There is something wrong with this place. I live across the street in an apartment complex and there seem to be way too many ambulamces coming and going...some arriving with just a flashing light and leaving slowly.
I have talked to a few of the ambulatory patients that have escaped for a walk, and they say the food is aweful, that they have dressed some custodial staff to look like nurses, put out apples that never get eaten because the patients can't chew.
At first I blamed the staff who I have been told seem hostile and or disconnected. But then I asked around at a couple of nearby drug stores and apprenrtly they often come to buy supplies and pay out if their own pockets. So the problem seems to be higher up. That isn't to say some of the workers do not belong there. I guess there is a real "nurse ratchet" over there who denies meds to patients who are not in the right place at the right time.
I have been told they put on quite a dog and pony show when being investigated...then it reverts back to depressing and awful.
I have to say that all this is hearsay to the extent that I do not go in.
I took one of my kids there years ago, but back then...probably 20 years ago...it seemed good enough for a place like that.
I have heard that there have been changes in ownership, and now there is a relationship of sone kind with River View hospital. If this is true, and they are making the decisions, they should be ashamed. Regardless it not only needs to be investigated, it needs to watched very carefully and probably restructured simply to protect the patients.
I fear that more fines (I was told that they have penalized more than once) will simply hurt the patients.
But imagine leaving a loved one in their care! What a terrible way to end a long life! Of course it is even worse for people simply left there...who have traded all there social security income simply to have the care they need to finish life with dignigty?
This sucks!
Such a situation should not exist in Carmel Indiana but, since it does, the care should be second to none.
First a group of crack nurses should take over care, perhaps aided with funds from some of the super wealthy around here.
Then maybe the City of Carmel Parks and Recreation people could provide their services, and diffetent sections sponsored by business groups could help. Also we are surrounded with lots of restaurants and several full service medical facilities. The opportunities to make this place right are huge, and there is plenty of money around.
The Carmel Public Library is the finest in the state, and they could handle the media. I understand that they dumped the local cable provider for some cut rate outfit. It should have gone the other directkon, with brighthouse getting more involved and setting up computer teachers and helpers for these folks.
And there are actually rooms without baths and showers and patients must find there way on their own down a hallway to bath themselves...IF they can...I know of one person who lost bowel control and no one heloed het for HOURS.
But in order to help, the right people need to know that this is an embarrasment for the City of Carmel.
So WHERE is the Indianapolis Star or the local TV stations, our manor SERIOUS mefia outlets , when it cones to investigative journalism? This is an area they need to be looking into and reporting on...sooner rather than later!
