We had a very good experience at this CarMax location. We had been looking for a newer car for me, dealt with other car dealers that used bait and switch tactics. We found a used Volvo that we liked online, made an appointment to see it and from the minute we walked in until we traded in our car and bought the Volvo was under 3 hours. Unfortunately, the car we liked had a dead battery but this was handled easily by our sales person, Johnathan. We arrived with financing in hand but honestly, CarMax offered a lower rate and better terms overall. Our car had one minor issue and we received a work order and it will be taught care of this week. Showroom was clean, our sales person was wonderful and the finance lady was great, too! We had a good experience here. read more

Not favorable experience! Ordered a car from the Nashville location for $299. Car arrived and it needed a turbo actuator. Not an issue as I was still fighting the insurance company over my other vehicle. Bryan communicated with me well. Finally get my insurance claim settled and I'm ready to buy. Only to be informed they are not going to fix the car and are just gonna send it to auction. They did refund me the $299. Called me back the next day to say they were going to fix it and that I could come the following Saturday and take delivery. Take off work early on Saturday only to get a call nearly half way there that the car was not ready. At this point I'm getting frustrated because I've been more than patient but now they are costing me time and money. Bryan offered to fill my car up after but I had already turned around. They had to drive the car to "reset the codes" keep in mind I already had the loan and insurance on the car. So finally the following Thursday 1/15 we go to get the car, I asked Bryan would car max be willing to take $500 off the max care plan since I know they don't negotiate the car prices for all the hassle. I was informed that all they could do is a free oil change and fill my vehicle with fuel. Okay fair. Well I get there test drive the car like it choose to move forward given their offer. Was not happy to be kept waiting but that's a typical car lot for ya. Sign the paperwork. Inquired about the oil change and fuel. Well guess what they don't have diesel, thankfully I told the tech that my truck was a diesel. Then came the red tape. I finally just told them to forget it and walked out. Once we get home it flashed on my screen that the vehicle needs service in 500 miles so even the "free oil change" was a lie! I'll stop short of saying I'll never buy another vehicle from CarMax again but it will not be from this location! The Maxcare plan is a 100% profit plan if I never use it! They easily could have offered a negotiated price for all the hassle they caused me! Bryan is the reason this review is a 2 not a 1. He was pleasant to deal with but the overall experience and lack of care and customer service by the leaders of carmax is sickening! Bryan did offer for me to go fill my truck up and send him the receipt and he would reimburse me but at that point I just wanted to be done with the entire situation and done with them. Just two weeks later, it shut down in the middle of the road with my wife and three small children inside--one of whom has special needs. We narrowly avoided a collision. I bought a car everything went smooth, of course, and then you have to bring the car back for Repairs the first time I spoke to The service department we wrote down two things of course I didn't notice because I had not had the car for more than a day that there was one more issue that they need to fix the woman that I spoke to on the phone had an attitude and said they wouldn't order parts until they saw the car. I explained I'm a single mother with two jobs. I don't have time to go back back-and-forth to Carmax. In fact, I recommend staying far away. Their warranty and financial departments used to be helpful and value their customers. They are now focused on growing too quickly and their clients are suffering. From selling me a faulty vehicle under warranty that they refused to fix, to hanging up on me and providing mixed answers to any questions, they have lost me as a loyal customer. Horrible absolute horrible. I found an 2019 RAM 1500 Bighorn I liked on the website. Went to this dealership and inquired about it and found that it was in Greensboro NC. Well this obviously Young salesman ordered the truck to the Capital Blvd location free of charge. Cool!!! They got the truck in and I went to see it and trade in a 2021 Chevy Colorado. Test drove it and really liked the vehicle. So we get going through financing part of business and they have several in-house lenders they like to use. 3 of which I have had good relations with. For example Capital One Auto Credit. Well this little twerp runs my info through the Carmax financing and came back with a 18% interest rate. Insulting!!! I have not ever had an auto loan interest rate over 8 or 9 %. My credit score has always been in the upper 700's like 750 to 780's. What made it worse is he would not run my credit through Capital One or the other 2 lenders that I have good relations with. Also getting even worse he told me that Carmax does not do business with Coastal Federal Credit