My experience with Carmax was awful. We started with Dee, who was PHENOMENAL--very professional, informative, and kind. Unfortunately, when we had the final meeting she wasn't there and we ended up working with Fiona - a disaster. She didn't know how to do her job, she was overly suspicious to the point it looked as if we came to scam someone. She was constantly talking about people taking off with their cars and paperwork scams. At one point I just wanted to get up and go. The manager who claimed to have worked that job for 15 years claimed he never saw it and has no idea what the house deed was?! Shocking. I would never go back there unless I have the privilege to work with Dee. She deserves all the praise and recognition. If she wasn't there for our first meeting, I wouldn't go back. My friend bought a used car here last week. She took it to her mechanic and he told her it had been in an accident. Car fax confirmed that. She called to arrange to return it. The person she spoke to was not the slightest bit surprised or remorseful. He told her they sell cars that have been in accidents all the time. When we came down to return it and get her money back, they blamed Equifax for not telling them about the accident or said maybe someone missed it with the paperwork. I feel like they are terrible, taking advantage of people who need a car and don't have a lot of money. They kept her waiting to sign the paperwork over an hour. Don't go here! read more

BEWARE OF POTENTIAL RETURN PROBLEMS. Another example of a large corporation who just wants to quickly move people and their money through with little care for any problems that might come up. We returned a broken car within their return window, filled out all the required paperwork, received a refund, yet continued to receive DMV renewal notices on it. We were told by them that the title would be transferred once it sold and the new buyer filled it out. What? That's lazy. It's YOUR cost of doing business to properly transfer back a returned vehicle. We continued to get these notices until it was delinquent and then were told it was our problem to work out with the DMV. Not a single person was willing to help us, they just kept passing us off into the maze of bureaucracy. All it would have taken is one person to listen and correct and follow through on a pretty simple processing problem, but they were nowhere to be found at the Oxnard CARMAX. Amazing. Selfishness, dishonesty, and greed win again. Don't be fooled by their slick marketing and fake friendliness, behind it is a bottom line at all costs. Never again. read more

Depending on the condition of your car, you'll get an online estimate that will then be verified on-site. In some situations, you will not get that initial appraisal. Still make an appointment and go in. The site itself is huge. Your navigation via phone should get you to customer service. I was greeted warmly and everyone was nice. There are two steps that in can keep you there 2-hours plus. First is the checkin and then verification of the state of your vehicle. After that they tell you the exact amount they will give you. I was lucky and got the same amount quoted online which was the KBB. My car and my situation were, however, not complicated. You may have certain demands or expectations that complicate matters. My process up until this point took about an hour. After my final appraisal, they work on the paperwork and cut the check. Again, it's only as complicated as your situation makes it. I was not complicated and had everything they needed. Done in an hour. From start to finish they make it work for you. Just make an appointment, know what you need and your chances of a smooth time are increased. My appointment was on a Thursday at 4:00. There was no line for me. Good luck! read more

No one is more surprised than I am giving a "used car dealer" five stars! Everything about my experience with the Carmax in Oxnard was five stars*. It took nearly two months of searching to find the exact vehicle, a Mazda Miata, and finally they had the one. Before walking in the door I knew almost to the penny how much the 'out the door' price as to be. Did the 24hr test drive and are, as I write this, about three weeks into the 30-day return period. We've had the vehicle to our mechanic and they agreed the car was in excellent condition. The process was relatively quick. There are some paperwork issues which should be streamlined a bit, but I'm impatient like that. There is no reason to for the staff to have to enter the same basic information over and over on different screens. That stuff should automatically populate... jus sayin' Still we were out the door in about an hour and a half. A word about the staff. Everyone we dealt with was great, especially our 'salesman' Andrew. Over hearing all the other conversations taking place throughout the 'sales floor' I think it's fair to say they all seemed to be productive, friendly and helpful. Shockingly I even purchased their aftermarket warranty. I know, I know... never ever... but this one is different in a few ways. First the coverage is good at Mazda dealership, and number of local 'approved shops' or a Carmax shop. Plus we can can it at anytime and received a prorated discount. *Actually had a bit of luck there. The vehicle we wanted was a Mazda Miata with the retractable hard top, as opposed to the soft top. One kept showing up as a soft top. I noticed there were no photos of the top up. All the pictures with the top down the deck lid looked like the RF. Since I had been looking at hundreds of these online I called the lot where the vehicle was and asked if they could send me a picture with the top up. "No problem, happy to." and sure enough it was the hard top version! I thanked them for the picture and they offered to deliver it free to the Oxnard lot which was closer to me. read more

