Very VERY pleased with my CarMax interaction. I shipped a car from Clackamas Oregon for $99, and didn't like the interior. Then I saw a vehicle in Renton that looked perfect, and I was able to ship it for free. After the test drive, I was sold on it! Bruce took great care of me, making sure I understood the process. I was waiting for an email, to give good reviews, but never got one, so I figured I'd share my experience here. Five stars for the Spokane Valley CarMax crew!

Bottom of car covered in transmission fluid

If I could give zero stars I would. CarMax would not let me take the CRV to my own mechanic prior to actually purchasing the vehicle. So because they promised a "125+ point inspection" & the test drive went well, I purchased the vehicle. I immediately drove it from Spokane to my mechanic in Coeur d'Alene. The entire bottom of the car was COVERED in transmission fluid, all the way to the back bumper. The differential side seal was jammed in, looked like rushed lazy mechanic work on Carmax's side. There was also exposed wheel speed sensor wires that needed replaced. If I would have driven that car back to Montana with the amount of transmission fluid that was leaking, it would have seized the whole transmission. So dangerous, do not trust the "125+ point inspection". I then called CarMax to address the issue at 2pm on a Friday. They offered zero help as "everyone is done for the day but we can take it in Monday morning". I needed to get back to work in Montana Saturday evening. They had zero sympathy and not one single offer to help or recommendations on available mechanics, only "we can fit you in Monday". After calling over 20 mechanics I was able to get someone available to do the job. I paid out of pocket and am waiting to see if I will actually be compensated for these repairs, loss of wages, fees in transportation, emotional stress. I'm disappointed and flabbergasted at the lack of help provided by CarMax. Do not buy a vehicle from this CarMax unless you want to be lied to.

We've bought 2 cars from CarMax and have had a great experience for both.... the salesmen are friendly and totally NOT pushy at all. The experience both times were awesome. The process is easy and doesn't leave you waiting for HOURS, playing the "back and forth" nonsense other dealerships play. Love the customer service and the non pushy sales people... also the quick, easy process and financing they offer. Definitely found our car dealership!

Hard sell on the warranty. There are major issues with internal comms. More than once I have contacted them about simple service related items. They tell me, "ok, come in any time." But then I show up and their service department is completely confused and I end up having to make an appointment and come back. The latest had to do with getting a front license plate bracket installed because they didn't install it when I bought it (I should have made them install it when I bought it). First time I emailed Nick who made a big show of "email me for anything." No answer. Then I call, they say 'come on in' and like an idiot I believe them. When I get there they turf me to AutoNation Acura next door, who are all confused because no one from Honda gave them any heads up about my coming over. Yesterday same thing happens. I made the mistake of believing the person I spoke to who said "come on in". Service ppl are again confused, say they don't have the bracket but can order one and tell me just show up to Acura and they'll install it. Tell me why I showed up to Acura today, they have 2013 and 2015 brackets but not 2014. Those Honda clowns either didn't order it or ordered the wrong one. Acura is ordering for me directly and ill show up tomorrow to have it installed. I trust them, but not Honda. I regret buying from autonation Honda. Worst experience ever.

My ancient beast was showing signs of end-of-life, so I began looking last fall. Things weren't right with the ones I saw, but I was resigned to getting an automatic these days, though I've driving a stick for forty years. Then, a couple of weeks ago, I saw a few to look at. I stopped by AutoNation Honda, and the supposedly lighter interior of one was black. Having grown up in a hot part of the country, that's a clear no for me. The sales guy went online to see what else the chain had. He found the Sonic that had just been traded in at their Chevy dealership and wasn't even on the market yet. It was a stick, so I was excited. Once they cleaned it up, I went to look at it. For a car with just over 100k, it was in pretty good shape. I saw the basics with a body hole in the back and a missing visor. Those are easy to deal with. Here's where my due diligence fell apart. I looked through their voluminous paperwork on its status. Got the Carfax info and it looked good. Sadly, I didn't look carefully enough at the small print way in the back of their own inspection. It needs a new timing belt and there's an oil leak. For things that important, ethics and morals should have clearly disclosed those things verbally. Nope. They did the bare, legal minimum and I missed it. It's at the shop now and what I thought was a gasket leak also is a stripped bolt so we're replacing the pan. All told, more then $2k of work. It'll still be a good car after, the problem is the price. I checked KBB and it was priced at the top of the range for those cars. It looked good enough that was acceptable to me. If I'd done my due diligence, I would have walked away at that price. I hold both them and myself responsible. Just as it's almost impossible read all the details in a EULA, the items were hidden and I didn't focus. If you go there, be aware that you need to go through everything before signing.

They also did not know basic information about the vehicle that would have been apparent even to many car novices, so I would surmise they take vehicles straight from auction to sale without any sort of inspection. If you do go to them, buyer beware and do your due diligence. EDIT for clarity re: the owner's response. I did NOT send a third party, that is semantic word smithing to avoid accountability. The person they are calling a "third party" is my husband, who is the primary owner of the vehicle in practice, if not on paper. Calling him a "third party" because we chose to purchase in my name for better financing is laughable. Yes, we were remiss in not getting an independent inspection and that is our lesson to learn. However, our mistakes do not excuse unethical business practices such as lying about where they obtained the vehicle.