Union and especially Navy Federal Credit Union because they are UN-supportive of our military service members. I went to have my truck serviced due to coolant light coming on. They checked it out and told me what the problem was had to wait to be approved by Max Care. I received a call from Tyson King a few days later regarding approval. He also apologized for the delay which wasn't needed it's life right. The problem with the world we live in is some people are just so impatient and think the world revolves around them NOT. After dropping my truck off he called to update me about the parts and more parts needed to be ordered because the job was bigger than what they had expected. No problem shit happens. They are the same sleazy car salesman you get at any used car dealer. Yeah, it's a fixed price and no negotiating. Helps them, not you. I just bought a four-year-old SUV about six months ago. The battery was dead this morning, so jump started and went to Autozone. Yep, dead battery. "Why do you have a six year old battery in a four year old car?" as the AutoZone guy while installing my $200 battery" - ":CAR MAX" I said. "yup" he said. "And they put a Panasonic Battery in there," he said. "Does Panasonic even make car batteries?" I asked. 1. Don't buy all their BS; check to ensure you have a Die Hard battery younger than your car. 2. Check EVERY feature that they claim the car has, even if you have to take the time to figure out how to do it. He said I had automatic wipers that cone on when it rained. He didn't lie; it just took me a week to figure it out. He said I had adaptive cruise control. I don't. But the dealer who I went to ask how to operate it, looked and said - "Nope, you don't have that. I can put it in for $3,000." No overhead camera as promised. And the car take premium which he forgot to mention. I found out when I went to fill up the first time. Lesson learned. Run away! Do not buy from here. I bought a Lexus from here and the windshield was cracked upon arrival. Also the trim was incorrectly stated on the website... refused to do anything about it. They said I have a return window. They told me to take it to safelite for repair and they would take care of it. Great right? Wrong. Safelite damaged the frame of the car & broke the auto windshield wipers. I called carmax and they said they would discuss what to do and extend my return window for me. Meanwhile they don't get back to me and I get Covid and ask them to come pick up the car as they told me they would. Nope! They lied and stuck me with the car and won't do a thing about it. Dishonest business. Got a quote online to sell low mileage car of my mother who does not drive anymore. We went in person to finalize the deal and had them look at car. Made us wait almost an hour. Then they came out and had us sign all the paperwork for $7400 And told us they would be back with the bank draft. 30 minutes later a different person came and said the offer is $6,000, which I replied no we signed a deal for $7400. The original guy comes back and says, so we are going ahead with the $6000 Which we refused. An hour and a half of wasted time, with a senior citizen with mobility issues that took great effort to get her there. The kicker us that when I got home and looked at the title they had already filled out the back, notarized it etc,, So now we cannot even sell the car until we get a new copy of the title. I have been buying cars for over 30 years and have always disliked but tolarated the process because it is a necessary evil we must endure. This time my experience was the best one I have ever encountered. I figured due to Covid-19 that this was going to end up becoming a disaster. I couldn't have been more wrong about my assessment. I started off looking on line for what was available as I did not have a particular car in mind. Just to get the process started I figured I would check out what kind of rates I could get through their pre-approval process which was super easy on line. Once the pre-approval came back I received a text asking if I would like to discuss the terms and results. I promptly replied and received a phone call. Since I did not have a car(s) in mind I was told to just send a text back with lot numbers of what I was interested in. I sent over a few numbers and was called back asking if I would like to reserve a test drive or just purchase my pick through curbside. Since they offer a no questions asked 7 day return I opted to pick up curbside. Since that was my option I was sent via email most of the paper work that was need to sign, sent over my insurance rider with new vehicle, and scheduled a curb side pickup of my choice. I arrived for my appointment, parked in the designated spot,called a number that was provided and was greeted by a person that just had a few more papers that needed signing on site and waited about 10 minutes while they put on a temp plate, copied all the paperwork for my records and was handed the key while I looked over the vehicle. I was offered a test drive (which would be alone due to Covid) and was instructed once again that if for any reason I am unhappy I could bring it back within seven days. The car I chose is perfect for me(a review for another time) and I am happy with not only my choice