Today is 6/16/2023 and I went to pick up my car. Again, extremely terrible experience with less than the bare minimum done. I escalated the damage to customer service requesting to speak to the general manager, as I felt the service manager was handling the situation appropriately or seriously. The service manager promptly called me, and we spoke in great length. I voiced my frustration and concerns, and although I was not confident that they would fix the damage appropriately, he gave me reassurance that him and the team would take care of the problem. In addition, he offered to reimburse me $200 towards a thorough detail of the car for the inconvenience. I picked up the car today, and the quality of the repair very poor. The paint does not quite match, there is overspray on my wheels, tires, headlights, rubber gaskets, plastics, there is lots of texture in the paint, and some parts were legitimately just sprayed over. In addition, they "fixed" one of my wheels. When i bought the car, one of the wheels had curb rash, which I could have lived with. They were not authorized to do this repair, and made it worse. The wheel "repair" paint does not match, is already peeling off, and they oversprayed the tire. Nothing was prepped correctly or covered. This paint repair will last 1 year tops. Not only will this quality paint job ruin the value of my car, but this work will come up in future reports, which will also have an effect. Again, I voiced my frustation to the service manager and the responses I got was "Well, thats why you're getting reimbursed $200 to detail the car." Okay, so I get to waste $200 and about 2 hours of my time to have the car detailed to fix more issues caused by you and then wait for you to mail me a check? When I pointed these out to the service advisor, his response was basically "Well, we only do very minor detail work." I plan on escalating this as far as it can go until this is resolved appropriately. For anyone reading this, avoid this dealer all together. Avoid the service department, just go to a real dealer or a mechanic/body shop that you actually trust. If you choose to take it here, take plenty of pictures of the car while its in their lot before you turn it in. Compare those pictures to the car when you actually pick it up. read more

2nd time purchasing a car from this specific dealership. My other review was positive feedback and great feed back on the salesmen. Same thing on this 2ndtime purchase. Kyle helped me purchase another vehicle and he was great!! Super helpful, super patient while I kept adjusting my budget and looking at different cars. With covid the protocol is a bit different so I commend him for being patient with me during this time. I was so very happy with the car I purchased and so glad I got to compare it to other vehicles simply by having Kyle be patient and so kind to let me test drive a few. Carmax offered me $7,200. I then took the car in and they lowered their number to $4,000 primarily because there was a check engine light on which they never asked about though I was unhappy with them mentioning my mileage also, though I actually had less miles on the vehicle than I submitted as I wanted to avoid that exact situation. It made me believe that this was a trick to get me in or incompetence. I fixed the problem for about $1,200, asked Carmax if there number is now $7,200 again or...? and never received a response. In contrast, Carvana indicated they would pay $6,295 but after looking at photos and discovering there was a check engine light, they said they wouldn't purchase unless that was taken care of. At least they have the courtesy of letting me know before I came in. Car tracker had a video call with me and paid me $8,000. They picked up the car without me having to go in, and they took care of the paperwork except for filing the the DMV release of liability, but they will help as needed for that. They asked what I wanted to sell it for, so I suggest figuring that out before submitting. read more

