, but those are the only things that I've visited Alleto for. Basically, if you live in Carmel and you have children, and those children play sports with Carmel Dad's Club, you will eventually end up visiting Alleto at some point. It's a main sports hub in Carmel.

I had the opportunity to attend a special event at the Woodstock Club, a private family-oriented…read morecountry club with a discreet entrance directly across from the Newfields entrance. Did I know it was there? Nope. While I'd certainly heard of Woodstock, I wasn't certain of its location. Woodstock has been in existence for over 100 years. There's definitely a vintage vibe there with beautiful grounds, a wonderful clubhouse, and a more reserved sense of luxury. Facilities include eight Har-Tru tennis courts, a hard surface pickleball court, three lighted and heated platform tennis (paddles) courts, a paddle hut with outdoor decking and fire pits, three pools, a nine-hole golf course, and quite a bit of greenery. Woodstock plays host to a variety of competitive and recreational leagues and club sports for all ages and hosts APTA premiere national and regional platform tennis tournaments. While I certainly did not tour the entire grounds, the lengthy driveway gave me an opportunity to check out quite a bit. First off, in terms of accessibility at the clubhouse I'll note that if you drive under their brick canopy toward the back of the clubhouse they have several accessible parking spots. There's an accessible entrance directly under that canopy (the other entrance is not accessible). They also have an elevator available from that accessible entrance (NOTE: In this case, accessible means a level entrance, no stairs, and a push-button power doorway). In 2020, Woodstock renovated their dining rooms. The Woodstock Room offers indoor and outdoor dining and a children's activity room. They have the River Room - it overlooks the pool area, has a bar, and an adjacent outdoor terrace. The Club Room is more intimate and has a fireplace. The Woodstock Woodstock also has a grand ballroom that can host larger events and weddings and two smaller private rooms. My event was in an area that was called "the living room," though it may have a more formal name. I didn't really wander around much, however, I was mostly able to access everything I needed (some of the food dishes were a bit high). This event served "heavy hors d'oeuvres" including shrimp, crab cakes, salmon, a couple light dessert options, a veggie tray, and a few other things. It would have been nice to have had items labeled - I mean, let's be honest, if you know me then you know I'm a bit more trailer park than country club. However, everything I tasted was awesome. There was also a bar and soft drinks were available. Employees were friendly in a more reserved, professional way. They were effective, efficient, and discreet throughout the evening. I found the area quite comfortable and enjoyed looking around it. Membership here is by referral only and they have preview and regular membership opportunities. Fees are based on age and marital status. They do also have a non-resident option. I'm always impressed when a club makes an effort toward accessibility. While Woodstock isn't perfect in terms of accessibility, it's better than I expected and I was quite pleased. Overall, I would definitely return for future events and enjoyed the opportunity to check out this long-standing part of Indianapolis history.