in vehicle but extremely satisfied with the whole CarMax experience. They are doing wonderful work and have taken extra precautions to keep everyone safe. Through this tough atmosphere of trying to do an act like purchase a car which is a very personal deed they managed to keep me feeling like I was the only important activity they had going on. Just like if you were in the dealership through the whole experience without having to sit there through the hours of activity of normal car buying. Their advertisement for paying more than the other guys is a dishonest marketing ploy. I went to CarMax in March 2022 and brought my car in. It took more than an hour and I saw my car taking out twice (it is a performance car). Carmax gave me an offer $12K less than a dealership offered me that was a couple miles away and $16K less than trade in from Kelly Blue Book value. The car had less than 9K miles and they stated they found no problems. They told me it was because of the Ukraine/Russia War? I made an appointment to test drive and if all went well purchase a car. Regardless of the appointment I made, I waited for over an hour to see someone. If this is how they treat customers trying to purchase a car, imagine how they will treat you after you are already a customer. I was told the wait was long because they didn't have enough staff. This is unacceptable considering I've been to this location trying to purchase a car twice now, and the wait has been unreasonably long. The appointment was made well in advance so more people should have been on staff. I spoke with other potential customers while waiting, and they had all been there between 1 & 1/2 - 2 hours each. Buying a car here is supposed to be hassle free. It wasn't. Instead, my Carmax Raleigh experience has been a long and frustrating journey which I hope to never repeat again. I came here at the end of June to buy a car. Found one I liked, seemed like it would be easy, especially because I was paying cash. I was so wrong. Despite having made an appointment to pick up the car and sign the paperwork, it took them three hours to do the paperwork. When I complained, the manager apologized, but wouldn't let me switch to a different person who could process the paperwork faster. This person was incompetent and did the paperwork for our title wrong, necessitating another trip to Carmax. He also sent our license plates to the wrong address. The tire sensor light went on as I drove the car home, necessitating two additional trips to Carmax for repair. The sensor light is still on. The car battery died and had to be replaced a month after we bought the car. Fortunately, I didn't have that repair done at Carmax and so it was done correctly. We recommended my friend to this store for the 24 hour test drive and good customer service. Upon arrival we went to look at a vehicle for my friend. We came back in to wait and the Store Manager Rita approached us asking if we needed help. We told her yes and informed her that my friend was interested in a 24 hour test drive and she said "okay I will get you help". She proceeded to come back with a salesperson and sat down and said "No you can't do a test drive". We asked why because we were informed the day before that two 24 hour test drives are allowed per person. My friend will be here for the first time and we told her that and she was "like since your with them no you can't do a 24 hour test drive". We questioned why was that because of the policy in addition we aren't under the same policy. She was not being reasonable or telling us exactly why, and said since you're with them no you can't do the 24 hour test drive... do you want a regular test drive or is there anything else I can help you with" my friend asked even if she come back by herself could she do it she said "No" and walked away. She was unnecessarily rude and the worst customer service. If this is going to be the continuing Store Manager I can guarantee it will only get worse. The pictures of the car I was approved for looked fine online but when I viewed the car, it had scratches all over it and the rotors were scored telling me it would need new brakes soon. To pick another car would mean starting the whole process over again. I did purchase the vehicle because I can do the repairs myself. If you were anyone that did not know better...you know the rest. My husband and I have purchased cars from Carmax and nowhere else since 2008. Although prices on vehicles are slightly higher than other places, we've been loyal to carmax due to outstanding customer service in the past. Our experience this time with Capital Blvd Raleigh location was extremely bad. So bad that Carmax has lost our loyalty. We needed to buy two cars and had plans to buy both at Carmax. We noticed the process has changed a lot so it seems like Carmax has streamlined to reduce cost of manpower causing extremely bad customer service. The sales manager lacks care to our concerns and just wanted us to complete the transaction so that he could push us over to someone else's responsiblity (service). Not only did he not hear our concerns and did not address them, when he handed us off to service area, there is some kind of communication disconnect there as well. They kept the car after we had already