Decided to sell my jeep, while I was brousing the parking lot I wanted to check out a few Compact luxury cars, I'd been eyeballing the Genisis line of vehicles, and just my luck they had one. It doesn't take much to twist my arm so I bought it. It a smooth process, everything went a good as it could. I took the car home and we discovered one of the remotes was not working properly, as per CarMax recommendations, if there's an issue within the first 40 days, schedule an appointment with CarMax, and they will handle it. Only 1 problem, they don't return your calls, I called 8 times, even spoke with the manager, still no return call. My husband lost his job due to Covid so since April when everything closed down and people lost their jobs my husband being one we couldn't pay our monthly payments. CarMax was the only company who was not willing to work with us. We have never faulted on our loans until Covid. My husband has talked to them and they didn't care at all and finally they came to repossess the car. THE WORST SERVICE EVER!!!! (OXNARD CARMAX) My friend and I went to test drive specific cars today. The is 2 people there who wanted to buy cars today, I even had a $5000. cash downpayment with me and was ready to drive one home! The person was assigned to us COULD NOT CARE LESS!!! What an CRAP attitude, not helpful, not friendly, not knowledgeable nor interested in answering reasonable questions. He was on his phone talking to someone in the beginning of the process, I interrupted him to bring him back to task. I had to interrupt him again in the middle of the process when he went outside and was having a conversation with a coworker as I waited for him to bring the key for the other car. It was not about the test drive. He was simply putting his personal biz before professional biz!!! After test driving the first car, which was ok but the listing on window was WRONG. It stated the car interior was LEATHER, it was cloth. I asked about a price consideration for the error, he just said, no! It doesn't effect the price. Really? BS! it certainly does, fix the mistake!! The second car I drove I wanted to buy, it drove well but upon inspection there was a really bad repair job, very visible on drivers side. When I came back I asked if there was a car fax, response, no, we don't do that, WHY? I said I'd like to know about the accident status on the car, what's been repaired and current condition. he pulled up something on the computer that said it had been in a collision. That's it, no repair record or report of damage? Then his attitude really kicked in! The face, the demeanor was like, how dare I ask him anything. I asked him to come with me to show him the damages, on the walk to the car I had to ask him why he was being defensive? I literally had to remind him that I am allowed to ask questions and that I had concerns that there may be some issues from the the collision. He began to argue with me when I expressed my concern about possible frame damage until we got to the car and I showed him the rear panel popping out and the double sided tape sticking out in a botched repair attempt and the side panel chrome that was mis aligned (usually result of collision) That I'd like to have a look under the car to check plastic parts (as you could see little something down under) I wanted to know actual condition of struts, brakes, axel, frame, rust, etc... He saw the damage and said, "yeah, that's not good" He knew nothing about either car I drove and was not interested in putting ANY effort into finding out anything about them for me. He Just asked me 3 more times do I want to see something else? I said, we had to go now, but I'd like my questions answered. he said he'd get back to me. Yeah sure you will, and I've got a bridge in Brooklyn for sale cheap!!! Additionally he gave my friend looking to purchase a different (specific)car the wrong information about an option she saw listed on the website before we came to the dealer to test drive these specific cars. WOW! Seriously impressed. This is my second time getting a car appraised at Carmax. This first time took hours but it was relatively easy. The wait was just a big long. Today, I showed up and everything was different. They were 100000% prepared for covid and social distancing. I made appointment at noon, showed up and no more than 5 minutes after checking, I met Aaron who asked me a few simple questions and told me that Elvis was on the way. Elvis asked me to open all the doors, hood, and trunk. He expressed he didn't want to touch anything and that if he needed to, he would sanitize it after. AWESOME. He inspected my car VERY thoroughly and told me that he would bring in the info and a quote should come my way soon. I saw in my car, ordered lunch and before I even confirmed my lunch order, Aaron came to my car with an official offer!! This was SO fast, SO easy, SO great!!! I though went I took car back to get the shock fix bolt they would check their work. But on January on the shock was replace was making noise. So I went i decide to walk in on January 10 thinkin they will have priority to check. But they offered me an appointment until January 23 almost 2 weeks later. I decide to give another chance and I took the appointment . When I show up to the appointment on January 23, they told me they have to warranty the shock. Offering another appointment due to shock not in stock. Can't believe that they couldn't order from an auto part such as Oreilly, auto zone, Napa they all have that part in stock. I confirmed. Not even offer me a rental car. Only offer from CarMax was we gonna have to schedule for January 30. On my appointment day morning I get a call 30 mins before my time saying part wasn't there yet. I don't think this place puts any priority even after they messed up.. Hopefully corporate looks this and starts evaluate o train better all their employees. Purchased a truck from this location last weekend. We were really impressed to find out we could have a vehicle transferred to a different location, so had the truck moved from LAX. They immediately put the truck on reserve for us until we could get there to see it in person, up to 7 days. We were able to make an appointment and could even test drive the truck for 24 hours if we wanted. One thing I really appreciate about Carmax is that they don't negotiate on the price. They also aren't doing a 5% markup on sales price while dealing with low inventory during this pandemic. We were able to start filling out purchase paperwork before we returned to the dealer. The initial paperwork process felt easy and moved quickly. However, once that was done, we were told 4 people were ahead of us to sign the final paperwork and to wait until we were called. My husband ended up asking about how long that would be and we were told an hour. That hour turned into an hour and a half. Having already finalized the deal, it didn't make any sense to need to wait an hour and a half to sign more paperwork. They did wash the truck we bought and filled the gas tank before we left. Antjie helped us and she was very kind throughout the process. Cross helped do the final paperwork and was also very nice to explain the process, as well as dealing with us feeling very impatient having had to wait as long as we did. Once we bought the extended warranty, they failed to fix the problems the Car had, and the warranty ran out. Expensive warranty, expensive repair made me a VERY unhappy customer. Repeatedly went in to diagnose engine light, and they never fixed it. If you ever get the extended warranty, don't let it expire without them fixing all the issues. I spoke with a very young appraiser with a chip on his shoulder because per his words he reviewed over 10,000 cars ytd. It was the end of a long day but everyone had attitude and I was even told they were closing in 30 minutes. No one wanted to be there working. They were all watching the clock. Back I'm June we bought a Mercedes Benz from CarMax Oxnard, big mistake. When we by September we didn't get our plates for our new car we went back to CarMax to inquire about it. Apparently they sent the title (that was paid in full) to someone else. Not only did they sell us a car with only 1 key but they didn't even have a title on the car as advertised. To make it even worse they never even informed us, we went to them to inquire about our license plates. They did refund our money, since we didn't even own they car they "sold" us that was the ONLY option. Since we were nearly 350 miles from home we looked at cars on the lot. My husband wanted another Mercedes but they didn't have any newer ones on the lot but the salesman did say we could buy the BMW (that we kind of liked) and if in the next 30 days if we didn't like it we could return it we requested a different Mercedes be brought in and we waited. When we returned the BMW and tried to buy the Mercedes they refused to do the cosmetic repairs they told us would be done. After returning the BMW the check they gave us as a refund bounced thank goodness our account did not get overdrawn. I wanna start by saying I live 1 hour away from this carmax. I only came to this carmax because they had a specific car I wanted. My problem with this location is that I called customer care 1 hour before I started driving over to carmax Oxnard. I let them know I would arrive at 6:30pm and if they would still help me out with a 24 hour test drive. The reason I called is because I would've arrived 30 minutes before closing on a Sunday and it was an hour drive for me. The customer service representative put me on hold and spoke to a representative at the Oxnard location and they confirmed that there would be no problem. I drive over to the location and I wait at the front desk. Leslie a sales manager there walks up to me and I explain why I'm there. She then tells me she has nobody available to help me out. I look around and there's 4 employees sitting around at their desks (not including the vehicle appraisal specialist). I tell her I just want to do a 24 hour test drive the paper takes no longer than 10-15 to fill out can you help me ? Leslie tells me she can't help me she has to do the closing procedures (it's 6:35pm at this point). She didn't know this but I used to work at carmax 3 years ago and my sales managers would've never told a customer no like that. The managers get an hour after the store closes to do their closing procedures. The managers I've worked with would've done it themselves even if they " didn't have an employee available ". I told her I drove an hour to get here, I called customer care and they told me they spoke to someone here. She said sometimes customer care says things they can't do in store. She offered to transfer the car to a closer carmax to me. She can transfer the car but she can't set me up for a 24 hour test drive.. I was just disappointed and amazed how lazy this Leslie character was. I told her I'd just look at the car then so I walked out to the lot, found the car myself and I actually liked it. After looking at the car I came back into the carmax sales floor and I see the same 4 employees lounging around and Leslie sitting down with 2 other employees just chatting. I never knew chatting around was part of carmax's pre-closing procedure. After walking past her doing her "closing procedure", I stood at the front desk to take her up on her very helpful offer to transfer the car for me because god knows I'm never doing business with Carmax Oxnard. Leslie didn't stand up to help me even though she watched me walk up into the front desk. Instead the appraisal specialist walked up to me and gave me a card to call customer care and get it transferred. I appreciate him even coming up to help us the best he could. As for the sales manager Leslie, she should definitely be promoted to customer. I never met such a lazy carmax manager. Maybe carmax should employ someone who isn't a fossil to be a sales manager. She's ready to retire it seems like she doesn't want to work anymore. I always thought carmax prioritized customer experience till I met Leslie. Way to accommodate a customer Leslie, you'll always have another customer to help right ? I hope someone reads this and has a closing procedure chat with her about this. read more