I'm from out of state but was willing to travel to get the right car since the Golf's are pretty hard to find right now. I reserved the car through their website. It didn't even require a deposit though I was willing to do that if necessary. Their website system for reserving was good and the next day the online sales manager called to work through details and put me in touch with Gavyn who was a new sales guy (just graduated high school). Gavyn did a video walk around of the car for me via FaceTime. I booked a flight to pick up the car. Gavyn was sick the day I flew in so Jordan stepped in. He picked me up from the airport which was super nice. Great guy, friendly, honest. Did a quick test drive and the car was indeed what they said it was, which was a relief after flying up there sight unseen besides FaceTime. Paperwork was a little slow because their usual finance person was out sick so a woman from the Subaru dealership stepped in to process everything. Although she offered a bunch of extras as dealerships always do, she wasn't pushy at all. Because I was buying from out of state they set up all the registration stuff for me which made it super convenient. The DMV's across WA and CA are slammed so it took a few weeks but sure enough the registration paperwork was all in order and as simple as could be. There were some rubber floor mats we realized we're missing when I picked up the car. They had them shipped to my home address. This was literally the best car buying experience I've ever had and I've purchased at least 10 cars since my early 20's. I've had some other positive experiences and some negative ones as well. But honestly, the team at this dealership was incredible. I kept waiting for the bottom to fall out and for some terrible surprise based on general car buying experiences but I can vouch for Spokane VW without any reservations at all. My next VW or Audi purchase will absolutely be with them as well, regardless of them being out of state just based on this experience.

MAD COW REVIEWS: VOLKSWAGEN EDITION…read more MOOOOO-ve over, folks. Mad Cow has a dealership review. My wife has purchased multiple Volkswagens from this dealership over the years, so this isn't based on one random visit or one bad afternoon. She has given this place plenty of business. Unfortunately, the experience has reached the point where even this bull has seen enough red flags. Her Volkswagen has had its share of problems, which has meant plenty of interaction with the service department. Most recently, she dropped it off for service and it sat there for several days. When she finally got it back, there was a new feature we definitely didn't order: A broken windshield. Here's the part that really gets my horns twisted. The dealership acknowledged to her that the windshield was NOT broken when the vehicle was there being serviced. Yet instead of simply addressing the problem and taking care of a longtime customer, she has repeatedly been put off. And put off. And put off some more. At some point, you stop chewing the cud and call it what it is: terrible customer service. Mistakes happen. Cars get damaged. Things go wrong. What separates a reputable business from a questionable one is how they handle it afterward. Take responsibility. Communicate. Fix the problem. Move on. Instead, my wife's experience has repeatedly left us feeling like we're dealing with the stereotypical old-school car dealership routine: delay, deflect, minimize, and hope the customer eventually gets tired of asking. She has purchased multiple vehicles here. She deserved better treatment than this. Mad Cow's advice? If you do business here, document your vehicle's condition when you drop it off, take pictures, keep your paperwork, and don't assume a problem will automatically be handled simply because it's the right thing to do. This bull is officially udderly unimpressed. Mad Cow Rating: Too many red flags. Not enough accountability.

HE WILL PUT IN CHEAP AFTER MARKET PARTS THAT WILL CRAP OUT IN ABOUT TWO YEARS AND DESTROY YOUR ENGINE. BELOW IS PART OF THE LEGAL FILINGS WITH BBB AND ATTORNEY GENERAL OFFICE : I am writing to formally demand immediate resolution regarding the defective turbo installation and associated damages to my vehicle, which directly stem from your shop's substandard workmanship and repeated use of faulty parts. This is not the first time I have been left to bear the financial and emotional burden of your shop's negligence, and I will not tolerate this pattern any longer. The Facts Defective Turbo Installation and Catastrophic Damage: The turbo installed in my vehicle has suffered a catastrophic failure in just over two years, despite the fact that I rarely drive my car. The failure has caused 3 liters of oil to pour into the catalytic converter and seep into the tubing, leaving my vehicle in a disastrous state and requiring extensive corrective work. History of Shoddy Workmanship and Defective Parts: You replaced the valve cover, but that repair barely lasted two years before the part failed. Despite the warranty, I was forced to cover out-of-pocket expenses that should have been fully covered. Now, the turbo you selected and installed--a critical component--has proven equally unreliable, further demonstrating a troubling trend of subpar repairs. Lack of Transparency: Despite my repeated requests, you have failed to provide a receipt or clear documentation for the turbo's cost. The only receipt you've shown is for $298 for mounting pieces, leaving $702 unaccounted for in the $1,000 charged. Your refusal to provide basic documentation raises serious questions about transparency and accountability. Negligence in Professional Standards: Your shop's continued reliance on parts that do not meet quality standards, coupled with inadequate accountability for failures, has cost me time, money, and trust. You've stated in the past that you operate with integrity and "family values." Yet, this is the second time I've had to deal with defective parts from your shop, and the financial and emotional toll is staggering.