purchased to "check out" the concerns. We got a call three business days later to come pick it up so when I got there, no one in the service center knew about my car being there to be checked out. I had to have them go find Kejuan the sales manager for them to find my car. Kejuan came and said that he had told my husband about all the items they addressed so I took his word for it. When I got home, my husband asked me if they fixed everything and I said that Kejuan said he talked to him so that's why I didn't ask anything. My husband said Kejuan did not tell him anything. We discovered a lot of items not taken care of after looking at the car again. We called the carmax corporate number to complain and the person there was great. We were contacted quickly by Kavon the service manager who gave us the customer service attention that we had experienced in years past and that we are used to with Carmax. We emphasized that we do not live that close so wanted to limit how many times we drive there to get serviced since it is adding miles which takes away from our maxcare warranty. He scheduled our appointment to service it and we agreed to 8am on a Friday morning so that he could get us in and out as soon as he could that day and he said if we needed a loaner while we waited that he would help us with that ...but when my husband showed up at 8am that morning, Kavon was not working and the ladies that were there said that Kavon did not tell them we were coming at 8am so they refused to touch the car until 10 and he sat in the waiting area and had to hear them talking and joking making him feel uncomfortable and not happy about how he was being treated. By 12pm, my husband followed up on the car and they said should be done soon. By 1pm he inquired about a loaner because he can't sit there all day and the response was absolutely not. By 2pm he inquired again and pushed harder about a loaner since this is taking so long and was told no again and magically the car is "ready". They give him the car and only some items were addressed while all the other items that Kavon said would also be taken care of was not. We are so upset because if we wanted these items fixed then we have to come back out for another service visit. My husband called the corporate carmax number again saying we don't want to have to drive back out here to have the rest fixed and wanted them to keep the car and give us a loaner until they resolved it all. The corporate number called the Capital Blvd Raleigh branch and called him back saying that branch won't do it unless the car was not driveable due to a safety concern. So now we are just so upset that since we are in the 30 day return window, we wanted to return it just due to the extremely bad customer service. We cooled off and due to not wanting to do too much to impact my credit history, I've decided that we can keep this car but are now no longer loyal to carmax. We have purchased a second car from another dealership that is not carmax since this experience due to the loss of our loyalty. The Capital Blvd Raleigh branch has made it clear that maintaining our loyalty to Carmax is not important. read more

This is the third car I've purchased from CarMax and the last! the first two times it was a great experience. On 7/8 I traded in my car which I purchased at CarMax for another one. I signed documentation to cancel the maxcare plan I had purchased on the previous car. I was due a refund of around $2,000 for the remainder of the maxcare, I signed documentation to turn that money into a down payment for my new car. Today I received a letter from my previous finance company indicating there is an outstanding $470.00 payment on my former account. Call CarMax and they want me to track the payment down by going to the CarMax store where I purchased the original vehicle. Why should I do that?! We waited in the lobby for 70 minutes checking in with multiple staff members on the status. In the end we were told to continue waiting as everyone was busy and with customers. When we arrived there were no other cars parked in the appraisal areas. We decided to leave because we did not want to wait an indiscriminate time on my day off. I'm compelled to share my good experience at this Carmax dealership. I ordered my car from their Fayetteville store with a free transfer. They kept me informed through text and email of the transfer status. I could have waited for a call but since I knew it arrived I called to schedule a test drive. I had applied online for financing and was approved with little detail but when I called to see if they would transfer to Fayetteville they asked similar questions and got the finalized approval. The salesman on the phone had an instant approval with 3 term options and the corresponding interest rate. He told me what the payment would be. In the end the payment was exactly as they quoted by phone. I expected to be in and out but spent 4 hours there. That probably wasn't normal though. The salesman Bob and I talked too much and he messed up our address in the computer. It happens. The other slowdown was the slight difference between the drivers license name and the credit app name. Oddly enough those small mistakes cost us an extra hour and a half. It happens. Meanwhile