It took Oxnard 2 weeks to upload my car buying information in the CarMax system (they swore it usually 1 week) then Brian added a date that was 2 months to my actual buying date and they denied the free covered service. I called back and Brian changes it to the correct date, with no empathy or remorse, he actually giggled when I complained. When I got the alignment fixed the brakes needed to be shaved too!!!!! They don't take care of their cars at this location at all ! 2 months later I get a call my registration can't be registered with the DMV because my car doesn't have a smog check. I'm so pissed I had to take time out my busy schedule (mother of 2 boys; 3&6, that works FULL TIME) and get a smog check. They swore this never happens and blah blah. Well my tags are expired but they promised to reimburse me. Now look at this. 3 months after I bought the car I take it to jiffy lube for a standard oil change. THEY PULL THIS OUT MY CAR!!! They said this has to be 1 year old. It's damaged and broken. This CarMax is a joke. They didn't smog my car and I don't believe they changed any filters in the car or truly kept up with the service on the car. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND OR BUY ANOTHER CAR FROM THIS LOCATION. I don't smoke and hardly use the ac. This isn't wear and tear for 3 months of use. Don't waste your time they don't value your dollar !!!!!! read more

I had a great experience at carmax. I love that it was more or less hassle free. I love that there is no price haggling. The price set for the used cars were reasonable IMO. I found a good number of cars I was looking for (mini van) and they were in good condition with low mileages. They were upfront about the car requiring a recall and I even traded in my SUV for such a reasonable price.