during the test drive I noticed a vibration on the highway over 60mph. They decided to have it looked at while we were there and rebalance the tires as well as resurfacing the front rotors. I was honestly surprised that they did the rotors. I didnt mention anything about them. I thought it was just the tires. In the end the vehicle took longer than the purchase process. It was quite an operation they had. They've really streamlined their processes. The financing, trade-in process, transfer process, detailing process, service process etc. Were really wild to see in action. The things I loved: The approval and disclosure process of financing. The transfer process. The minimization of paperwork. The teamwork process of communication. The dealership itself. The cars are all open to look in and sit in without a need for a salesman to get keys. No need for proof of income with fair to less than fair credit. Free coffee and bottled water. Fixing issues on the car while we complete the purchase and paperwork. The cons: small mistakes made very long wait. I'm quicker than them at moving the process forward. No negotiation price is a little high. Tips: as with everything in life do your due diligence. Inspect the car thoroughly. Utilize their carfax and recall information. Consider selling your car elsewhere for more money if you paid off your trade. Push along the process if you want it to go faster. Dont buy their gap insurance. Its overpriced and negates a good deal. Consider an outside warranty company for a better price. Realize a well placed call will hurry the process and verify what one person told you as being true. Place a hold on a vehicle you like for 7 days for free. Apply online to streamline the process. read more

I know quite a few people have slammed this place, but I had a real good experience here. I bought a Nissan Rogue SL fully loaded and have been very happy with it. The salesperson was knowledgeable and didn't hound me like other dealerships that I can't stand walking into. I received a follow up call from her to ask how everything was and if I needed anything and I explained that everything was great My trade-in went smoothly and got just about what I thought it was worth, so that made it good. We had an excellent experience buying & trading in our first car at this CarMax today. Reginald was extremely nice and answered all the questions we had. We got pre-approved for financing & appraised our trade in beforehand so when we got to the store we really just test drove the car, decided we loved it, then worked on the financing. The lady that helped us with financing (I think her name was Tamma) was also extremely nice, thoroughly explained exactly what we were signing, and she gladly answered any questions we had. We got there about thirty minutes early to our appointment so we had time to look around the lot but they gladly took our appraisal car back when we got there and got us out the door with a new car in two hours including a test drive. Really couldn't have asked for a better experience. I really liked that everyone was trying to distance themselves as well as wear masks and clean the cars after someone got in as well. I went in to thie Capital Blvd. dealership today with a great SUV to sell. The process was extremely easy and took about 45 minutes to get my offer. I have sold a vehicle to Carmax previously and was very pleased with the price they offered me as it was in line with KBB trade in values. Unfortunately, Carmax has changed their practices and I was offered several thousand dollars less than KBB value. We strongly felt that the SUV was worth far more and took it elsewhere. so me and my wife went into carmax. we bought our rav from there. but we wanted to upgrade to a bigger vehicle. we went looking and found the vehicle we liked. carmax offers a 24 hour test drive. So we went in and talked to the front desk persons stating we would like to do the 24 hour test drive on that particular vehicle. He got us to a sales rep were we handed our ids and insurance info. We signed the papers and off we go. This was around 6:45pm today. We drove around for a bit and went home after. Awhile later around 8pm Shaelynn gets a text and a call stating your test drive was supposed to be 20 minutes. I was shocked because my intentions were that it was 24 hours. The website states it, the front screen in the building states it too. The sales rep never sat down and gave out the stipulations of the test drive and on the paper work it does have a spot were it says vehicle must be returned by this date__ and time__. But they were bank only spot was filled was the date the vehicle departed. I get it things happens it was just bad communication. but what really gets me the manger stating this vehicle must be returned TONIGHT. Its 8pm I'm 20-30 minutes away. I have to be ups early in the morning to go to work. I told him my wife would bring it back in the morning and get it straightened out first thing. But he said no must be back tonight. at first I did tell him to shove it well see him tomorrow morning. But after a minute of thinking I didn't want my wife to have to deal with it. And I didn't want to take off the morning of work just for that crap. But not going to carmax now....... read more
